    I'm watching all videos regularly which is very helpful for me to study Bible... I've one question... U r pointing Rahab, and this character is from Joshua and after that we can see one more book Judges.... This is too much time span in between Joshua and judges... So may I know which Rahab r u pointing in this video?

    • @SpokenGospel
      @SpokenGospel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Anuja! We're talking about the Rahab first mentioned in Joshua 2. She's an important part of Matthew's genealogy because even though she was both a Canaanite and a prostitute, God saved her from dying along with the rest of Jericho. Through her ingenuity and faith, God used someone no one expected to secure and save victory for God's people.
      Like Rahab, Jesus was also someone no one expected. (Remember how Nathanael said "can anything good come from Nazareth?" in John 1:46.) Even though Jesus was sinless, he became sinful like Rahab ("he became sin for us" 2 Corinthians 5:21), so that by his faithfulness he would secure and give victory to God's people.
      Have a great day!

    I've enjoyed several of these videos, but I would ask the Spoken Gospel leadership to give some thought and prayer to this one. I was disappointed with the disrespectful summaries of these women, calling the women as "less reputable" when the original audience would have known that while many of the men were guilty of eggregious sins, and three of the four women are are called out for their righteousness or righteous acts, and the fourth is a victim of rape and then has her husband murdered by her rapist. For example, why isn't the commentary that "Judah, who refused God's commands to protect his daughter-in-law, paid for a woman for sex, and thereby slept with his daughter-in-law..." instead of making Tamar sound awful and perverse, when she is acting from desperation and called righteous? Also, there is a fifth mother in this long list - Mary. Not sure why should would be left out, other than in an attempt to oversimplify. Very poor treatment of some disenfranchised women that the Lord is careful to show respect to in His word.

      Michelle, thank you so much for this. You're right, we missed the nuance here. The Old Testament (and the New) clearly highlight Tamar, Ruth, and Rahab's faith. The reason they're in this genealogy is precisely because they were faithful women among generations of faithless men; and faithful Gentiles among faithless Jews. The Messiah's genealogy highlights faithfulness wherever it's found; whether in a man or woman, Jew or Gentile.
      With regards to Bathsheba, you're right again. She shouldn't be called "less reputable" because of her marriage to the Gentile Uriah, even less so, the sinful actions of David.
      I hope this response helps. Jesus' disposition towards women was radical not just by his day's standards but our own, and we want to make sure our content reflects that. While we missed it here, we make all the same points you do in our podcasts about Tamar and Ruth! If you haven't checked them out, we'd welcome your feedback.
      Thanks for not just being a listener, but a discerning and active one. We love comments like this one! I pray that this hasn't stopped you from seeing Jesus on every page of Scripture!

    My personal Translation.
    1 This is the family tree of the MESSIAH JESUS, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
    2 ¶ Abraham fathered Isaac...
    ...16 And Jacob fathered Joseph the guardian of Mary, which gave birth to JESUS, whom is
    entitled the Messiah. {John 6:42}
    17 Thus all the generations, from Abraham to David, were fourteen generations. And from David
    until they were captured into Babylon, fourteen generations. And after they were held captive in
    Babylon unto CHRIST, are fourteen generations.
    18 Now the genesis of CHRIST JESUS begins like this: After the betrothment of his mother
    Mary with Joseph, before either of them could have met, she was found to be carrying in the
    womb, from the sacred GHOST.
    19 But because her fiancé, Joseph, was kindhearted & loathed to shame her in public, he
    preferred to have her disowned in a private manner.
    20 But as he slept on these thoughts, behold! The Angel of our Lord appeared unto him in a
    dream, saying: Joseph, thou son of David, do not dread to receive Mary as your bride; in truth
    the one who grows in her, is from the sacred GHOST.
    21 And she shall labor & deliver a son, and thou wilt call his name JESUS, since he shall save
    his citizens from their flaws.
    22 Now, all this came to fruition, to complete what was spoken through the Prophet by the
    LORD, foretelling:
    23 Behold! A Virgin shall bear in the womb & bring forth a son; and they will call his name
    IMMANUEL, which being translated is: The GOD among us.
    24 And when Joseph awoke out of bed, he did as the Angel of our Lord had bidden him, and
    accepted Mary as his wife.
    25 But he acquainted among her not, till she had brought forth her firstborn son; and she gave
    him the name JESUS. {Luke 1:31}
