    Director: Adam McKay

During the layoffs they got rid of anyone who told the truth, or even thought about telling the truth. Oh and the reason the big banks couldn't recalculate the derivatives for everyone who shorted the housing market was that the financial model never worked. So basically a movie that doesnt say "bankers are greedy" and thats why this happened. Instead of saying that the government literally made them do it through bad incentives.

What I appreciated, is that there are a lot of actors in this with big roles that we've never seen before, and they're all wonderful. Even the evil super rich guy in the last segment. We've never seen him in anything, and he owns his scene. This is really impressive film work. Ensemble at it's finest. Competes with the smartest HBO scripts. And Bale is amazing.

*sigh* The banks took advantage of a stupid financial situation handed to them by politicians. They were no more greedy than every other American, they just took advantage longer. Tons of people saw the housing collapse coming. When it all collapsed, and the politicians were saying "no-one saw this coming," we are all looking around like "what are they smoking this time?" Next up, the higher education bubble and the stock market over-evaluation. I expect they'll blame those collapses on "human greed" too.

Soon, "underrated" will become the most "overrated" expression on the planet creating a black hole of paradox destroying the entire world.
Seriously, tell me how this movie is underrated. Then when you realise you can't, stop over using that expression and tell your friends to do the same, we can still save the world !

This movie has two things in common with Little Miss Sunshine: 1. They both have Steve Carell. 2. They both won Oscars for their screenplays. Little Miss Sunshine won Original Screenplay and this movie won Adapted Screenplay.

I remember knowing first hand the shady ridiculous garbage going on in mortgage lending before the collapse. I remember buying a house in about 2002 and thinking that some of the realtors I talked to were on crack for trying to get me to buy a house worth 50% more than I could afford and because it was so common, I remember knowing it would all crumble and was NOT surprised when it happened.

I want to see this so bad. I remember walking with my dad in 2002. He told me "our house was just valued over a million dollars. we paid $300k for it 4 years ago". I told him (and these are my words exactly) "it can't go on forever like that". I do well trading stocks for a living.
