      +Liz Neptune White girls speaking koreans aren't ?
      Or you see black people as different ?

      +Absit Reverentia Vero let me guess, you're one of those "all lives matter" people?? This is a video about black people, let me live!! Paying black girls a compliment on a video about black people and you're off topic af

    • @abeurakadabeura

      Liz Neptune I just find it funny that black people complain about they are seen as different humain beings, but they are the first one who want to see themselves as different when it benefits them.
      I am not the "all lives matter" because everybody could die, I wouldn't mind at all.
      I just don't like this hypocrisy from people...
      Black people in Korea dislike being called differently than whites.. but yourself you call those foreigners in Korea as "Black girls".

    • @LizNeptune
      @LizNeptune 8 ปีที่แล้ว +70

      +Absit Reverentia Vero "I just find it funny that black people blah blah" you are exactly the type of person they're talking about in this video. Making sweeping judgement calls on a entire group of people. GO HOME ROGER. This video is about black PEOPLE. You can see in the video and it says so in the caption and everyone is talking about being black while in Korea. GO AWAY!!!

      +Absit Reverentia Vero my english is not good but i really have to say this. She's just saying that she is inspired by black girls speaking Korean. And that's it, why would you have to react in such a negative way?

      but we initially experienced discrimination in sports and music as well - but like much of what we've had to overcome in US ,we excelled in these arenas even with a boot on our neck - because we excelled so well despite the obstacles placed before us - the dominant pop had to reason why that was - their answer = innate to blackness - so it becomes something not based on skill, not based on cunning...

      뇌인 The World of Noein Come again? History textbooks are full of lies and omissions depending on your source. A lot of what she mentioned is completely ignored or lied about in the books they use for schooling even though the documentation at various town halls usually tells pretty horrific stories.

    LOL I feel with those guys. I grew up in South Africa and I used get jeers from black people all the time. On streets people passing by would call me "Hey, Jackie Chan", or do a Bruce Lee impersonation on me, or make funny Kung Fu / Karate noises, for no reason at all. :) This would tick me off sometimes. Back then I couldn't understand why the heck an intelligent being would make fun of himself in such a demeaning manner. But now I get it. They'd never met an Asian like me and their only source of knowledge about Asia was those Jackie Chan / Bruce Lee movies. So the media fed them this stereotype that all Asians do martial arts.
    It's interesting to see that more or less the same thing is happening to those black people living in Korea. :P

    I'm black and I really love Korean culture especially the Joseon period and the cultural dresses. So I would really love to visit Korea and learn more about it and I also love kpop and kdramas too. But when people generalise it puts me off sometimes. I think people shouldn't judge a whole people because of the pigment in their skin

      Marky Mark Don’t use statistics as that still represents a minority of the race.And even then it’s just their crimes are more scrutinised in media like the big fight in Korea ,people should not base their opinions on media anyway.It just causes a lot of unnecessary hurt.

    Haha a Korean student at my school actually stopped me while I was walking to class and asked why I was always looking angrily at trees and ground. So I told her I was studying Biology as my major and I am always looking hard for some little critter to identify. I never realized I looked angry when I was looking around. She laughed a lot when I told her that. I guess it surprised her that I wasn't angry. She also said I seemed very nice after getting to know me. When I think hard about something I tend to look like I am angry but in reality I am quite shy towards strangers and immerse my self in animals and plants.

    I think the statement about black people being from different places is ( shoukd be so obvious) but i think people forget.I'm mixed girl living in london and i probably have a completely different life to a girl living in atlanta or germany or whatever. Everyones lives are completely different, why should it then be assumed that all black people are the same.

    • @prcpree5659

      I am a mixed girl from London too lol - I have been to Seoul twice and regardless of being mixed and from London most of them only know Africa/America for having black/brown people. I once explained to a guy my ethnicity(black & indian Jamaican and white British) and he said "Impossible :-0 ....." looool. I was taken back a little and honestly a little hurt, but then I realized they aren't educated on black or darker complexioned people and people who are mixed race. They(Most) simply don't know the difference.

