I've been married for the past 16 years to the 'very nice blonde' who played keyboards in Virgin Dance . Her name (then) was Lorraine Gardner. She's still blonde and still very nice.
After this Eddie went on to form 'Picnic At The Whitehouse' (had a fab single called We Need Protection). He then worked in Italy where he became quite successful, also featuring on a big TV ad (for Coca Cola?). I was his keyboard player briefly before he went to Italy.
@@alexbergmann2817We Need Protection had already been recorded when I came along so I’m not sure what was used, although by the sounds I’m guessing it was an Emulator or Fairlight along with PPG Wave or DX7 (if that was available then), maybe an Oberheim, and bits of every other 80s keyboard that a good studio would have in-house!
@@colindrummond796 I was a professional soldier long time but I follow music since mid 80's. I liked Talk Talk,Depeche Mode, early techno and house anthems and of course Metallica. From the 80's era I liked also a song Lessons in love by Level 42, it is also perfectly done and worth to mention is german band Propaganda. I liked Gary Moore too...he was unsung guitar king. Im a fan of classic music too, mostly on violins. I had once a small studio where I played 2 years some demos on DAT tapes. I had Roland JX-3P,Roland JP-8000,Roland MC-303,Korg M1,Yamaha DX-7,Yamaha RM1X, Ensoniq ASR-10 . Now I have Kurzweil K-2600 and would like to get Roland D-50 . I always liked art in general, not only music and always wondered how someone achieved some complex sound. I am amazed about that We need protection sound, someone(maybe Eckart Debussmann) really did great job. I think opening sound of the song is from Roland JX-8P its STAB Brass preset, but the rest of the sounds I only recognize the bells sound from Yamah DX-7, other metallic groovy sound which blows me away is a mystery to me. All that synth sound perfectly blended with Ed's voice, the mixing is awesome. No wonder why so many people still today like the song, its a masterpiece in its category.
WXB 102 brought me here. I've been looking for the title and artist of this track for quite some time now, including Soundhound, to no avail. Finally, someone from WXB 102 commented on the chat box that it's from Virgin Dance, so I immediately went out looking for this track on TH-cam. Another piece of my 1980s childhood puzzle has finally been found! I may never have heard of this track before when I was a still a kid in the 1980s, but the sound of this track still brings a lot of great memories from a more innocent period of time for sure.😍💕 P. S. Upon further research, I found out that this single was released in 1983, the year the group was formed in Liverpool in 1983. Other singles released by this group were "No Disguise" (1983), "Desire" (1984) and "The Dream Is Over (We Can Make It)" (1984), after which they disbanded altogether after a mere two years of existence.
I can remember Eddie and Virgin Dance playing this song for the very first time in the "POLO"....The Polaris..in Upholland...Eddie was still reading it from a scrap of paper as he sang....at that time they had a young blond girl? on Keyboards....They were brilliant.....when they finished this song Eddie said....What do you think Steve ???...Its still as good today..all these years on as it was the very first time I heard it..does any one know what happened to these guys.....
Saw them At the Camden Palace in August 1983. Such a memory! We had met at the pub outside before the gig and they let my friend and me inside as group members. What a night!
I’ve (re)discovered the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. I’m 32 years old and it took 18 years for us to finally come together and realize how perfect we are for each other. I met her in high school and always knew that if I ever had the opportunity I would be a great partner for her. I always thought of her. Crazy how life works. I will play this song at our wedding, I can already see it.
Thanks for the info...Ive often wondered what became of Eddie...I knew he was a big artist in Italy and went on to become one of the top artists in the EU...Its amazing when its an ordinary lad from Skem with a hell of a lot of talent....not undermining the the lads/lasses in the bands...cos I think it was partially because of them that he found his vocation in life...
One of my prized possesions is the LP Against The Tide. It's not a good pressing but on good equipment it sounds superb. I Desire is a classic. This piece of plastic is always handled very carefully.
only time i saw them was when they supported the eurythmics , 1984 i think. eden court inverness. bought one of their posters. want to say it still survives but i dont think so
So great to hear this again! Came back in my head today and so glad I could find it on here. Just beautiful.

Hey you ! Stop promoting your own work ! (I agree. It is a really great song. And there were other great songs from Virgin Dance !)

wow...are you Eckart D.or a Martin Levy ?

it sounds simply amazing

This song is brill. Has anyone got Virgin Dance - The Dream is over?
I have got the record :-)

Good stuff. Too bad they never released a "real" album (No, "Against The Tide" is a compilation, not an album!)
