There are two types of finance majors in college. Those who idolize The Wolf of Wallstreet and those who idolize The Big Short.
For real
I idolize both. Nothing wrong with that.
You all know, we love TWWS, but big short makes more sense!!

Neither of which have squat on Gordon Gekko.

Thank you for this lol 😝 half the budget went to the wig handlers… picture the Star Trek tribbles episode with a comb 🪮

That was the point! We are talking about finance guys🤣
Every single time I watch this movie, a deep feeling of sadness takes over me. I can't imagine how harder became for normal people making a living. The worst part is that millions of those affected people don't even know why their lives changed.
normal people wanted to own a house and a car that rich people have. You dont get to own a mansion and drive a 7 series when you make 35k a year.
And the bad part is the fix could have been checks payable to the homeowners and banks, banks saved and people still had homes. The way they did it was just greed. Stupid greed.
Get ready to take your second dose of sadness. It's going down as we speak, but worse this time around.
@@livestock9722 Yes it is and the same amount of people do not see it. Going to be worst than the time before as it always is when you kick the can down the road.

Best movie title ever.
It seems to me that people are more interested in the actors, rather than the plot. The main topic of this movie is much more important, but people in the comment section aren't having discussions about it.
Unfortunately I agree. I read the book and enjoyed it. To get this movie to be watchable they needed to get A list actors and so far people seem to be excited like myself. What they will get is something more than just "wow what a great cast" once the movie is out in Dec.
+sakamuras s Is that something you learned from a fucking movie trailer? Do you think things that people say in movies are real?
The dumbass is the one that thinks that movies are where we find facts to base our world views on. sakamuras s
+Mvson that's america for you, but this movie doesn't even seem right, it just looks like they are blaming the banks and not the fed.
The fed is the main source of problem anyways
+Mvson Of course they aren't, they're just looking at the pretty, shiny lights and not caring what goes on around them. Pretty scary.
So this what Michael Scott is up to after Dunder Mifflin lmao
haha Steve Carell is so underrated...but I will always remember him as Michael Scott burning his foot on the George Foreman grill that he left by his bed so that he could wake up to the smell of fresh bacon. HA!
This won only one Oscar? This movie is brilliant, I went to see it twice in the theaters.
+R Feyman Umm - they don't WANT ppl to see this movie! They might wake up! And that's because your country (and mine) is run by an oligarchy! (big banks & corps)
I hate Wall Street. Used to work for them and I got crap all the time because I wouldn't push crappy investments to people who were counting on the money. During the layoffs they got rid of anyone who told the truth, or even thought about telling the truth. Oh and the reason the big banks couldn't recalculate the derivatives for everyone who shorted the housing market was that the financial model never worked. We literally started with answer and backsolved to get the other numbers.
They got 37 Wins and 80 nominations (including other 4 oscars nominations of different categories).

Not one of the best, the best.
@@riahickey9856 nah, you’re right I haven’t seen another one to better describe the situation than “The Big Short” movie. Crazy, how much has happened in 5 years since I wrote this comment.
The main thing is, I’m still alive.
I have not seen a major movie about the 2005 crisis that says this:" the banks were incentivised to sell products to people that they knew couldnt have afforded a house, because it was BACKED by the government because everyone somehow needs to have a home, even if they can't afford one and have bad credit."
So basically a movie that doesnt say "bankers are greedy" and thats why this happened. Instead of saying that the government literally made them do it through bad incentives.

I watched this movie on Netflix while everyone was still required to stay home. Such a masterpiece of a film. The stars are fantastic and Adam McKay is so talented.
It's amazing how comedy actors, actresses and directors are so good doing drama movies or series. The movie was brilliant, and make me understand how the economics work and I don't know a damn thing about that, and it was very depressing throughtout. It's a masterpiece.
Micah Johansson Yes, that’s true. They say that comedy is way harder to do than drama anyway and these guys are fantastic at comedy. I honestly think that this movie is on my Top 10 Movies of the Decade list. They somehow managed to make something that would be considered boring, so interesting. The ending was absolutely mortifying too. Nice to have some people agree with me
can u suggest more best movies?
@Randy White yes or any best movie :))
Movies about financial crisis and corruption are the bomb. Wall Street, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Capitalism: A Love Story, Inside Job, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Too Big to Fail, The Wolf of Wall Street. I love movies like this.
Wolf of Wall Street just didn't seem appealing to me at all.

@@TrequartistaFM I agree there. Margin Call is the other side of The Big Short, told from the perspective inside the big banks.

Nothing like a bunch of millionaires telling us about the downfall of other millionaires.
+Jon Fishsticks At least actors don't pray on the average citizen, sending them into devastating debt and crippling the economy for years to come. And never face any legal repercussions.
+Potato Girl
You're right, Actors just rent out their faces to be used by the 1% to push propaganda movies.
+Jon Fishsticks According to Michael Lewis (the author of The Big Short novel), Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, and Steve Carell all agreed to take significant pay cuts in order to be in the film.
+Jon Fishsticks oh thats totally right, ricky gervais kinda did it at the golden globes and he was hilarious.
+Michael Ashton Of course they did. It's great PR, they still all get back end points, and this movie that otherwise would've cost about $100 mil just for those guys now gets made for about $100 mil, total.
Being young i wasnt aware of the crisis as it happened and didnt feel a personal impact, and i came to the movie and thought it would be a Wolf Of Wall Street type movie, but i was pleasantly surprised by it, it was surprisingly informative and educational but still delighted and kept me interested as much as a Wolf Of Wall Street. Im watching it for a third type as i type this
Dom Gonzales SAME! Same!!! Watching for the third time too lol but same
The Wolf of Wall Street - Dark Edition
+Sahin Düzgün I don't think I agree. Wolf of Wall Street is actually a dark movie. Many people don't realize this as they take all the outlandishness and comedy at face value. I would say this is rather Wolf of Wall Street - Ensemble Cast with Subtle Humor Edition as this bound to have some humor itself as Adam McKay is directing. I would even say Drama Edition before Dark Edition.
+DizzleJay27 Dude, don't name a movie. Ever.