    I personally (As a Korean-American) think that Black people are great people. They tend to we well-cultured, extremely hospitable, and generally sociable. Musically, culturally, I just think Koreans and Blacks just go well together. I highly recommend more African-Americans or any person of black descent think about moving to Korea. I feel as if they will integrate faster and better than white foreigners and it is pretty obvious they won't experience the systemic "KKK Police War on Drugs" type racism in Korea or even Japan.

    • @crystaljones9700
      @crystaljones9700 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I’m a black American female and I returned from Seoul in mid May of 2019 after staying there for two weeks. I absolutely loved it! I took the time to learn some basic Korean, cultural etiquette, and Hangul before I traveled there and had nothing but positive experiences when interacting with Koreans. I was a little caught off guard by the fact that I didn’t have the same positivity from black people when I would encounter them but I just figure I didn’t run into the right black people. I traveled solo and had so much fun! I didn’t get harassed, felt completely safe walking around alone at night, never had anyone following me around in a store (which happens all the time in the USA), etc. People would stare at me and I was typically the only black person in the subway car, or touring various places, in restaurants, etc., but usually the minute I smiled and said hello the stares turned into smiles and greetings, offering help if I was trying to find a location, etc. So my experienced made me realize that to break the stereotype sometimes required that I show that I was friendly and happy (I guess approachable is the word) and after that it seemed like people kept trying to adopt me. I’m talking from the moment I got on the plane to fly to Incheon, throughout my stay in an apartment in Seoul and traveling around the entire city, through the return flight home. Then I got back home and realized how much happier and safer I felt there than back here in the USA. Was kind of sad to realize it.

      @user-qj7hh5xp8v 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually, it's because of this reason that I'm deciding to move to Korea next year. Despite all of the cons, life in America is much tougher I think for Black people. And I really think Korean and Black people have a similar mindset

    • @crystaljones9700
      @crystaljones9700 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@user-qj7hh5xp8v Honestly, I think historically Koreans would be/are shocked to realize that the black American experience with slavery and the ramifications from that strongly mirror what they experienced during Korea's Japanese occupation. The major difference being that once the occupation ended, they got their country back, versus them being completely uprooted, transported to a foreign land, and then being forced to assimilate and forget their culture for survival. They definitely have that benefit and seeing it and experiencing it in person is both amazing, eye opening, and makes you realize what you actually missed out on in your own history and culture. I had the chance to explain that perspective to some South Koreans and when I did you could see how much that truth hit them because it was something that they could understand and relate to. The idea of what would have happened if they had been taken away, forced to forget or deny and never able to come back. The closest they have to that would be North Koreans that escape to the South, but they at least have the common language. They have different dialect and education, but similar culture, etc.
      Don't get me wrong, I'm American, and I'm not in la la land. There is no way I'm going to "reconnect" with my root realistically. That genetic testing stuff to identify your tribal roots is a bunch of crap because unless you come from an area that has historically only had a single tribe in it thoughout all time, you can't ever truly identify your roots. Most tribes were nomadic and many would intermarry in an effort to build alliances. Unless you are lucky enough to have a family that managed to hold onto some of that historical knowledge through the generations and pass it on, it's lost. I don't have that benefit. Basically any cultural connection is lost at this point which is sad, but what can be done is to simply embrace what we have and do know and build upon it now to create a future culture and legacy to pass on.
      Being in South Korea was the one time when I found that people focused less on the color of my skin and more on who I was as a person. I won't lie, once they learned what my profession was, and I only shared it when specifically asked because I know that I don't fit the stereotype of what most people expect a person in my profession to look like or my personality to be like, the respect increased from there because they were surprised I was being so respectful to them when they felt like they were supposed to be more respectful to me. I explained to them no. I'm in your country as a visitor so I have no problem being respectful to you and your culture and just take everything surrounding me in quietly.
      Definitely go! Embrace the culture, language, people, food and experience. Will there be some not so great people, sure, that's the case in every country. I can honestly say I only ran into not so great people that looked like me. And truthfully I need to keep that thought in check because maybe the black people I saw didn't speak English! Maybe they were African, French, etc., and were unfriendly because they knew they couldn't communicate after hearing me speak English or hangul to someone next to me. See what I mean, just constantly remind yourself to keep an open mind.

