A great demo of a great sounding guitar. You never fail to deliver Lucas, I always feel inspired to keep putting in the hours when I hear you. Amongst many others, I’m currently enjoying my Eastman 308 CE Ltd, however an OM is definitely on the cards.

Never thought of Eastman for their acoustic guitars but during your intro I thought - "what a versatile guitar" -- then you said it. See - I'm learning! It seems to keep up with you in every style of music, and this is their entry level solid wood? - wow! Not to mention the presence it has, assuming the tone will get even better with age. Now the mic you are using also seems to be excellent as it captures your voice and the guitar, and the room for that matter very very well, sounds so natural even online. Great review!
I’m glad the versatility came across! That’s funny this is not the first time someone mentioned the sound of this video to me. I tried a different microphone. Low and behold it’s meant for snare drum, but I find it has a very full frequency range. It’s called an audix I5. Figured I’d change it up from the usual SM 58. Maybe I’ll have to stick with it. It has more game so I can have it a little further away from me than The one I usually use. This guitar is haunting me now. Had to give it to its owner on Friday, but man it’s something special!!
Agree totally re Eastmans are great value and sensational guitars. I bought an E10SSV a few months ago. I play it daily, its so smooth and easy in your hands and the sound is incredible.

You play with so much enthousiasm that it makes me want to take my guitar to play like you do (sort of). I hesitate between this one and the AC 222 from Eastman. Or maybe the E3-OM, which I enjoy quite a bit too. Eastman guitars have a lot of dynamics. It's dynamite! They shine.
Your comments on the playing are very kind. I truly appreciate that! It’s tough to choose between this and those other options as it’s also subjective. I love this particular E one om and I also love the AC 222CE for different reasons. I Wood really make your choice based on which one feels best in your hands, and sounds best to your ear as you try them.
I have one of these guitars ie the e1OM and absolutely love it - got it in the classic finish ie a dark brown sunburst / worn top look and prefer this look to the plain top. When I bought it (from Richards Guitars in Stratford upon Avon England) I tried a few other Eastman OM’s in the store (all more expensive I might add) but kept going back to this one which is the cheapest in their OM range and to my my mind the best of the bunch). The tone is awesome and I absolutely love it !!!! Highly recommended

Bought one.....i’m impressed, need to lower the bridge slightly. Other than that all my 500 dollar dreams came true. Never had a better sounding acoustic. Love the huge sustain and the piano-like tonal quality. Finally played it in the living room, wow man this baby fills in the room beautifully. Thank you for your insights.

This particular guitar had a beautiful piano like quality, sustain and just a wonderful tone overall. I feel like it would sound even better with slightly worn in strings, but my student who purchased it is over the moon excited about it, and I can’t blame him! If I didn’t find my own E6OM around the same time that I completely adore, then I would’ve taken this one home for good. I’m happy it’s going to a good player, and that it’s getting lots of use though. I hope you enjoy your new Eastman for years to come, and best of luck adjusting the action
That's a ripper guitar Lucas, just bought an Eastman E6SS-TC myself, couldn't be happier, it sounds so rich and has a huge Mahogany punch, looks like a J35 and sounds like a D18, best if both worlds 👍 great playing too thanks.
Eastman should hire you as a sales consultant. I played one at a local shop this week and also the cedar top (E2OM). The cedar was nice but I guess I’m a spuce guy at the end of the day (used to also have a mahogany top; nice warm and mellow tone, but too compressed for my style). I know what my next guitar will be Lucas!
Haha you aren’t the first person who has said that. L O L. I don’t have any affiliation with the brand other than the fact that I believe in what they do. For quite a while, the guitars I reach for are either my Eastmans or some handmade guitars I have from relatively local builders who have supported me. The quality of the Eastman stuff for what you pay is just fantastic. Glad to hear you tried one of these guitars and liked it!
I'm learning to play on an E1OM. I wanted an affordable, but still high quality guitar that I could grow with it really delivers. Fun to play, beautiful to hear (at least when someone competent is playing lol), and easy on the eyes too.

Just found your channel as I am researching Eastman guitars as I'd like to get one in thefuture. Their archtops are well regarded too. I only wish that as a fully sighted guitarist that I might play half as well as somebody like yourself. I have an Eastman AC422 CE (like the Breedlove concert size with cutaway) and an E20 OM, both rosewood/sitka - the first is a B stock and the second I got used but they both look and play good as new. You have already sung their praises in your video (you are a great player) so all I can do is say I couldn't agree more, Eastman makes guitars that are right up there with the very best. I'll be adding the E1OM to my collection soon. Thanks for the great video.

@@LucasHaneman Thanks for writing back. The 422 and the E20 are the best guitars I have in terms of producing a soothing loveliness that I attribute to the high quality of the woods (I learned the hard way on one purchase, not an Eastman, that not all rosewood is created equal), and the high level of workmanship. I can't honestly say, of these two Eastman's, that one is better sounding than the other, it's just that the 422 being larger has a more cavernous sound with deeper bass. They are both a joy to play. I love mahogany bodies too, I have two 000 versions, a Recording King and an old Harmony that I had X braced. But at the end of the day, its practice and playing that require our attention the most, isn't it. I certainly will check out your other videos as time permits, it's always nice to make the acquaintance of another true believer. By the way, the price of the E1 has come down since you made your video. Regards, Phil L.
You are right Philip. Not all woods are created equal and not all wood workers are created equal either. To me most of the Eastmans I have played have been a big step up from most factory made guitars in Sound as well as lumber quality. I agree with you, that at the end of the day how much we practice, and how we play is more important than any of this stuff of course. No substitute for putting the hours in, and after we’ve done that, we are going to sound like our self on any guitar we play. That being said, it’s nice to hear about your mahogany guitars as well. That harmony sounds like something special! My E6 has been a bit of a revelation for me. Typically I am a rosewood player, but man, there is something about the dry direct woody character of that guitar, coupled with its size, that makes it amazing for tracking/recording. To me it sounds like old records, and that’s some thing I didn’t have in my arsenal of tools before. By the way, I made a slight mistake on the model of my father’s guitar. It’s not the same as yours. It is an AC222CE-OV. I would call it the AC equivalent of this E1. Satin finish and all. Great sounding instrument too. Dude you just did one of the best demos I’ve ever seen. I just bought one of these. I did not know that Eastman made a 000-18 short scale guitar. Like you I love these guitars. Bought a E20-00 a few months ago that had a bad neck set up but have returned and got another that was perfect. I was and still am a Martin lover but these guitars are exceptional. I do not know of another guitar maker in any other country that can compare in this price range. Thanks again for one of the best demos I’ve ever heard. Love your playing. Glenn

