One detail that I'm glad you picked up on: the only time we see Jinx looking afraid is when she's confronting things inside her own head (memories, feelings, insecurities) - but whenever she faces an external threat, she's completely devoid of fear. Great way of showing how intense her inner trauma is - that nothing else in the external world can compare to it.
to expand on that: That is called a suicidal behavior... being suicidal is not only the direct act to end your own life, for example jumping off a tall building, but also put yourself purposefully in a life risk situation with little to no regard. This will be better depicted as the shows goes on how little regard she has for her life, circling back to what you stated of her take on her trauma and how she sees her in the world.
I wouldn't say she was in jail for the entire 7 years. They don't just have tattoo parlors in prison cells. She had to have got them somewhere while on the streets.

The episode is so good because there was a large time jump, a motivated time jump in which Jayce and Viktor changed the world, and the city, characters and dynamics have changed so much ... and yet the show presents it all through dynamic scenes only. Rather than long exposition, montages or titles etc. It lets us discover it in the moments.

I like that you immediately clocked schizophrenia and BPD as possible conditions for Jinx, as those are the two most popular interpretations for her. Personally I'm in the BPD camp for it, but she wasn't written to have any specific diagnoses, and they left room for interpretations.
BPD makes the most sense. Because of things from season 2 that I won't mention here, but even early onset schizophrenia (she is a bit too young for it to have reared it's head according to the usual timeline for it) has a similar or increasing intensity. It almost never decreases or ceases during a lul in stressors.

Spoiler free notes that might be important to point out! - The scenes between Jinx and Silco are made to feel a bit weird / uncomfortable for viewers, but in the end they're a father and a daughter - Vi is in prison because Marcus took her away in s1e3 after Vi had to take some space between herself and powder - No one (besides Marcus) knows who Vi is or that Vi is even alive, she's assumed to be dead or otherwise gone permanently
I would not say those are spoiler free, you're not supposed to know Marcus throw her in prison during those 7 years and that he didn't tell anyone. That comes much later, you can assume she was in prison all this time but you can't know for sure and we don't know that Marcus hid it.

You see Marcus arresting Vi at the end of E3, you see her still in prison at the end of E4, and you hear “no record of your crimes” at the start of E5. At the end of E5 you also have the “from the dead?” reaction from Silco, indicating that he believed Vi was truly gone. Regardless, Stu has seen all of Act2 now, so it's a moot point.

I’m early so maybe you’ll actually see this comment. I discovered your channel when you did some of your reactions on ren and your psychoanalysis of the issues there and you’ve taught me a great deal about our natural responses to trauma, even the psychological jargon and terminology explanations has helped me articulate some of the issues I’ve had in my own life to other people which I have found very useful. I learnt the other day through your reaction to these arcane videos that you served and was deployed as well. The reason I bring this up is because I’ve just come from a video talking about male role models and how we’re sorely lacking them today. With your attitude towards emotions and your display of them I find it encouraging that your breaking down the stigma of our culture trying to suppress male emotions as much as possible as well as being comfortable with observing and trying to help. This alongside your prior career I want to say I think you’re a great male role model (from the videos I’ve seen) demonstrating a degree of strength (from your time served) and knowledge but also vulnerability empathy and compassion (the line music video). Finally I want to say I really appreciate the way you’re reacting to these arcane videos. At the end of the day you need to watch them properly to be able to enjoy them and appreciate the quality and pausing every five seconds to talk for several minutes would certainly take you out of the moment and diminish the impact of the art as a whole.

Regarding powder/jinx disconnect of the violence she utilises: i think signs of a very problematic disregard of life were already in ep 1-3, she was willing to use nailbombs in unarmed streetbrawls at 10. It seemed to me that she was way to young to register the violence around her during the rebellion on the bridge as an outlier and instead built a worldview that doesnt value life. her role as a Tinkerer and gunner makes her even more prone to overstep on force, bc its just a button she uses for her bombs,i feel she tragically lacked a mentor in her tinkering, a role that brawlers like vi or vander couldn't fullfill

I've been waiting for this!! I'm really excited to hear more of your thoughts on Jinx and Silco's relationship. It's so fascinating, and it's cool that you immediately picked up on their codependency. Viktor did have a cane in act 1, but it was more of a walking aid. He's even shown standing without it a few times. But in act 2, it's switched out for a crutch that he's always putting his full weight on, plus he's got a leg brace. Combine that with his gaunt, disheveled look, and it doesn't paint a great picture. I love how the character designs change like this as a piece of visual storytelling!

