This story would make good script for a horror movie (or video game plot) with some minor changes. Whoever wrote this, could give Hollywood a run for their money! Well done!

Sarah: "You're not staying married to that woman for one second longer!"
Tom: "True. We're staying married for a lot longer than that."
And for the record, I'm a man and I've been doing my own cooking for years.

Extended Aftermath: OP becomes a CEO and her husband becomes an infamous chef. When the families found out, they begin to realize they missed out on a gold mine and were like "Ok, maybe its time to abandoned the traditions". This was especially due to the fact that at one point, there was only a daughter left to inherit the main household, leading to them to abandoned their values to maintain the family.

This is a good one to add to the after story.

that's the sequel - the prequel would be, how this whole main family/branch family came to be - a japanses-like psycho-thriller

As someone that lives in a state where some families think like this.A letter from the outsider daughter-in law would have no weight. In fact what they would call her ungodly behavior may cause a physical retaliation.

They should have kept the setting in Asia or made it European as it doesn’t make much sense in the US as this feudal lord/family heirachy wasn’t established here, not like this anyways. Most people coming over here were escaping that and others who was rewarded land setup a different system then this. This just doesn’t make sense and is very, VERY illegal. I don’t think ultra traditional Mormons act the way this family does. They’re more 1700 and 1800s not feudal Europe during the dark ages.

@@nathansheldahl a whole lot of nutters emigrated to the USA, the land of the free, just to start their own cult that would not be allowed back in the old country !

just to be clear, this type of family dynamic was part of feudal Japan, not so much in Europe, and especially not in the Renaissance period - I have seen time estimates the 1400s/1500s, that are the 15th and 16th century, and the late Middle Ages came to an end with 14th century, that were the 1300s
yes I know, different European countries have different time frames for the beginning and end of their Middle Ages, f.e. Scandinavia has a very short period from the very end of the 8 century (793/Lindisfarne) to the middle of the 11th (1066/Hastings), which coincides with their Viking time, but this is the general time frame within historical science

The family that started the family, like great-grandparents.

That was interesting! The Psychology of Cults, the ‘Group Mentality’, and the method used to ‘Re-Program’ people is fascinating and far-reaching. If you look at some of the biggest cults in the world like the Mormons, they all use such similar strategies and methods attract people and then keep people from leaving.

Doesn't a restriction notice deal with a company not a person?

Depending on where the story took place, a restriction notice could be the same as a restraining order.

There are current “churches” which are actually cults that do this - they isolate their members and if family leaves the “church”, the remaining family members are not supposed to have anything more to do with them. S…ology is very much about this type of control as are some other groups.