I did not know that Eastman made acoustics! That is a VERY nice guitar. I'll order one to see what this is all about. Just ordered an Orangewood on Amazon last week to see what the hype about those were! The tone of the Eastman is a bit bright for my taste, but it sounds VERY good, and at the price it's at now, I think almost unbeatable.
Man that’s awesome that you have ordered an orangewood. I have heard great things about those guitars but I have not had a chance to get my hands on one yet. As for the Eastman, it’s amazing. I have truly not ever tried anything better at this price point, and to me it sounds good as many hand made guitars costing four times the price. I noticed the brightness now to on the playback, which is interesting because in the room it didn’t sound that bright.
Maybe it’s the brand new phosphor bronze strings coupled with the way it was picked up by the microphone, but it was very warm in person. Definitely check one out if you can :-) thanks as always for checking out the video Stanley!
I don't have any experience with Eastman guitars....they look and sound great! But I do have an Eastman 305 mandolin and have to say it is a beauty.....especially for an entry level instrument.....this sounds better than my 000-18...
Thank you for your comment here as well. I also have an Eastman mandolin and love it. My student who purchased this guitar is over the moon excited about it, and every time we have a lesson he starts by telling me he can’t put it down. The idea behind this channel is trying to expose people to the idea of making instrument choices with their ears rather than their eyes. Of course if a guitar looks great it’s going to make you want to pick it up more, but the idea has to do mostly with the brand name on the head stock. I have been very fortunate over the past number of small builders whose Instruments I would put up against anything out there, even though most people don’t know about them. Even though Eastman is a larger company, I put their craftsmanship up on that level, and at a very affordable price point as an added bonus. Stay tuned to episode 100 as I will be featuring a guitar that is even closer to a 00018 that I am very fortunate to now call my own :-) by the way, I love Martin guitars as well and would love to own a vintage example someday when the funds permit. One of the Best, if not the best acoustic guitars I’ve ever laid my hands on was a very played in 1953 d28 at Carter vintage guitars in Nashville. Wish I had of had the funds to pick it up.

It’s funny, just in the last little while I have come to realize that I think I prefer non-bound fingerboards in general as well, mainly for feel reasons. That being said I probably have the same number of instruments with bound and unbound fingerboards, and I do not dislike the ones with bound fingerboards at all. I’ve just come to enjoy the fact that with a non-bound fingerboard, the more you play it, the more the edges of the neck round over and become comfortable over the years. This doesn’t happen as much with binding for whatever reason. Glad you are getting enjoyment out of guitars and playing even though you aren’t playing out these days. Hey, you’re not the only one not playing out these days. All of us musicians have been thrown for a bit of a loop this past year. That being said we have all been learning how to adapt, and putting a lot more effort and focus into this channel has been a big part of that for me. That is definitely one positive thing I will take away from and remember when looking back at this time and my own personal experience. It’s been nice to upload more regularly and see this thing grow slowly but surely. Keep on playing and enjoy the content!
Hey, loved the video! Question: How would you compare this to the Yamaha Red Label made in China concert size? Nobody around here has the Eastmans for me to try, but the Yamahas sound amazing. Opinion???
I tried one of the Yamaha red labels about two weeks ago so it’s fresh in my mind. Both are exceptional instruments honestly. If you prefer a fat neck, then the Eastman is great. If you prefer a more modern feeling neck, the Yamaha is wonderful. I’d also say that goes for the sound. The Eastman sounds a little bit bigger and Older if that makes any sense where the Yamaha sounds a little more three dimensional and modern. Can’t go wrong with either. If you have the Yamaha local to you and really like it, then I’d say go for it.
Actually I have not tried the red lable. They seem to have everything but. We play bluegrass, country and folk. Looking for a little more bottom end like my Martin and guild. In your opinion, which has the better bass or bottom end sound of the two. Don’t want dread. I understand the smaller body won’t have the same bass as dread.” But, of the two which would lend itself more to bluegrass? From the vids it sounds like the Eastman is bassier.
@@tonydovell6131 if you can try some Eastmans, I believe Eastman will be the answer for more bass. I have an E6om (see the videos on my channel), and that particular Guitar has amazing amounts of low end and big Sound for its size. I don’t play in Bluegrass situations, but out of all my guitars, I’ve felt like that’s the one that would hold up and perform grade in that kind of a setting. Maybe it’s the mahogany and spruce combo, but it’s loud loud loud. I think a really good E1om would do something similar. Regarding the Eastmans try as many as you can, and pick the one you like the most. With the fact that they are handmade, there are vast differences from Guitar to Guitar so if you have a Music Store near you where you can give them a go definitely do that.

If you want to check out that E6om episode 100 was shot right after I received it, episode 155 about prime tone, guitar pics features it again after quite a bit of playing. It’s in the second half of that episode doing a little bit of a bluegrass type thing, then I did another episode, much more recently comparing the E1 vs E6OMs’ where I talk about and try to demonstrate the differences in mahogany and sapele. Unfortunately it wasn’t this particular E1, as this one is absolutely spectacular, but it was another that belongs to another student of mine. Both of the E1s’ are owned by students of mine who play them a lot.

