Lol this is kool. We used to attach 2 rafts with a bungee cord on the arm handles so no one would get off track. And we do the same with multiple bungee cords and attach 2 canoes together because I tipped over ever 5 minutes Lol. As soon as we got to the end of the route and had to take the bungie cords off to carry the canoes up to the bus. I tipped over instantly. But we had so much fun. This was in Ohio campgrounds. Love your videos and Scamp and the dog!! 😀 💖
I wish I had a bungee cord so I could have Patrick paddle me down the river 😂 I will keep that in mind for our next trip! 💪 Thanks for watching Wanda! 👍
I hate to mention it, but Laura is just dipping her paddle quickly on each side instead of getting the paddle down into the water to take advantage of the whole flat of the paddle. It could be that she is used to paddling without wind where that dipping method sort of works. I hope that you are open to criticism as I know that it can be bad to correct someone who is not a friend. At least I know that Laura cannot hit me with her paddle, which is convenient for me.
I will admit that my paddling skills are very rusty- and paddling this strange raft is very different from our Kayaks. The plan for next year- get a kayak rack, bump up my arm workout (I seriously lacked the upper body strength for this trip), and brush up my paddling technique! and yes you are safe from the paddle- the next day I could barely lift my arms ...but next year I will be ready💪
Redford loves camping (especially with the Scamp), but a lot of the places we were staying on this trip were not dog friendly 😠 so he stayed with the grandparents and got spoiled instead 😁
Love this video! I live in WV and love the rivers. This brings back memories of a wondy White water rafting trip I took with my daughter when I was 40 years old. I’m going on 64 now and it is one of the most exciting things I’ve ever done:)
part of the issue was that it had not rained for a while and the river was very low- you could stand up in most places...but life jackets are always important even if you can swim
Thank you for a view of the rafting experience and the advice about the wind. The Harper’s Ferry area is beautiful. I stayed at the Harper’s Valley KOA 2 summers ago and it was really nice but the sites are very close together compared to most state park sites. Thanks, also, for the info about the campground that you checked out there at the river.
We looked at the KOA because it has a great location, but when possible we like to have our space & therefore a quieter camping experience. We have yet to stay in a KOA, but I am sure it will be necessary at some point. The Harpers Ferry campground is in a great location, but again not going to give us the quiet experience we prefer- but I bet waking up and looking out on the river is beautiful in the morning
Very nice videos you have made. 2 recommendations for you. Get good locks for your trailer hitch. And I would also say a pair of two way radios for short distance communication. Cheers from Colorado
Thanks for the recommendations Bruce! we have a hitch lock as well as a wheel lock for extra safety & we like the idea of the 2-way radios- I have seen other people using that to communicate when parking so you don't have to yell back & forth- I am sure everyone in the campground would appreciate that 😁
Another great video. Thanks guys. You were in my neck if the woods. A couple of interesting things about the Shenandoah River. 1st; it flows south to north. As you drive south down the valley, the higher in altitude you go. And 2nd; the Shenandoah River can be really shallow, as you saw it, or it can put Harpers Ferry under water by 6 or so feet. Of course anything in the middle is where it could also end up. Doesn't take a hurricane either. Just a real rainy season will do. There are all kinds of rafting and kayaking trips up and down the river throughout the whole valley. Pretty neat. Keep the videos coming. Have fun and stay safe.
That is really interesting - I didn't realize that when we were there! One of the things that makes this area so unique. Last year when we had this trip planned (before the scamp) there was a week of rain followed by the remains of a hurricane & I remember seeing a picture of Harpers Ferry on the news and the water was just about at the bottom of the bridge! That was when we decided Colorado was a safer bet- but we will return to Harpers Ferry & hopefully try another sort of rafting trip if Mother Nature agrees!
Harpers Ferry would be great in the Spring! and I bet the river is moving better in the spring so we would not have struggled so much to paddle! thanks for the tip Jennifer!
congratulations- that is very exciting & thanks for the offer- we plan on returning to Colorado in the future because there was so much we didn't get to see last year- including Great Sand Dune NP

Exactly what I was thinking.

Good adventure. Paddling takes lots of arm strength. looking forward for part 6
Yes it does! gonna have to up the arm workout for next year so we can get more paddling trips in
Laura/Patrick, so Redford does not get to go camping? RC

I'm still following but I'm just gonna let you guys do the rafting thing ,because I don't know how to swim lol

I've been many times. The best time to go is May. Just an fyi for those considering it. Also the ropes course is great for beginners
