The 2022 Infiniti QX55 Is A Stylish Looking New Coupified SUV

  • The Infiniti FX was one of the first-ever sports SUVs to come to market nearly 20 years ago. For 2022, #Infiniti is looking to capture the design essence with the #InfinitiQX55. This new #QX55 is based on the #InfinitiQX50 which means you get Infiniti innovative VC-Turbo engine and standard AWD. While the #InfinitiFX was built off of a rear drive Nissan Z platform, this shares its architecture with the FWD Nissan Rogue and Altima.

That dashboard does look pretty outdated for anybody who's used to driving even a semi-modern premium or luxury car, and not offering a panoramic sunroof on a sporty-ish car like this could be a deal-breaker for some buyers, not to mention the CVT transmission. There are obviously some flaws, but let’s remember this and the QX50 were the last cars developed by “Old Nissan”… hence it’s tech kinda being behind the curve. Yes it just debuted last year, but remember it was delayed by almost a year. Like someone else commented, it’s a 9-spd auto and infotainment update/digital gauges away from being a very good entry in this segment. Otherwise there is absolutely nothing wrong with the interior and it is VERY high quality. I think the VC-Turbo would have a better rep if it wasn’t tagged to the CVT. The thing is torquey! I imagine it would win more hearts if the CVT was taken out of the equation.
If anyone has actually been in one of these you’ll know the center screens ARE NOT low resolution. Yes the top screen is a matte finish, but it has good resolution. They updated this aspect from 2020 onward.
Also, anyone with common sense knows this is only inspired in design by the FX. It is not a successor to it.

The QX50 & QX55 needs a complete refresh, especially with the dated infotainment center and gauge cluster. They need to get rid of that troublesome Jatco CVT transmission and not worth $50,000. And the sound of the CVT Transmission during acceleration is horrible!

Spiritual successor?! The Infiniti FX was in a class of its own when it debuted. Every luxury automaker and most mainstream automaker has an SUV that’s reminiscent of the original Infiniti FX. This here is a front wheel drive based with CVT. Genesis built a better spiritual successor with its GV80 than Infiniti did with their QX55. Infiniti, please return to your original formula making beautiful vehicles that are fun to drive.

Out of the Japanese competition, I’d happily take the Acura RDX no question. I am a fan of Honda/Acura products, and it just feels a lot more premium and it’s more fun to drive. I mean who puts a CVT in a luxury SUV and also it literally just looks like a more fancy Nissan interior. Infiniti just doesn’t differentiate itself enough from Nissan.

I feel they should keep the 2.0 VC turbo in this car...unless they want to make a red sport version of every car they make, in which case the 3.0TT V6 from the Q50 red sport (same engine used in the "new" Nissan Z) would be a great choice, if it was designed for a transverse layout as well (I highly doubt that). The CVT needs to go though, no competitor in its segment uses a CVT except the hybrids.