Really interesting thing the animators do with Jinx/Powder is that they have a rig for her face that morphs her face between having sharper and softer features, making her look more like Jinx or Powder respectively as her the scene demands. It's super interesting and shows how much intention there is in the characters' expressions in this show

It makes so much sense why I relate so heavily to jinx/powder being that I share similar life experiences in childhood and certain symptoms. Im not diagnosed yet but I want to get it diagnosed for both c-ptsd and and borderline personality disorder. And I dont say it lightly as ive done heavy and extensive research into both and see many shared symptoms to both that I have. I have a hyperfixation on jinx/powder because of how deeply she resonates with me as a character.
"Sacrifice your life's work..." was a call back to Heimer's statement to Jayce at the start of this episode when he was talking about Stanwick Padidley who ultimately failed at being an inventor and instead became a professor to help the next generation.
As someone who’s seen the whole show multiple times, one of my favorite things is seeing an Easter egg, or a hint for future episodes, or when you predict something, I’ll give a little chuckle and a “just you wait”. I like how you mention the parallels between hextech and shimmer. Previously we saw that shimmer has growth properties, the eye injection is when we first see shimmer being used as medicine. Medicine restores deficiencies in one's quality of life to its baseline, and Silco is trying to weaponize medicine. Hextech is more akin to an energy source, Jayce and Viktor harnessed this energy source to build more efficient tools in an effort to improve lives. Technology can enhance quality of life beyond the baseline but we all know that tools can always be used as weapons. This show is full of these contrasting parallels, can't wait to see more!
In the scene in Silco’s office don’t know if you noticed the details on Silco’s mug and ashtray - but they are nice pieces to help us fill in the time skip gap

There are other instances where the lines do repeat themselves: Grayson to Marcus in episode 2: "Do you have any idea of what you've done?!" (Someone from Piltover messing up) Silco to Jinx in episode 4: "Do you have any idea of what you've done?!" (Someone from Zaun messing up) Later on we also hear two versions of: "What's your plan to fix this?"
actually, I think it started when she was a kid. If you watch the episode 1, when their parents died. You can actually see the stuff you see everytime she is in a psychotic state. Like the drawings and Xs appearing on screen. So, my theory was it triggered or got worst when Vi slapped her and called her Jinx.
I don't know if you noticed, but Silco pretends to be a strong undercity, to be-te-feared-off boss, but still uses a cute monkey bomb mug that Jinx created :D Such a father figure (even though I may not agree with the things he is doing). I think he loves her too much and he shows it by using such an item. These details in this show will probably never stop to amaze me...
Perfect little moments in the show, number 48 in a series: when the counselor struggles with the child's puzzle as his dialogue at that moment shows he can't see the glaringly obvious reason for and solution to the Undercity's condition.

Once again I applaud your attention to detail with understanding that the red haired girl Jinx shoots in the beginning is not Vi. Most other reactors I watched take much longer to figure that out. Also since you mentioned the music, this is something else that makes Arcane stand out for me: Not just the score but also all songs of the soundtrack have been composed specifically for the show, so the lyrics usually have a reason for being as they are.
The Great Conspiracy is also an interesting contrast of how many topside view Piltover versus Cait. The counselors treat Piltover a single monolithic block, though each counselor has different adjectives: - Violent - Poor - Savages - Workers (what Jayce says in his speech) No one treats Pilties like individuals. So Caitlyn's Great Conspiracy is a deviation of that mindset. A single mastermind is causing the Undercity to fall to chaos and threatens topside as a result. She still sees them as a block, but one that is misled by a single leader. Take out the leader, and the Undercity can go back to being a controllable variable. So while her position is an improvement, it still sees Pilties as lesser. Literally beneath her. That they are so simple that they can be herded by a single evil mastermind. I love the depth of this show. Really makes you think.