Yes, I can certainly testify that an OM is a very useful tool for anyone who loves acoustic guitar. To me it’s the perfect middle ground. I love dreadnaughts, I love parlours, but for some thing that has the focus of a smaller body guitar with all the horsepower one would usually need, these Eastman OMs’ definitely deliver. In fact, I enjoyed reviewing this one so much that I now have an E6OM in my life that I am going to do a full review of on episode 100, in about a week and A half. Hey. I will up load episode 98 this week, so episode 100 will come out January 26. Have you seen the episode where I pitted this guitar up against a dreadnaught? That was episode 93. I would say that demonstration certainly speaks to the versatility of these guitars. From what I know Eastman makes their om Instruments with a slightly larger lower bout and a tiny bit more depth than a standard orchestra model. I wonder if anyone can speak to the particulars of this as I have not had the chance to do a direct comparison between this and say a 00018, but I’ve got to say with both this guitar and the E6 that I now own I am extremely impressed with the volume and projection/overall big sound for guitar with this body style :-) I hope this helps at least a little bit

I’d say it depends on the particular guitar honestly. I have played some E1s’ that were bright and a little thin sounding, where as I’ve played some others that are absolute cannons. I think a lot of it depends on the thickness and stiffness of the top as Eastman is making these by hand, but the caveat is that they spend a lot more time hand voicing the upper end models. If you have the luxury of trying a few of them, most likely, you will find a really good one that punches well above its price point. This one is very very special. It belongs to a student of mine and it only sounds better now. I have another student with one purchased more recently that doesn’t quite have the depth ortone of this example, but another friend owns one that sounds absolutely huge, just different than this one. Ideally a try before you buy situation.

hello. I have money for an e200m but I like the ovangkol wood on the e30m. My question is if the differences between models is only in wood and finish or also in playability and comfort? Does an e1om or e30m play just as well as an e200m or e80m or e60m?
In short yes. All of the Eastman guitars, be there entry models or higher end feel very similar. The biggest difference is gloss finish on higher end guitars, and satin on the lower end range. Go with the one that you like the Timbers of the most, and if you can try before you buy only because every acoustic guitar is so different, and Eastmans have hand shaped necks, so the feel from one guitar to the next can be different for sure.. they all feel great, and I’ve played many entry level guitars with impeccable fret work from Eastman two, so have no fear in that regard.
@@986dryy it’s a great back inside option as it leans a little bit more towards the Rosewood sound, but still has that nice strong fundamental like mahogany does. I did a review on an Eastman ac222ce-OV that sounds great and really captures the vibe of that lumber. Yes, the different body shapes certainly each have a sound all their own, but the most important thing is comfort. If you’re comfortable on a guitar it will allow you to play the things you want to play. I think I can speak for many people when I say that even though the Eastman oms’ are not the largest guitars in the world they certainly have a big big sound that allows you to play anything you want. I gig with one quite often and don’t feel that it lacks anything at all. Huge sound actually! The grand auditorium feels and sounds a little bit bigger than that, then of course the dreadnaught is classic for a good reason to. Give them all a try and take the one home that you like the most. hello, in the end I tried several guitars, eastman, martin, gibson... and well I bought a sigma somr45 that sounds wonderful, it's spectacular, it has the perfect neck cut, a top with the edge every millimeter and in mirror and a very tight rosewood , never touch anything as good. I would like to send you a video of it so you can hear how good it sounds and how warm it is. you have mail? I tried several sigmas and they seemed to me to be instruments of a medium low range, and with an inadequate neck in the cut of the wood. but nevertheless this somr 45 was spectacular.

They are among the best sounding guitars that I've played. HOWEVER: I tried 2 E-10OMs a couple of years ago. Beautiful, stunning guitars, that were little cannons. The problem was, my fingers hated the frets. Trying to do runs was like falling down stairs for my left hand. You get it at Steve's, Long & McQuade, or Lauzon?
Amazing guitars for sure. I have not felt the fret issue you speak of, although I know they have changed their fret wire material in the past couple years and are now using a Jescar medium sized variety which my hands are OK with personally. I did not buy this guitar, however one of my students did, and it wasn’t at any of the big chains. There’s a store in town called Sounds good Music on Rochester Street. I don’t know if you are from Ottawa? If you are you should definitely go check it out. He stocks a lot of very interesting guitars. If you go talk to Brett and tell him Lucas sent you, it’s an amazing little place with a lot of gems!
Hey Lucas, just dropped by to let you know I have my new E1-OM. Took two tries, and both guitars were not according to spec. The first one was cedar, and while it was ok, it isn't what I wanted. It got returned. The second one, the keeper, was supposed to have an ebony fretboard and bridge,but mine are Rosewood. I told the store where I got it from, they offered a return or a 50€ discount. I took the 50€. So, with discount, I paid 599€ with setup. If these are going for around $700 CAD, that would make them really attractive, and an ideal choice for beginners. I learned on a cheap Aria 12 string starting in 1974. I wish I'd had a guitar like this! Take care.
I’m considering there AC622ce but I’m not sure since I can’t find one near me to play. It’s Maple back and sides and I’m not sure if it’ll be too bright or not for my liking
Never played the ac622, but my father has been loving his ac222 that I reviewed on this channel as well. Can’t speak for the maple back and sides on the other guitar, but the ac222ce is a very big, rich and three-dimensional sounding guitar, partially due to its body size. I’m sure the body is big enough that with the maple back and sides it could still be a warm sounding guitar, but it’s hard for me to say not having tried it specifically. If I get the chance to though I will check one out and review it on the channel next time I go to the music shop that carries Eastmans around me. I will have to see if they have one. I am looking for slightly smaller, literally smaller, guitars and scales. I have small fingers though do play classical. Does this feel smaller in length, i.e. slightly comfier fret spacing or is there no discernible difference to conventional scales. I am thinking about comfy length, for me, for light strumming of chords. I notice the Furch blue equivalent is 25.5 inches or so. Am metric so confuses me! Anyhow, do you notice a difference between length of Eastman OM and Furch OM. I Know tension will differ but it is the fret spacing/overall length that intrigues me. Thank you so much.
Hello. Thank you for your interesting comment. yes I do feel a difference between this 24.9 inch scale length and the standard that I am used to which is 25.5. I wouldn’t call it a dramatic difference, but I do feel it a little when I go back and forth. If you’re looking for something substantially smaller and lower tension you might want to consider a parlour guitar or travel guitar. I believe both companies offer some good options in this regard. I say this as I recently acquired in Eastman E6OM that I ended up getting as I loved this one so much. I actually used it on a show I played live from my channel on Friday evening if you want to check it out, and will be doing a review of it next week on the channel. Anyhow, I say all of this as I am a heavy hitter, and find that I could get the Eastman om to behave much like my dreadnaught, where as I tend to pick up my parlour guitar, made by a local builder, when I want an instrument that is super compact, really easy to play and well suited towards fingerpicking, very light strumming and finger style jazz playing. I actually reviewed the Eastman ACTG2E travel guitar on my channel about a year ago if you’re interested in checking one out. Very impressed with that little guitar. I hope this helps!