    영상의 의도 자체가 참 좋은 취지였다고 생각합니다. 한국인들의 오해, 그리고 한국에 있는 흑인분들이 받는 오해를 조금이나마 이해할 수 있는 영상이라 생각합니다.
    한국인들이 백인을 제외한 다른 인종들에 대한 차별이 상당히 심한 편입니다. 이런 부분들은 스스로 반성하고 고쳐 나가야 합니다!!!
    그리고 영상에서도 미디어의 대한 지적이 많았는데, 미디어의 역할이 상당히 중요하다고 생각합니다.
    예를들어 중국 관련된 영상들이나 뉴스 보면은 안좋은 부분들만 많이 나옵니다. 대체 이런 이유가 뭘까요!? 안좋은 부분이 나오면 그 부분에 대한 자세한 설명은 없고 비난하기 일색입니다.
    서로 이해하고 존중해주는 게 가장 중요한 방법이라 생각합니다.

Though most people are unused to/uneducated on anything that's not "African American" which in itself is incorrect to say unless youre referring to a person born, or descendent of parents from Africa who live in America.

    I think one of the reason why most of koreans have a lot of stubborn stereotypes for black is that we had not been educated about racism or understanding towards various races enough because we were like "단일민족". I think our government need to make some curriculums about racism in Korea. We are not anymore "단일민족".

    In France, there are stereotypes too but it's more like "All black people like chicken" "all black people know how to be good vibes" ("tous les noirs savent s'ambiancer, ils s'ambiancent sur tout !") etc etc.... And all black people are intimitading
    Like, hey, I'm black, I don't sing bc I suck ass at that, I'm black and I'm super shy so who's gonna start a party over anything, I'm black and I don't get angry... Ok, a little bit but it's because people irritate me, that's how I am, etc but NOT all black are like that
    We don't all dance like Beyoncé, we don't all sing like Steve Wonder, and we don't easily get mad...
    But, there's a nice thing I really like about all of this, it's that in France, all of these stereotypes became more like humour like my friends would tell "Nice, let's make a remix for the philosophy lesson bc it sucks and since you're black, you know you can do that" or "Hey, why aren't you dancing... I mean come on Nice, you're black"... And we do it with arabs as well, portugeses, chineses, americans, gays, muslims... Everyone. Because that's just how our generation decided to deal with these stereotypes.
    I really believe that in Korean, soon enough, it will be the same... We just need them to get use of foreiners, being black or not, because even if they're getting use to us, they still have their ways
    Bref, fallait que je parles mddrr
    (sorry for my bad english, I'm french as you saw it lol all the love)

    i love this vedio. Having diversity is always a good thing. I wish stereotypes or biases against any race or ethnic group would disappear in Korea. 한국에서 인종차별이나 편견같은게 사라져서 진정한 다문화 사회가 되기를 ㅎㅎ

    I really like this video. You interviewed some smart people. The girl with the bow was my favorite. I was glad to see you touched on some topics pertaining to us, although it only scratched the surface. But yes the negative, narrow minded, pigeonholed view of Blacks in Korea (and all around the world even) holds me back from wanting to travel and integrate with other cultures.

    This video is so awesome!! A lot a people can sweep taking about race under the rug, because it uncomfortable, but we need people who aren't afraid to ask questions (in a non-offensive tone and/or way). Ignorance, the lack of understanding, and the lack of communication breeds stereotypes and discrimination. Thank you for this video!!

    Thank you for sharing this video. I think any opportunity to break barriers and increase awareness about another culture is a wonderful thing. I am a Black woman who is studying Korean because I appreciate the culture and love the language. Asking questions and having an open mind is vital to reducing racism. As human beings, we have far more in common than we have differences.

    it surprised me about the video of the fight in itaewon. The part that surprised me was that people from other countries came to Korea and broke out a big fight. This is to every country and race. I think that if u go to another country u should respect it and try to behave ur self. Correct me if im wrong cuz that was what I thought during that part

      christian bradley 나도 그래 ~ I see absolutely no differences. People freak out when I say aside from the local delicacies, I basically grew up eating Korean food too. Trade the seaweed for collards or kale. And Seoul? Basically, NYC (Queens). I didn’t experience any racism or discrimination until I tried to do business in Korean HipHop. 🙄 Other than that, I’m happy with my 3 year business relationship with Korea.
