- The Fiat Tipo was tested under Euro NCAP’s dual rating system, which allows two star ratings for the same vehicle: a base rating which indicates the safety of the car fitted only with standard safety equipment, and, if the manufacturer wishes, a second rating for the car fitted with an optional ‘safety pack’ that is offered on all versions, is available in all markets and sold in significant numbers. The dual rating lets consumers see the improvement in safety which can be achieved by the additional crash avoidance equipment.
The Fiat Tipo’s safety pack “Pack Safety” includes a Forward Collision Warning system with Auto-Brake that functions at both low and high speeds, but has not been designed to mitigate pedestrian crashes. Euro NCAP’s Secretary General Michiel van Ratingen says: “The Tipo is marketed as a functional car which maximizes value for money. However, to maximise safety, and to bring the car up to the protection levels offered by its biggest rivals in this segment, consumers should not pass over the safety pack.”
AEB Pedestrian was introduced earlier this year. These systems are able to act in more challenging situations where pedestrians are at risk of being run over.

Good for a low budget car, at least the safety equipment engage on time and looks like non of the passengers got hurt

These new NCAP star ratings are misleading as formerly only the occupants passive safety was rated and it really showed how well the car can protect You in an accident. Nowdays a car can get 0 stars even with the best passive protection when it does not have all the systems - which sucks. Not that the active safety shouldn't be rated, rather the final score should be separate for every field tested, that imho would be better for the buyer.

Good result for a Low Budget Car. The safety Pack ist cheap only 500€! So 4 Stars is good.
In the old euroncap it would have achieved 4 or 5 stars but in the new noe they value also the seatbelts and pretensioners and pedestrians, they are very exigent, for that it only achieved 3. The pole also was OK but not very good.

FIAT shouldn’t economise on safety. The car appears to stand up to the crash tests very well with good structural integrity.
So only 3 stars? this car deserves 5 stars at least! my '08 GP had 5 stars at crash tests check that out.

Why should it? Safety Pack comes with a speed limiter, automatic emergency braking and an adaptive feature for the cruise control. Name one car of similar size and price that has those features as standard.

Astra is definitely not the same price range. It's 30% more expensive.
spavatch But if they offered as standard the car would have even more for a low price and more people would think in the Tipo as a safer car and would be a bigger choice.

It's impressive that Dacia got 2 stars, it structurally seems much more fragile than Tipo (which is slightly underrated compared to more celebrated models performing way worse).

Yes, the same nonsense with Punto with 0 stars. The car is still (it's structure) very safe comparing to recent models in it's class, but lack of few electronic gimmicks devaluates it's safety ratings to ZERO.
Yeah i agree, but check the EuroNCap website and then you see that other things count like functional systems, Integrated child-seat (that is the biggest thing the Tipo is missing for new families) and pre-tensors, etc...
I also think the Tipo should diserve better and i've been "investigating" and some things don't make any sense in EuroNCap resourses. For example: Fiat Tipo vs Citroen DS3 2017 / look at the results and the % / in the overall the Tipo has more 39% and the Tipo had 229/400 (more than half) and the DS3 had 190/400 (less than half). Some people say brands "buy" their grades but i'm not sure about that. The thing that confuses me most is why and how the front mirrors (driver and passanger) leave the place and appear in case of they being open? Are they bad positioned or something like that? People can actually injury themselves in the glass (the top of it).

don't like the look of those windows that came out of the door on impact. It looks pretty dangerous for it to come out like that when crashing
I saw 4 star audi crash much worse then this fiat, and I'm not saying this because I'm italian, and Fiat (FCA) is not an italian car manufacture. It deserve 4 star

Als Tipo fahrer tut es mir in der Seele weh sowas zu sehen. Aber die 3 Sterne verstehe ich hier nicht. Der Fahrer wurde nicht getötet und der Schutz wurde gegeben. 4 Sterne gibt man aber wieder nur Deutschen ab 30K € Autos... Absolut schlecht Bewertet.

It's (rules) changing constantly. Cars which were awarded 5 stars just few years ago today would score maybe 3 or nothing. That doesn't mean they are not safe anymore.
Sergiu Gabriel sorry but it's the opposite - European trucks are safer than the American ones. Don't get wrong because of the size, size doesn't matter, what matter is the stucture componentes and assistant tecnology. The safety patterns are higher in European trucks.

Çoğu coupe arabalara bakarsanız ancak o kadar yıldız alabiliyorlar o da tasarımlarından ötürü. Egea'ya gelirsek, koruma kabini iyi durumda kalmış. Koruma sistemi olarak eksik kalmış bir araba. Standart versiyonunda 4 airbag olan bir arabaya ben de 3 yıldız verirdim.

ItsSilly If I had paid 500€ for a system that should prevent or at least reduce crash speed, I would expect it to be at least slightly functioning. But no - of course it isn't working, it is a FIAT! What's the point of having AEB if it's absolutely useless? Check out VW Up's AEB and you'll see if works perfectly for just 250€. And the crash protection itself is nothing special - even a 2001 Renault Laguna had received more points for safety than this hideous crapwagon

CoreTech951 Actually AEB on Fiat Panda worked far better than it did on the 2018 Ford Fiesta and I’m sure there are many other car makers that make vehicles with the same problem

Who is rich ? Who is poor? All are not bright enough to go to Oxford / Cambridge to earn millions $ for their lifestyle,others also can enjoy with these kind of good cars, for them it's a luxury. Let us think positively. In my opinion, all cars are good,only a matter of choice ( based on a budget).