Super review as always. only problem here is; you can make even the most Dudgy guitar sounding great :-) I love Eastman, and even had the travel guitar (also solid) , which impressed with it’s filling and well rounded sound out of it’s tiny body. You are correct it is short scale 24.9 inches, like most 000 styles. I also did a review on the E6OM which is very similar but with mahogany back and sides and a glossier finish. Hope you are able to find one! When you do, let me know what you think.
Thanks for your comment. It’s hard for me to know without trying your Taylor, but I looked up the guitar and it states a spruce top, but does not say whether the top is solid or not. I do know that this Eastman has a solid top, and they do make a dreadnaught version like your tailor as well, which I really like. Little details on this guitar would be better at least on paper like Ebony bridge pins, and I do find that with the Eastmans being hand tooled, you get a guitar that is more voiced acoustically, so a very resonant guitar for the price. Eastman makes guitars in much smaller quantities than Taylor, so I personally find that there is more attention to detail for that reason. That being said I have played some fantastic Taylor guitars and if you like your guitar acoustically and find it inspiring this is really what counts. No need to exchange if you enjoy what you already have. Hope this helps and hope you have a great day
Oh yeah, and I forgot, this Eastman is all solid wood construction. I find that this adds to the volume and especially low end contents/overtones of the guitar. I almost forgot about that as the equivalent Eastman is actually the PCH model with laminate back and sides. For the price with these, you get a lot of Guitar for the money
this is a little off subject but have you ever tried elixir acoustic strings? if so how do you like them? i pretty much have to use them because i kill other strings in a day or two with my sweat lol great playing :)
Absolutely. I use them often on my main gigging acoustic guitars. aside from the high price I love them. Corrosion/sweat resistant for sure and if I record with an acoustic a lot I tend to put them on as they last quite awhile. I don’t care for them on electric personally, but that’s just me. Hi Lucas, really nice vid and guitar. I'm between this second-hand for 850 euros here or a Furch 2018 Limited Edition OM-LX second-hand for 2,000 euros. Any ideas on which to go for? The Furch is one of only 75 ever built, it's really amazing but so is this Eastman, and a darn sight cheaper

I can’t find anything on that particular guitar on Google, but I have demoed an om31 on the channel, and wow, what a guitar! I suppose I would ask you what your intentions are when it comes to playing this new guitar. are you a gigger, or someone who plays at home more? Not that this is a deciding factor, but the Eastman Instruments are such great amount of guitar that one gets for the money that I would say you could get a ton of enjoyment out of one of these guitars if you’re playing at home most often. Even if you are gigging they are great guitars, as I got a new Eastman E6OM for Christmas, and it is reliable in every way. If money is not an issue I have been thoroughly impressed with those Furch guitars, and by all means go ahead and check out my demo of the om31 if interested. The carbon fibre reinforcements in the neck and other innovative features really make those guitars something special. Either way I would say you will have a great guitar though if you can let me know more of the specs on that om60 and something about your playing style I can try to help A little more. Either would be great and don’t be fooled by the lower price on the Eastman stuff, it is top class
No this one does not have any neck dive, nor does my E6OM that I purchased for myself after doing this review. Sometimes that’s just a thing though as I have other guitars that do have neck dive. Personally I find that a nice suede or leather strap can mitigate the issue very nicely. Does the store you purchased it from have an exchange policy? If it’s a dealbreaker for you then I’m sure you could exchange it for a different variant as most of them don’t have that issue from my experience. I’m glad to hear you have enjoyed the guitar otherwise. I’m extremely impressed with them
I just demo'd one of these today in a local guitar shop. absolutely incredible tone. I could not believe this was on offer for $589 as it sounded about 5 - 10 times that.
It’s crazy a? It’s something about that wood combination, the body shape and the satin finish I think that just makes these guitars wide awake right away. I understand that for sure. With all honesty sometimes finding the right teacher can make the biggest difference in the world. I’ve had a lot of people come to me with various frustrations, be it technique, timing, and knowledge of the fretboard etc. etc., and I love helping people figure out how to get over there hurdles. Have you tried lessons with a couple of different teachers? In either case I’m happy to hear that you are plugging along and getting enjoyment out of it as this is the most important thing at the end of the day. Enjoy the little things in your progress, as often as a guitar player as we can get very frustrated, thinking that things will come to us more quickly than they do. Remember to practice slowly and try hard to not Drive yourself crazy. As musicians we have to constantly remind ourselves to ignore those negative voices in the back of our heads :-)
@@LucasHaneman thanks Lucas...you are a great motivator....Im switching instruments and tunings to try to get out of a rut.....my biggest issue is I'm 62 and didn't find out until I was in my 50s that I had really bad ADD....I also have heart issues and can't take meds for the ADD....also...lol....Ive had other health issues that messed up my memory so lyrics are pretty much out of the question.....Im just switching from open D....open G and then mandolin.....just instrumental things.....I just got a Rob Mackillop book "Scottish guitar" so I'm starting to dig into that...thanks for your inspiring correspondence....!

