Oh my gosh, thank you! My now 37 year and 33 year olds listened to this when they were little and I’ve been searching for this so that my grandchildren can enjoy this as well!
...YES! I FOUND IT! THIS IS MY CHILDHOOD SCHOOL BOOK I WAS LOOKING FOR! Thank you SO much. The Black Cat poem in this is my favorite, especially the way it was read.
My sister and I had this book and record. Our mom bought it from the scholastic reader from school. We listen to it every year and now I read it to my children. The last song I sing to with MY girls year round! We love this book❤️
5:52- I loved this as a kid; there is such an innocence with fall/halloween that i look forward to every year-- including things like bobbing for apples/apple picking/leaf peeping-- I love it more every year. Thank you so much for uploading this slice of history/nostalgia. Happy Halloween, everyone!
My favorite Halloween book when I was a child. Love the illustrations. We still sing these songs 25 years later.Would love to find a copy of this book to read to my little girl.
The nostalgia!!😍😍🎃 My favorite childhood poem book/ cassette!! “Countdown” used to scare me to death lol! Great reads by Alice Playen as well! That last song hits me in aaaaaall the feels... all of the yummy autumn Halloween night with family vibes. 🧡🖤🧡 Thanks so much for sharing this!
So happy to find this on TH-cam! I send it to my sons every Halloween ( even if they are 37 and 43) because it was our favorite Halloween Tape and this our favorite song
Here's something weird. This story was read to my class decades ago and I hadn't heard of it since but now I'm hearing it - I wish they had the illustrations to go with it - and I remember it, maybe not all the details but I do remember this book, especially the ghost count-down and the goblin in the tree.
It’s my favourite!!! My original book was read so much that the binding is worn out. Cassette still works. I ordered another copy of the original, as I always want this in my life. Original artwork is the best, there is a newer version, but it’s just not the same. Hallowe’en!
My favorite Halloween book as a kid and till this day. Every year on the first day of October, just 3 months closer. So much happy memories especially in my elementary school taking bathroom breaks just to sneak to the school library to listen to the tape over and over again. I hit the cassette tape and the original book. Now hoping to pass it on to my niece with all this technology that it will bring the joyful experience I had before technology took over. It made me really happy reading people's comments about this wonderful book. Happy still have it's trick or treat.
This book and the tape shaped my memories of Halloween as a kid. My siblings and I know every word to this day! We still sing the songs together. Thank you for posting! Just ordered the book so now I listen and follow along in the book. 🎃
I used to read that to my oldest son when he was little. Still know some of these by heart after all these years! He's still super into Halloween as an adult.
My favorite Halloween book growing up with the cassette tape to listen along. I remembered going to bathroom breaks and instead went to the library to check out phenomenon books...lol Wow, I missed those great times. Halloween is what I was looking forward to every time of the year. I just wished they never closed down my old elementary school in Lakewood California " Monroe elementary school ".
My favorite Halloween book as a little kid even till this day. So much memory as a kid making excuses to used the restroom but instead go to the school library and would check the book and audio tape. Yes audio tape which have disappeared forever..lol I would listen and read this book over and over again. Especially when it's the month of October and yes it was my favorite holiday of the year. I just so happy that I own one of the original book and tape.
My daddy used to read this to me as long as I can remember, and I literally wore the book out until it fell apart. I forgot about it for years, though I had the poems memorized. I decided to look it up and found it again, and now I read it out loud to my classes every year.
Oh my gosh I remember listening to this when I was in the third grade when we were when we used to listen to this with our heads down and you know the teacher would turn the lights
I remember finding when I was kid this book in an old library in my city, and loved it and the illustrator’s work since. Especially the ending poem, its a tradition to hear it when Halloween day ends. 👻🎃 see you next year Halloween. 👋

The green goblin used to scare me. You need to see the picture of it.
Same! I finally found it. Always knew this was in my memory, but never looked into finding it
I was telling my parents about it 🤣
Best days ever

I have the book but lost the record. Thank you for putting this up. Joy!!!
This book was really creepy as a child. I'm 26 now and it still gives me the creeps.
The book and the audio cassette verison shown above. There was a certain je ne sais quoi about it. Extremely well done.

Does anyone know who does the other voices besides Jack Prelutsky???
Alice Playten ☺️
Is this recording from a record? The noise sounds definitely like a record but I thought it was only on cassette? Any info from anyone on this?
