    Nice car! One day I'll own one. If they were easier to come by here in America, I would have already bought one.

    Can't beat the old mini, yours is a beautiful example, if I was after a mini I have that colour and everything,I've had two minis a Cooper lookalike and a 30 year one in cherry red with the twin carbs.

    I am looking to purchase a classic mini here in America. I've landed on a 1972 innocenti model. It looks like it's in great condition, no rust and such. It has a 998cc engine. Do you have any advice for me before purchasing? I've never owned a classic car but I fell in love after watching Italian Job. I hope the ride is not too bumpy. Everyone seems to think it's really fun so I expect I'll have a great time driving it once I get past the stick shift learning curve! Congrats on your new car.

      @MrDJC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kathryn Holland Official I would just make sure that all the bodywork is solid and also that it’s protected using rustproofing. You will love driving it. The ride won’t be as bumpy as mine due to the different suspension that’s on the car. It will by no means be comfy but it’s never annoying. In terms of the engine just make sure that’s it’s running on all four cylinders and check to see if the oil has been changed recently. Also when test driving make sure it doesn’t pull to the left or right and that it brakes in a straight line. Apart from that enjoy it and I can assure you it is an awesome driving experience! Thanks for subscribing. Ps send me a picture.

    Very nice. I want a classic Mini too. It must be quite difficult that you pay for two cars at your age...the Suzuki and the Mini...guess your insurance bill monthly is quite hefty...

    mate, how much did u pay for the car and what about the insurance then? I'm 19 and is looking for my first car(as a uni student and massive petrolhead). Do you think this is a good choice?

    • @MrDJC
      @MrDJC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Yin Cheung Lau lets just say it was a four figure sum. The insurance was around £1,100, but that varies depending on different circumstances. If I was looking for my first car I would definitely stick to a 998cc as the insurance will be cheaper. Also I would look for a 80s model as surprisingly they were better built than my model year.

    • @CheekyCultured
      @CheekyCultured 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, that's quite an amount of money. Are the 80s models reliable by any chance? I wanna use mine as a daily and to avoid crazy insurance(but still want some fun with it, that's why I'm thinking about classic cars) :)

    • @MrDJC
      @MrDJC  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Yin Cheung Lau well they are less complicated as they are carburettor models and not injection model like mine is. This means that you can work on them easily and can pretty much fix any problems as they are fairly straightforward. I will tell you that insurance won't be cheap as they aren't the safest cars on the road and because it will be you r first car so you won't have any no claims bonus yet. However you can still have a lot of fun with a 998cc as you can with a 1275cc.

    • @CheekyCultured
      @CheekyCultured 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      is it cheap on parts and petrol? Cos I'm on a budget of around £5000. Would it be possible for me to get a decent one(as you said a 998cc) and get it insured?

    • @MrDJC
      @MrDJC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Yin Cheung Lau parts are fairly cheap and easy to replace. I would say that you could get a decent one for around £5000. Here's one: www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201707127308374?model=MINI&postcode=s66fh&advertising-location=at_cars&sort=price-asc&radius=1501&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&make=ROVER&page=2 I would say make sure the body work is solid, and the oily bits are easy to sort out. The one listed is on for £4,500 and you could put at least the spare £500 towards insurance. I will be doing a video on why I bought my mini and also some tips about how to buy the right mini.

    • @MrDJC
      @MrDJC  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ZoovuTV I would look on car and classic or check out Cambridge Mini Works where I bought mine from. Otherwise check out pistonheads and Autotrader

    • @massmouth
      @massmouth 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Be very careful of rust and more rust no matter how good it looks. Get underneath and have a poke around. Unless you are a good welder have a decent enough paint shop the biggest expense in owning one of these is body work and getting it done 'properly.' All these cars are old now so ignore the mileage as the engine is cheap to work on and look for money spent on new panels, sills etc. I speak from experience. I have a 2000 Cooper Sport. 6k on full respray, front panels, sills replaced and doors re-skimmed. S works upgrade 2k but cost more as new head has needed to be re-skimmed several times and valves replaced. Gearbox rebuild as Cooper Sports ones are shit 1k. Be prepared for ongoing expense to keep it good. When parts fail get the best out there as there as peeps are still making great after market products to extend it's life such as bigger flow radiator, silicone hoses , better water pumps.
      Is it worth it. YES.

      @zoovutv5244 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok thanks i will check it out!

    • @zoovutv5244
      @zoovutv5244 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ok, thank you for your reply it was very helpful, and i will definitely be careful when buying and thoroughly check for rust. Just curious, how much did your mini cost?

    • @massmouth
      @massmouth 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought my last one 15 years ago which I still have and it cost £8,500 but was nearly new and a Cooper Sport which you expect to pay more for. Got it from www.londonmini.com/ who still have a knack of finding good examples though not cheap. I have stuck with it as I know the history which is another big thing to watch out for. Too many peeps mess around with these cars not knowing what they are doing if you are going Autotrader, Ebay route. If I was buying now unless you know what you are looking for or have the money for someone like London Mine check the local ads for a 'genuine' unmodified Mini still being driven carefully around by some local Mum, Granny or Aunt. They are out there. Well hope this helps in some way. They are great fun to drive but can be a money pit if you get the wrong one.