Yes exactly. The other guitar was the E1D. It was fantastic as well. Very full frequency response and nice and loud. I think it’s definitely a winner for the amount you spend, just like this one. I was extremely impressed by both instruments and the owner of the E1D couldn’t be happier with his new guitar either. Hope this helps and thank you so much for watching! I’m trying to recall if I saw you comment on it, but I actually just released the dreadnaught E1D compared to E2D comparison video last week. Never thought of Eastman for their acoustic guitars but during your intro I thought - "what a versatile guitar" -- then you said it. See - I'm learning! It seems to keep up with you in every style of music, and this is their entry level solid wood? - wow! Not to mention the presence it has, assuming the tone will get even better with age. Now the mic you are using also seems to be excellent as it captures your voice and the guitar, and the room for that matter very very well, sounds so natural even online. Great review!
I’m glad the versatility came across! That’s funny this is not the first time someone mentioned the sound of this video to me. I tried a different microphone. Low and behold it’s meant for snare drum, but I find it has a very full frequency range. It’s called an audix I5. Figured I’d change it up from the usual SM 58. Maybe I’ll have to stick with it. It has more game so I can have it a little further away from me than The one I usually use. This guitar is haunting me now. Had to give it to its owner on Friday, but man it’s something special!!

You play with so much enthousiasm that it makes me want to take my guitar to play like you do (sort of). I hesitate between this one and the AC 222 from Eastman. Or maybe the E3-OM, which I enjoy quite a bit too. Eastman guitars have a lot of dynamics. It's dynamite! They shine.
Your comments on the playing are very kind. I truly appreciate that! It’s tough to choose between this and those other options as it’s also subjective. I love this particular E one om and I also love the AC 222CE for different reasons. I Wood really make your choice based on which one feels best in your hands, and sounds best to your ear as you try them.
I have one of these guitars ie the e1OM and absolutely love it - got it in the classic finish ie a dark brown sunburst / worn top look and prefer this look to the plain top. When I bought it (from Richards Guitars in Stratford upon Avon England) I tried a few other Eastman OM’s in the store (all more expensive I might add) but kept going back to this one which is the cheapest in their OM range and to my my mind the best of the bunch). The tone is awesome and I absolutely love it !!!! Highly recommended

Bought one.....i’m impressed, need to lower the bridge slightly. Other than that all my 500 dollar dreams came true. Never had a better sounding acoustic. This particular guitar had a beautiful piano like quality, sustain and just a wonderful tone overall. I feel like it would sound even better with slightly worn in strings, but my student who purchased it is over the moon excited about it, and I can’t blame him! If I didn’t find my own E6OM around the same time that I completely adore, then I would’ve taken this one home for good. I’m happy it’s going to a good player, and that it’s getting lots of use though. I hope you enjoy your new Eastman for years to come, and best of luck adjusting the action
That's a ripper guitar Lucas, just bought an Eastman E6SS-TC myself, couldn't be happier, it sounds so rich and has a huge Mahogany punch, looks like a J35 and sounds like a D18, best if both worlds 👍 great playing too thanks.
Eastman should hire you as a sales consultant. I played one at a local shop this week and also the cedar top (E2OM). The cedar was nice but I guess I’m a spuce guy at the end of the day (used to also have a mahogany top; nice warm and mellow tone, but too compressed for my style). I know what my next guitar will be Lucas!

For quite a while, the guitars I reach for are either my Eastmans or some handmade guitars I have from relatively local builders who have supported me. I'm learning to play on an E1OM. I wanted an affordable, but still high quality guitar that I could grow with it really delivers. Fun to play, beautiful to hear (at least when someone competent is playing lol), and easy on the eyes too.

I have an Eastman AC422 CE (like the Breedlove concert size with cutaway) and an E20 OM, both rosewood/sitka - the first is a B stock and the second I got used but they both look and play good as new. You have already sung their praises in your video (you are a great player) so all I can do is say I couldn't agree more, Eastman makes guitars that are right up there with the very best. I'll be adding the E1OM to my collection soon. Thanks for the great video.

The 422 and the E20 are the best guitars I have in terms of producing a soothing loveliness that I attribute to the high quality of the woods (I learned the hard way on one purchase, not an Eastman, that not all rosewood is created equal), and the high level of workmanship. I can't honestly say, of these two Eastman's, that one is better sounding than the other, it's just that the 422 being larger has a more cavernous sound with deeper bass. They are both a joy to play. I love mahogany bodies too, I have two 000 versions, a Recording King and an old Harmony that I had X braced. But at the end of the day, its practice and playing that require our attention the most, isn't it. I certainly will check out your other videos as time permits, it's always nice to make the acquaintance of another true believer. By the way, the price of the E1 has come down since you made your video.

You are right Philip. Not all woods are created equal and not all wood workers are created equal either. To me most of the Eastmans I have played have been a big step up from most factory made guitars in Sound as well as lumber quality. I agree with you, that at the end of the day how much we practice, and how we play is more important than any of this stuff of course. No substitute for putting the hours in, and after we’ve done that, we are going to sound like our self on any guitar we play. That being said, it’s nice to hear about your mahogany guitars as well. That harmony sounds like something special! My E6 has been a bit of a revelation for me. Typically I am a rosewood player, but man, there is something about the dry direct woody character of that guitar, coupled with its size, that makes it amazing for tracking/recording. To me it sounds like old records, and that’s some thing I didn’t have in my arsenal of tools before. By the way, I made a slight mistake on the model of my father’s guitar. It’s not the same as yours. It is an AC222CE-OV. I would call it the AC equivalent of this E1. Satin finish and all. Great sounding instrument too. Dude you just did one of the best demos I’ve ever seen. I just bought one of these. I did not know that Eastman made a 000-18 short scale guitar. Like you I love these guitars. Bought a E20-00 a few months ago that had a bad neck set up but have returned and got another that was perfect. I was and still am a Martin lover but these guitars are exceptional. I do not know of another guitar maker in any other country that can compare in this price range. Thanks again for one of the best demos I’ve ever heard. Love your playing. Glenn

I did not know that Eastman made acoustics! That is a VERY nice guitar. I'll order one to see what this is all about. Just ordered an Orangewood on Amazon last week to see what the hype about those were!
The tone of the Eastman is a bit bright for my taste, but it sounds VERY good, and at the price it's at now, I think almost unbeatable.
Man that’s awesome that you have ordered an orangewood. I have heard great things about those guitars but I have not had a chance to get my hands on one yet. As for the Eastman, it’s amazing. I have truly not ever tried anything better at this price point, and to me it sounds good as many hand made guitars costing four times the price. I noticed the brightness now to on the playback, which is interesting because in the room it didn’t sound that bright.
Maybe it’s the brand new phosphor bronze strings coupled with the way it was picked up by the microphone, but it was very warm in person. Definitely check one out if you can :-) thanks as always for checking out the video Stanley!