I like that you immediately clocked schizophrenia and BPD as possible conditions for Jinx, as those are the two most popular interpretations for her. Personally I'm in the BPD camp for it, but she wasn't written to have any specific diagnoses, and they left room for interpretations.
BPD makes the most sense. Because of things from season 2 that I won't mention here, but even early onset schizophrenia (she is a bit too young for it to have reared it's head according to the usual timeline for it) has a similar or increasing intensity. It almost never decreases or ceases during a lul in stressors.

- Vi is in prison because Marcus took her away in s1e3 after Vi had to take some space between herself and powder
- No one (besides Marcus) knows who Vi is or that Vi is even alive, she's assumed to be dead or otherwise gone permanently

I would not say those are spoiler free, you're not supposed to know Marcus throw her in prison during those 7 years and that he didn't tell anyone. That comes much later, you can assume she was in prison all this time but you can't know for sure and we don't know that Marcus hid it.

You see Marcus arresting Vi at the end of E3, you see her still in prison at the end of E4, and you hear “no record of your crimes” at the start of E5.
At the end of E5 you also have the “from the dead?” reaction from Silco, indicating that he believed Vi was truly gone.
Regardless, Stu has seen all of Act2 now, so it's a moot point.

Another therapist had started making Arcane reaction videos at the same time liked you. However, I had to stop watching them, because he drove me to despair. I shouldn't draw parallels, but I think, based on your manner and your abilities, the way you present yourself and the way you go into detail in the videos, that you are also a really good therapist. I’m early so maybe you’ll actually see this comment. I discovered your channel when you did some of your reactions on ren and your psychoanalysis of the issues there and you’ve taught me a great deal about our natural responses to trauma, even the psychological jargon and terminology explanations has helped me articulate some of the issues I’ve had in my own life to other people which I have found very useful.
I learnt the other day through your reaction to these arcane videos that you served and was deployed as well. The reason I bring this up is because I’ve just come from a video talking about male role models and how we’re sorely lacking them today. With your attitude towards emotions and your display of them I find it encouraging that your breaking down the stigma of our culture trying to suppress male emotions as much as possible as well as being comfortable with observing and trying to help. This alongside your prior career I want to say I think you’re a great male role model (from the videos I’ve seen) demonstrating a degree of strength (from your time served) and knowledge but also vulnerability empathy and compassion (the line music video).
Finally I want to say I really appreciate the way you’re reacting to these arcane videos. At the end of the day you need to watch them properly to be able to enjoy them and appreciate the quality and pausing every five seconds to talk for several minutes would certainly take you out of the moment and diminish the impact of the art as a whole.
I started following your channel because of this series. As someone who likes to write traumatized characters, I really appreciate the measured approach you take to dissecting everything you see. I feel like following your journey can also help me embody the characters I try to bring to life better. Awesome stuff!

Regarding powder/jinx disconnect of the violence she utilises:
i think signs of a very problematic disregard of life were already in ep 1-3, she was willing to use nailbombs in unarmed streetbrawls at 10.
It seemed to me that she was way to young to register the violence around her during the rebellion on the bridge as an outlier and instead built a worldview that doesnt value life.
her role as a Tinkerer and gunner makes her even more prone to overstep on force, bc its just a button she uses for her bombs,i feel she tragically lacked a mentor in her tinkering, a role that brawlers like vi or vander couldn't fullfill

I've been waiting for this!! I'm really excited to hear more of your thoughts on Jinx and Silco's relationship. It's so fascinating, and it's cool that you immediately picked up on their codependency.
Viktor did have a cane in act 1, but it was more of a walking aid. He's even shown standing without it a few times. But in act 2, it's switched out for a crutch that he's always putting his full weight on, plus he's got a leg brace. Combine that with his gaunt, disheveled look, and it doesn't paint a great picture. I love how the character designs change like this as a piece of visual storytelling!

An interesting thing, which may be helpful for future episodes (spoiler-free): after the fight for the Shimmer cargo at the beginning of this episode, when Caitlyn tries to interview “the big guy” lying on the ground, she is told to drop it by Marcus who is a sherif now, the exact same guy who had a deal with Silco and dropped the bag of money in the blood after Vander got taken in episode 3.