This is a incredibly insightful and very thought-provoking film on how both global banking, and other financial institutions, really operate.
Furthermore you, most definitely, need to watch The Big Short at least twice, to both fully understand and truly appreciate, what is exactly happening throughout the movie.

Watching this film is the rawest emotional experience ever put to screen.
The growing, insurmountable chaos that even the most qualified people in the world are only beginning to understand. Then the rug is pulled out and you're left with this overwhelming, dejected, emptiness, and a creeping, terrifying realization of what just happened.
Even though I knew what was going to happen, I still broke out in a cold sweat as the dominoes began to fall. A brilliant movie.
It's so hard to take Steve Carell seriously. "I love lamp".
+mitch-a-palooza hes an incredibly talented actor man i took him very seriously in this movie
Couldn't agree more. In Foxcatcher he was unnervingly brilliant
yeah he was scary good in foxcatcher
I never saw foxcatcher but he was also great in seeking a friend for the end of the world but this movie suprised me
I don't think he was good in this movie. He's trying so hard to be this hurt, unpleasant character but it makes it difficult to take him seriously. Also his voice and hairstyle is so off. What were they thinking with all these ugly haircuts?
The sound effect of this trailer and how they put it together is downright outrageous!

Indeed brother glad I am young and am seeing it
We are living "The Big Short" again right now.
Really enjoyed this movie, I remember the 2008 crash, it didnt really affect me personally but yeah, it was pretty fucked, I never really knew much details about it till I watched this movie and damn, that was some really fucked up shit those assholes were pulling in Wall Street, I cant believe no one went to jail for that shit, millions of people lost their savings, jobs, houses, and those fucktards got away with it cause we fucking bailed their asses out, and they're doing it again, God help us all.
+Matt Josh I agree--it's amazing that people weren't jailed over what happened. (According to the movie, one person was, but definitely not like what we'd expect!) I think the movie did a really good job at showing how people were affected, too.
+Matt Josh It's completely scary Matt - I had some low life crud guys living in my apartment complex at the time and they all of a sudden were driving around in crazy expensive cars (while oddly still living here in the apartment complex) so it really was puzzling to me. Scum bags - you said it well Matt. I hope something stops them all this time.

Brad pitt for Joel in the last of us???????????
+looneyshadow1 That would be sick, but he was already in World War Z which would be a little too similar to The Last of Us. He's gonna be doing sequels to World War Z too.
+looneyshadow1 I personally don't feel like he is a strong enough actor to pull that off, plus he does not look anything like him.
Calvin Candie I totally disagree about him not being a strong enough actor, you must have not seen his really intense shit.
Kareem Mukayed I have, and I don't think he is a very good intense actor. He is very charismatic and charming, but he never has that internal torment or true darkness that Joel requires. There are better choices.

It’s annoying that this movie really doesn’t address the government’s role in causing this collapse. The bad loans were made due to Clinton’s push to increase homeownership in the 90s.
So when is Adam McKay announcing the next The Big Short based on Melvin Capital vs r/wsb?

+SaketG Have you seen Foxcatcher? He actually does a pretty good job with a serious drama role. It's nice to see him expand as an actor a little
Kevin Stitely Well, in that, he had all sorts of make up, and his voice was different too. here, it's so Michael Scott-esque, you wouldn't be hallucinating if you heard, "that's what she said" somewhere.
SaketG Hmm yeah I suppose so. But I wouldn't attribute it to his acting, more so to him being so recognizable in the office, especially his voice. I think he could pull off a role like this though if he steers away from the Michael Scott mannerisms

Caught it yesterday, after seeing just about everything else good this past year. So impressive...so smartly made. It's a knockout film. I was very entertained by this fresh approach. What I appreciated, is that there are a lot of actors in this with big roles that we've never seen before, and they're all wonderful. Even the evil super rich guy in the last segment. We've never seen him in anything, and he owns his scene. This is really impressive film work. Ensemble at it's finest. Competes with the smartest HBO scripts. And Bale is amazing.

*sigh* The banks took advantage of a stupid financial situation handed to them by politicians. They were no more greedy than every other American, they just took advantage longer. Tons of people saw the housing collapse coming. When it all collapsed, and the politicians were saying "no-one saw this coming," we are all looking around like "what are they smoking this time?" Next up, the higher education bubble and the stock market over-evaluation. I expect they'll blame those collapses on "human greed" too.
+Dwight House Agree. "Greed" is a useful excuse when folks don't want to address the real problems that cause economic bubbles and the business cycle, and instead blame it on rich people.
+Dwight House I'd bet more money on the healthcare industry being the next bubble to burst.

Ehh i think the next bubble is equities.
Zero percent interest rates mean bonds earn next to nothing, commodities are being beaten to a bloody pulp. Americans have been dumping their savings into equities because it's the only investment avenue left. Think about it, the economy is in shambles and the DOW rises to 18000.

This takes place in 2005. Why does everyone look like they're in the 70s?
I want to see this so bad. I remember walking with my dad in 2002. He told me "our house was just valued over a million dollars. we paid $300k for it 4 years ago". I told him (and these are my words exactly) "it can't go on forever like that". I do well trading stocks for a living.
I'm 17 now but I remember losing our house during this crisis, really good movie
This movie was about the housing bubble of 2000's. See you in the part 2 of this movie which would be about Crypto Bubble.
When Plant started the vocals...the chills ran through my entire body:)