I don't have any experience with Eastman guitars....they look and sound great! But I do have an Eastman 305 mandolin and have to say it is a beauty.....especially for an entry level instrument.....this sounds better than my 000-18...
Thank you for your comment here as well. I also have an Eastman mandolin and love it. My student who purchased this guitar is over the moon excited about it, and every time we have a lesson he starts by telling me he can’t put it down. The idea behind this channel is trying to expose people to the idea of making instrument choices with their ears rather than their eyes. Of course if a guitar looks great it’s going to make you want to pick it up more, but the idea has to do mostly with the brand name on the head stock. I have been very fortunate over the past number of small builders whose Instruments I would put up against anything out there, even though most people don’t know about them. Even though Eastman is a larger company, I put their craftsmanship up on that level, and at a very affordable price point as an added bonus. Stay tuned to episode 100 as I will be featuring a guitar that is even closer to a 00018 that I am very fortunate to now call my own :-) by the way, I love Martin guitars as well and would love to own a vintage example someday when the funds permit. One of the Best, if not the best acoustic guitars I’ve ever laid my hands on was a very played in 1953 d28 at Carter vintage guitars in Nashville. Wish I had of had the funds to pick it up.

It’s funny, just in the last little while I have come to realize that I think I prefer non-bound fingerboards in general as well, mainly for feel reasons. That being said I probably have the same number of instruments with bound and unbound fingerboards, and I do not dislike the ones with bound fingerboards at all. I’ve just come to enjoy the fact that with a non-bound fingerboard, the more you play it, the more the edges of the neck round over and become comfortable over the years. This doesn’t happen as much with binding for whatever reason. Glad you are getting enjoyment out of guitars and playing even though you aren’t playing out these days. Hey, you’re not the only one not playing out these days. All of us musicians have been thrown for a bit of a loop this past year. That being said we have all been learning how to adapt, and putting a lot more effort and focus into this channel has been a big part of that for me. That is definitely one positive thing I will take away from and remember when looking back at this time and my own personal experience. It’s been nice to upload more regularly and see this thing grow slowly but surely. Keep on playing and enjoy the content!

Hey, loved the video! Question: How would you compare this to the Yamaha Red Label made in China concert size? Nobody around here has the Eastmans for me to try, but the Yamahas sound amazing. Opinion???
I tried one of the Yamaha red labels about two weeks ago so it’s fresh in my mind. Both are exceptional instruments honestly. If you prefer a fat neck, then the Eastman is great. If you prefer a more modern feeling neck, the Yamaha is wonderful. I’d also say that goes for the sound. The Eastman sounds a little bit bigger and Older if that makes any sense where the Yamaha sounds a little more three dimensional and modern. Can’t go wrong with either. If you have the Yamaha local to you and really like it, then I’d say go for it.
Actually I have not tried the red lable. They seem to have everything but. We play bluegrass, country and folk. Looking for a little more bottom end like my Martin and guild. In your opinion, which has the better bass or bottom end sound of the two. Don’t want dread. I understand the smaller body won’t have the same bass as dread.” But, of the two which would lend itself more to bluegrass? From the vids it sounds like the Eastman is bassier.
@@tonydovell6131 if you can try some Eastmans, I believe Eastman will be the answer for more bass. I have an E6om (see the videos on my channel), and that particular Guitar has amazing amounts of low end and big Sound for its size. I don’t play in Bluegrass situations, but out of all my guitars, I’ve felt like that’s the one that would hold up and perform grade in that kind of a setting. Maybe it’s the mahogany and spruce combo, but it’s loud loud loud. I think a really good E1om would do something similar. Regarding the Eastmans try as many as you can, and pick the one you like the most. With the fact that they are handmade, there are vast differences from Guitar to Guitar so if you have a Music Store near you where you can give them a go definitely do that.

If you want to check out that E6om episode 100 was shot right after I received it, episode 155 about prime tone, guitar pics features it again after quite a bit of playing. It’s in the second half of that episode doing a little bit of a bluegrass type thing, then I did another episode, much more recently comparing the E1 vs E6OMs’ where I talk about and try to demonstrate the differences in mahogany and sapele. Unfortunately it wasn’t this particular E1, as this one is absolutely spectacular, but it was another that belongs to another student of mine. Both of the E1s’ are owned by students of mine who play them a lot.

Yes, I can certainly testify that an OM is a very useful tool for anyone who loves acoustic guitar. To me it’s the perfect middle ground. I love dreadnaughts, I love parlours, but for some thing that has the focus of a smaller body guitar with all the horsepower one would usually need, these Eastman OMs’ definitely deliver. In fact, I enjoyed reviewing this one so much that I now have an E6OM in my life that I am going to do a full review of on episode 100, in about a week and A half. Awesome picking! I got the E 6 OM and love it! The size, sound, finish and playability are truly outstanding. The OM body size is perfect. Strummed or finger picked, this guitar sounds great!

