The more I learn about this young and gifted man, the more I respect him. He has both courage and intelligence. I look forward to following his journey onwards.
Watch Sergei Pulunin dance and you will see the male dancer of a generation. Unlike many dancers Sergie did not choose to become a ballet dancer ~ his mother chose for him. But without doubt, the dance world is never going to forget him and he is going to succeed in whatever he decides to do in the dance world.
He reminds me of a young Nureyev. He was wild but worked so hard and had amazing presence on the stage. This man is strong, graceful and tender on stage. He is very attractive and supremely talented.
The best male dancer in the world. The British royal ballet school should have intervened and get the mothers paper work done so the mother could have stayed with Sergi at the age of 12. But not they cruelty separated a small child from her parents. The British exploited this genuine genius! And when he dismissed such harsh working exploitation hours of 12 hours a day ! They British system attacked him. It was all so very cruel same as this 2 manipulated entertainers or seudo journalists.
I agree with other comments about the interviewers, particularly the male interviewer (Sorry - don't know their names.) They do not understand too well, and the male interviewer clearly has no interest in the performing genius before him. Sergei is speaking non-aggressively about the toll of being a ballet dancer takes on one's life and how the dancers themselves are just used and abused without any concern for their well-being, their life, their happiness. That, from his perspective, he lived giving his all to dance for his parents since a little boy, understanding his performance is what would make them happy - the love of a child for his parents. And when they get divorced. it shattered his whole life, his perception of the world and his own purpose. In his struggle to find his own happiness, he realizes how exploitative the dance world is of its dancers and of him in particular and now he seeks to change it for dancers, including himself. And he expresses how he hopes to change that. I don't think people get that. I just discovered about Sergei 3 mos ago and have been watching everything there is about him, from the film "Dancer", his dance video to "Take me to the Church" which exploded internationally on the internet, and every other TH-cam I could find about him. I've watched "Dancer" at least 5 times over these last few months. I can identify with Sergei and his wishes so much, tho my story is the opposite of his. I also, from very early childhood 4 years of age like Sergei, was training to become a professional dancer; dancing was my passion - I would spontaneously dance in a variety of non-performing contexts. I was forced to stop just as my teen years approached b/c my parents -- the opposite of Sergei's -- were too self-absorbed and they weren't willing to take me to the classes where, at my now pre-teen age, I was initiating training with the hopes of becoming a professional ballerina. This was in NYC and it was too dangerous for me to go to the training academy by myself at ages 11-12. After coming home one night from the academy alone, being approached by a man I realize now was a child-molester but didn't understand then, who was trying to "befriend" me, I, fortunately, sensed that something was not right and didn't go with him.. And fortunately, we were in enough of a public place with people around that he could not kidnap me without my screaming. This experience scared me so badly. Tho I reported it to my parents, and my dad called the police -- but more to be at the center of attention when they came - my mother said if I wasn't willing to continue going to the academy by myself in the evening - I couldn't go anymore. And that was the end of my dance career. I tried to go back a couple of years later when I was older and felt capable of protecting myself -- but not having been training during those critical years of physical growth, my talent wasn't what it once was. Tho I was still the best in the class - the limitations I now experienced were crushing and disappointing. After a few months, I quit for good, mourning about it until my late teens when I developed another, more intellectual, career. And now - at this point in my life -- I am posting about this on a TH-cam comments page. I understand your vision, Sergei, and hope that you are able to bring about the changes in the dance world you wish. It probably won't happen until you are a bit older, as your goals require a kind of maturity you are going through now. Tho it may be too late for yourself -- you will be helping so many dancers in the future.
All dancers of his calibre need support on every level at all ages. The pressures are immense. The intensity to make dance look effortless is crippling. Free of the heavy joke. Yay!
He is a unique dancer of our era, because of his approach, kindness and giving of his art - Nothing matters as his work and hard persuasion as paid for all of us . I don’t think you realize that while ballet kept going by the wayside he is trying to make a difference in bringing back by putting the interest in making ballet a part of everyone , I mean everyone. He may not be able to express it as I see him , but listen carefully and take everything as a step at a time and slowly the interest of the public and future of the entertainment world. ( I will ask you a good questions , did his tattoos have you listen to him ? ok then, take that as a point of view .. Bonsoir Monsieur Polunin, and as you say "KEEP DANCING “ , right ?
I'm just finding out about him! He is awesome!! I watched a previous interview with him and the director of Dancer! That was a great interview.. I will find the film and watch asap!! He will re write history and keep ballet alive for everyone!!
When you are given a gift from God, everybody is always taking a small piece of you. There comes a time when you need to step back and find yourself on your terms and in your own time period.
The British, and the BBC in particular, cannot tolerate somebody saying that the U.K. is not the greatest thing ever. How dare he leave the Royal Ballet?!! These people used a ballet clip where he is supposed to act drunk while at the same time calling him the bad boy of ballet giving the impression to people who know no better that he was drunk on stage. The press has a lot to answer for

It's such a shame how the BBC are portraying him in this interview and he just sits and takes it and answers their questions, Sergei must of been under so much pressure it's not surprising he did 'bad' things to get away from it, he's so talented and sweet yet they just focus on negatives
Why do so many TV presenters sound so naive and inane. They epitomise shallow and he is so interesting and innovative, they can't meet him and run with his ideas.
Brainwashed in your opinion. He has different views from you. The west constantly lies too and this is coming from a latino raised here. I have no vested interested in his politics.

Unbelievable!! One of the greatest ever!
כל הכבוד 👏 על האומץ לעשות את מה שהוא באמת רוצה... כל הכבוד על היושרה שלו.. לכן כשהוא רוקד מרגישים שהוא כולו בתוך הריקוד ללא ספקות
I love the fact that despite living in Great Britain since his early childhood, he retains this thick Russian accent. Now I'm proud of mine😊
a delicious accent is a lovely addendum to a person.. don't EVER try to lose it

They are doing their job as interviewers ~ tough questions along with recognition of his absolute ability and achievement at the Royal Ballet.