It would be great to see a reaction to that now you’ve been introduced to Jinx. Actually I had a thought it would be cool to see a reaction to the full songs that are featured in each episode after you’ve seen them as they were written specifically for scenes or characters.

I kind of relate to Jinx a little bit with the way the show reflects how she process things and how things that happened in the past affect her without actually noticing, but the subconscious part of her mind does the thing anyways. I love that she has Silco that embrace the way she is and loves her even if she messes up, but still I hate him and that can't be helped haha.

Really interesting thing the animators do with Jinx/Powder is that they have a rig for her face that morphs her face between having sharper and softer features, making her look more like Jinx or Powder respectively as her the scene demands. It's super interesting and shows how much intention there is in the characters' expressions in this show

I think what you might be remembering at 30:58 is when Heimerdinger is talking to Jayce about how the famous inventor Stanwick Padidly sacrificed his own life's work to help his students earlier in the episode, which Heimerdinger refers to as "his sacrifice".

You made a really good connection between hextech and shimmer thats gonna make a lot of sense in season2. I never thought of it but its a very good parallel that'll keep developing.
It makes so much sense why I relate so heavily to jinx/powder being that I share similar life experiences in childhood and certain symptoms. Im not diagnosed yet but I want to get it diagnosed for both c-ptsd and and borderline personality disorder. And I dont say it lightly as ive done heavy and extensive research into both and see many shared symptoms to both that I have.
I have a hyperfixation on jinx/powder because of how deeply she resonates with me as a character.

Marcus put her in Stillwater (name of the prison) when Silco approached Powder to "protect" her from him since she lost her protector - Vander.
I like how you mention the parallels between hextech and shimmer. Previously we saw that shimmer has growth properties, the eye injection is when we first see shimmer being used as medicine. Medicine restores deficiencies in one's quality of life to its baseline, and Silco is trying to weaponize medicine. Hextech is more akin to an energy source, Jayce and Viktor harnessed this energy source to build more efficient tools in an effort to improve lives. Technology can enhance quality of life beyond the baseline but we all know that tools can always be used as weapons. This show is full of these contrasting parallels, can't wait to see more!
In the scene in Silco’s office don’t know if you noticed the details on Silco’s mug and ashtray - but they are nice pieces to help us fill in the time skip gap

actually, I think it started when she was a kid. If you watch the episode 1, when their parents died. You can actually see the stuff you see everytime she is in a psychotic state. Like the drawings and Xs appearing on screen. So, my theory was it triggered or got worst when Vi slapped her and called her Jinx.
I don't know if you noticed, but Silco pretends to be a strong undercity, to be-te-feared-off boss, but still uses a cute monkey bomb mug that Jinx created :D Such a father figure (even though I may not agree with the things he is doing). I think he loves her too much and he shows it by using such an item.
These details in this show will probably never stop to amaze me...
Perfect little moments in the show, number 48 in a series: when the counselor struggles with the child's puzzle as his dialogue at that moment shows he can't see the glaringly obvious reason for and solution to the Undercity's condition.

Once again I applaud your attention to detail with understanding that the red haired girl Jinx shoots in the beginning is not Vi. Most other reactors I watched take much longer to figure that out. Also since you mentioned the music, this is something else that makes Arcane stand out for me: Not just the score but also all songs of the soundtrack have been composed specifically for the show, so the lyrics usually have a reason for being as they are.

The Great Conspiracy is also an interesting contrast of how many topside view Piltover versus Cait. The counselors treat Piltover a single monolithic block, though each counselor has different adjectives:
- Violent
- Poor
- Savages
- Workers (what Jayce says in his speech)
No one treats Pilties like individuals. So Caitlyn's Great Conspiracy is a deviation of that mindset. A single mastermind is causing the Undercity to fall to chaos and threatens topside as a result.
She still sees them as a block, but one that is misled by a single leader. Take out the leader, and the Undercity can go back to being a controllable variable.
So while her position is an improvement, it still sees Pilties as lesser. Literally beneath her. That they are so simple that they can be herded by a single evil mastermind.
I love the depth of this show. Really makes you think.

He is named Gustove Jowler, and he's just reallllly unlucky to have had to be in the vicinity of both sisters. One shot him, the other apparently likes to hit him in the mouth with metal.