Hey. I will up load episode 98 this week, so episode 100 will come out January 26. Have you seen the episode where I pitted this guitar up against a dreadnaught? That was episode 93. I would say that demonstration certainly speaks to the versatility of these guitars. From what I know Eastman makes their om Instruments with a slightly larger lower bout and a tiny bit more depth than a standard orchestra model. I wonder if anyone can speak to the particulars of this as I have not had the chance to do a direct comparison between this and say a 00018, but I’ve got to say with both this guitar and the E6 that I now own I am extremely impressed with the volume and projection/overall big sound for guitar with this body style :-) I hope this helps at least a little bit

How does it compare sound/tone wise to a 00018? I’ve heard some people say the e1om is very bright, but doesn’t sound like it here.
I’d say it depends on the particular guitar honestly. I have played some E1s’ that were bright and a little thin sounding, where as I’ve played some others that are absolute cannons. I think a lot of it depends on the thickness and stiffness of the top as Eastman is making these by hand, but the caveat is that they spend a lot more time hand voicing the upper end models. If you have the luxury of trying a few of them, most likely, you will find a really good one that punches well above its price point. This one is very very special. It belongs to a student of mine and it only sounds better now. I have another student with one purchased more recently that doesn’t quite have the depth ortone of this example, but another friend owns one that sounds absolutely huge, just different than this one. Ideally a try before you buy situation.

I have money for an e200m but I like the ovangkol wood on the e30m. My question is if the differences between models is only in wood and finish or also in playability and comfort?
Does an e1om or e30m play just as well as an e200m or e80m or e60m?
In short yes. All of the Eastman guitars, be there entry models or higher end feel very similar. The biggest difference is gloss finish on higher end guitars, and satin on the lower end range. Go with the one that you like the Timbers of the most, and if you can try before you buy only because every acoustic guitar is so different, and Eastmans have hand shaped necks, so the feel from one guitar to the next can be different for sure.. they all feel great, and I’ve played many entry level guitars with impeccable fret work from Eastman two, so have no fear in that regard.

@@986dryy it’s a great back inside option as it leans a little bit more towards the Rosewood sound, but still has that nice strong fundamental like mahogany does. I did a review on an Eastman ac222ce-OV that sounds great and really captures the vibe of that lumber. Yes, the different body shapes certainly each have a sound all their own, but the most important thing is comfort. If you’re comfortable on a guitar it will allow you to play the things you want to play. I think I can speak for many people when I say that even though the Eastman oms’ are not the largest guitars in the world they certainly have a big big sound that allows you to play anything you want. I gig with one quite often and don’t feel that it lacks anything at all. Huge sound actually! The grand auditorium feels and sounds a little bit bigger than that, then of course the dreadnaught is classic for a good reason to. Give them all a try and take the one home that you like the most. hello, in the end I tried several guitars, eastman, martin, gibson... and well I bought a sigma somr45 that sounds wonderful, it's spectacular, it has the perfect neck cut, a top with the edge every millimeter and in mirror and a very tight rosewood , never touch anything as good. I would like to send you a video of it so you can hear how good it sounds and how warm it is. you have mail?
I tried several sigmas and they seemed to me to be instruments of a medium low range, and with an inadequate neck in the cut of the wood. but nevertheless this somr 45 was spectacular.

I have owned a bunch of Eastman guitars, currently only a E-8-D sunburst. Never meet one that wasn’t great. Good picking to pal.

They are among the best sounding guitars that I've played. HOWEVER: I tried 2 E-10OMs a couple of years ago. Beautiful, stunning guitars, that were little cannons. The problem was, my fingers hated the frets. Trying to do runs was like falling down stairs for my left hand.

Amazing guitars for sure. I have not felt the fret issue you speak of, although I know they have changed their fret wire material in the past couple years and are now using a Jescar medium sized variety which my hands are OK with personally. I did not buy this guitar, however one of my students did, and it wasn’t at any of the big chains. There’s a store in town called Sounds good Music on Rochester Street. I don’t know if you are from Ottawa? If you are you should definitely go check it out. He stocks a lot of very interesting guitars. If you go talk to Brett and tell him Lucas sent you, it’s an amazing little place with a lot of gems!

Hey Lucas, just dropped by to let you know I have my new E1-OM. Took two tries, and both guitars were not according to spec. The first one was cedar, and while it was ok, it isn't what I wanted. It got returned. The second one, the keeper, was supposed to have an ebony fretboard and bridge,but mine are Rosewood. I told the store where I got it from, they offered a return or a 50€ discount. I took the 50€. So, with discount, I paid 599€ with setup. If these are going for around $700 CAD, that would make them really attractive, and an ideal choice for beginners. I learned on a cheap Aria 12 string starting in 1974. I wish I'd had a guitar like this!

I’m considering there AC622ce but I’m not sure since I can’t find one near me to play. It’s Maple back and sides and I’m not sure if it’ll be too bright or not for my liking
Never played the ac622, but my father has been loving his ac222 that I reviewed on this channel as well. Can’t speak for the maple back and sides on the other guitar, but the ac222ce is a very big, rich and three-dimensional sounding guitar, partially due to its body size. I’m sure the body is big enough that with the maple back and sides it could still be a warm sounding guitar, but it’s hard for me to say not having tried it specifically. If I get the chance to though I will check one out and review it on the channel next time I go to the music shop that carries Eastmans around me. I will have to see if they have one. I am looking for slightly smaller, literally smaller, guitars and scales. I have small fingers though do play classical. Does this feel smaller in length, i.e. slightly comfier fret spacing or is there no discernible difference to conventional scales. I am thinking about comfy length, for me, for light strumming of chords. I notice the Furch blue equivalent is 25.5 inches or so. Am metric so confuses me! Anyhow, do you notice a difference between length of Eastman OM and Furch OM. I Know tension will differ but it is the fret spacing/overall length that intrigues me. Thank you so much.
Hello. Thank you for your interesting comment. yes I do feel a difference between this 24.9 inch scale length and the standard that I am used to which is 25.5. I wouldn’t call it a dramatic difference, but I do feel it a little when I go back and forth. If you’re looking for something substantially smaller and lower tension you might want to consider a parlour guitar or travel guitar. I believe both companies offer some good options in this regard. I say this as I recently acquired in Eastman E6OM that I ended up getting as I loved this one so much. I actually used it on a show I played live from my channel on Friday evening if you want to check it out, and will be doing a review of it next week on the channel. Anyhow, I say all of this as I am a heavy hitter, and find that I could get the Eastman om to behave much like my dreadnaught, where as I tend to pick up my parlour guitar, made by a local builder, when I want an instrument that is super compact, really easy to play and well suited towards fingerpicking, very light strumming and finger style jazz playing. I actually reviewed the Eastman ACTG2E travel guitar on my channel about a year ago if you’re interested in checking one out. Very impressed with that little guitar. I hope this helps!

You are correct it is short scale 24.9 inches, like most 000 styles. I also did a review on the E6OM which is very similar but with mahogany back and sides and a glossier finish. Hope you are able to find one! When you do, let me know what you think.

Thanks for your comment. It’s hard for me to know without trying your Taylor, but I looked up the guitar and it states a spruce top, but does not say whether the top is solid or not. I do know that this Eastman has a solid top, and they do make a dreadnaught version like your tailor as well, which I really like. Little details on this guitar would be better at least on paper like Ebony bridge pins, and I do find that with the Eastmans being hand tooled, you get a guitar that is more voiced acoustically, so a very resonant guitar for the price. Eastman makes guitars in much smaller quantities than Taylor, so I personally find that there is more attention to detail for that reason. That being said I have played some fantastic Taylor guitars and if you like your guitar acoustically and find it inspiring this is really what counts. No need to exchange if you enjoy what you already have. Hope this helps and hope you have a great day
Oh yeah, and I forgot, this Eastman is all solid wood construction. I find that this adds to the volume and especially low end contents/overtones of the guitar. I almost forgot about that as the equivalent Eastman is actually the PCH model with laminate back and sides. For the price with these, you get a lot of Guitar for the money

this is a little off subject but have you ever tried elixir acoustic strings? if so how do you like them? i pretty much have to use them because i kill other strings in a day or two with my sweat lol great playing :)
Absolutely. I use them often on my main gigging acoustic guitars. aside from the high price I love them. Corrosion/sweat resistant for sure and if I record with an acoustic a lot I tend to put them on as they last quite awhile. I don’t care for them on electric personally, but that’s just me. Man, these Eastman guitars sounds so good. I think I’m going to have think long and hard. Trying to decide between an Eastman and a Yamaha Red Label. I really want an OM body on either.
Hi Lucas, really nice vid and guitar. I'm between this second-hand for 850 euros here or a Furch 2018 Limited Edition OM-LX second-hand for 2,000 euros. Any ideas on which to go for? The Furch is one of only 75 ever built, it's really amazing but so is this Eastman, and a darn sight cheaper
First thank you for tuning into the channel, and hope you stick around for some more videos. secondly I’m curious, what is the wood combination on the Furch? I can’t find anything on that particular guitar on Google, but I have demoed an om31 on the channel, and wow, what a guitar! I suppose I would ask you what your intentions are when it comes to playing this new guitar. are you a gigger, or someone who plays at home more? Not that this is a deciding factor, but the Eastman Instruments are such great amount of guitar that one gets for the money that I would say you could get a ton of enjoyment out of one of these guitars if you’re playing at home most often. Even if you are gigging they are great guitars, as I got a new Eastman E6OM for Christmas, and it is reliable in every way. If money is not an issue I have been thoroughly impressed with those Furch guitars, and by all means go ahead and check out my demo of the om31 if interested. The carbon fibre reinforcements in the neck and other innovative features really make those guitars something special. Either way I would say you will have a great guitar though if you can let me know more of the specs on that om60 and something about your playing style I can try to help A little more. Either would be great and don’t be fooled by the lower price on the Eastman stuff, it is top class

No this one does not have any neck dive, nor does my E6OM that I purchased for myself after doing this review. Sometimes that’s just a thing though as I have other guitars that do have neck dive. Personally I find that a nice suede or leather strap can mitigate the issue very nicely. Does the store you purchased it from have an exchange policy? If it’s a dealbreaker for you then I’m sure you could exchange it for a different variant as most of them don’t have that issue from my experience. I’m glad to hear you have enjoyed the guitar otherwise. I’m extremely impressed with them
what is a neck dive?
I just demo'd one of these today in a local guitar shop. absolutely incredible tone. I could not believe this was on offer for $589 as it sounded about 5 - 10 times that.
It’s crazy a? It’s something about that wood combination, the body shape and the satin finish I think that just makes these guitars wide awake right away. I understand that for sure. With all honesty sometimes finding the right teacher can make the biggest difference in the world. I’ve had a lot of people come to me with various frustrations, be it technique, timing, and knowledge of the fretboard etc. etc., and I love helping people figure out how to get over there hurdles. Have you tried lessons with a couple of different teachers? In either case I’m happy to hear that you are plugging along and getting enjoyment out of it as this is the most important thing at the end of the day. Enjoy the little things in your progress, as often as a guitar player as we can get very frustrated, thinking that things will come to us more quickly than they do. Remember to practice slowly and try hard to not Drive yourself crazy. As musicians we have to constantly remind ourselves to ignore those negative voices in the back of our heads :-)
@@LucasHaneman thanks Lucas...you are a great motivator....Im switching instruments and tunings to try to get out of a rut.....my biggest issue is I'm 62 and didn't find out until I was in my 50s that I had really bad ADD....I also have heart issues and can't take meds for the ADD....also...lol....Ive had other health issues that messed up my memory so lyrics are pretty much out of the question.....Im just switching from open D....open G and then mandolin.....just instrumental things.....I just got a Rob Mackillop book "Scottish guitar" so I'm starting to dig into that...thanks for your inspiring correspondence....!

Yes exactly. The other guitar was the E1D. It was fantastic as well. Very full frequency response and nice and loud. I think it’s definitely a winner for the amount you spend, just like this one. I’m trying to recall if I saw you comment on it, but I actually just released the dreadnaught E1D compared to E2D comparison video last week. It’s titled “Spruce versus Cedar dreadnaught showdown”, or something to that effect. I’m also working on and E8OM vs E6OM rosewood versus mahogany back and sides video that I should have out within the next few weeks at some point as well! I really enjoy doing comparison videos like that :-)
