The Maintenance of the Aquarium and the Things to look for to keep the Tank and inhabitants healthy, is the most terrifying thing to me. Also probably the reason i keep postponing it. I Hope you deep dive in to these Topics. Love your work!!
This Complete Aquascaping Beginners Guide is amazing! The step-by-step instructions and detailed tips make it so easy to understand and follow. It’s perfect for anyone looking to create a stunning underwater landscape. Great work
I am using both filters. The Oase default Media was replaced with seachem matrix, The SuperFish Aquaflow 200 is actually really surprising. It does a great job. The Dennerle Heater needs a decent flow to not overheat, so i would place it somewhere else.
So happy to see how far you’ve come MJ! Followed your journey when you only posted Instagram photos of your iconic aquarium shelve several years back till now. Love your content, practical and keeping it simple! 😁
Great video. Great information. I like the fact that you selected the Chihiros B light as the budget light. It shows that there are good quality lower cost lights from high-end light manufacturers that can grow plants. Their quality, even at the lower end are far superior to the cheap lights that beginners tend to run to.
Love your videos and use them for reference starting my new aquarium. I bought the Chihiros B light for my new 20 gallon tank. I love the app that it came with. I use the app for my maintenance schedule as well . I added the hanging kit and the shade kit. All of my plants are growing really well. I’m also using CO2. Almost one month in without fish since I’m still cycling my tank. I think I’m getting close to being able to add fish since ammonia levels are at .25ppm. Hopefully will hit 0ppm soon.
Great series! Couple of questions/statements- 1. Why not buy a HOB Filter instead of that ugly internal filter, could get it for the same rate. 2. No leveling foams for these aquariums? 3. Did they ship the CO2 Cylinder prefilled?!??!
If you want to remove the glue residue from the "ugly sticker," make a thick paste of bakingsoda and oil from the kitchen. Rub it on, let it sit a moment, and clean of. This leaves a scratch free result and also works on plastic. 😊
There are two things that bother me with the Superfish internal filters: They always come with active carbon inside, but that can be easily replaced with any preferred media. They also block up quickly at some point requiring cleaning up often.
Hi Mark. Happy New Year! Love this series☺️ I have questions. You put an outlet extension in the cabinet next to the canister filter. Is there ever a worry about water getting into the plugs? Also are you using regular glass cleaner to clean the outside of the tanks? I always thought we weren't supposed to but it never made sense to me about why that was. Thank you!
Not really worried about water getting in to the plugs :) And yes just regular glass cleaner! When using it on a tank with water in it, I do make sure to spray it on a paper towel first, so the ''mist'' doesn't go in the water.
I’m currently setting up a UNS 40C as a little neocaridina shrimp setup. As it’s an odd size, what light would you recommend? I’m torn between using a spot light setup, or a light bar.
Would you say the chihiros b series is a lower budget light compared to the A2 series light? Even though b series has wrgb while A2 series has just white light?
Mj I’m absolutely loving these episodes where’s the best place to buy hardscape from as all my local store (I’m in the uk) have barely anything and I don’t have a clue how to find a piece I like Any tips❤
Ive got the Twinstar 600EA on my fluval roma 125 and have experienced it getting extremely hot on the top casing, is that the same for you? mines been like this from the start cant tell if its faulty or if its supposed to be like that
Hey mj, waar heb je die grijze flexibele tubeslangen vandaan? Ik heb dezelfde dennerle bak gekocht maar wil echt niet weer aan die lelijke groene eheim slangen denken
I wish you wouldn't keep on talking the expensive tank up and the cheap tank down. If this is supposed to be a showcase of the benefits of both options, you should show how to get the best out of both and show the highlights instead of comparing them. For instance, using a HOB filter on the cheap tank would give more space in the tank and make the hardware less visible. Putting the tank in a warmer room would avoid the need for a heater entirely. And the light looks great compared to other cheap options, I see hardly anything wrong with it other than personal taste and potentially lack of full-spectrum light (arguably not necessary anyways)
Can you still make a good aquascape with a tank with a lid? Trying to convince my partner to let me give it a go but she's only going to let me have a tank with a lid due to the cat 🤣
Not really. Any tank will need a filter and light. If you live where you have winter you'll need a heater. The high tech adds the CO2 because that's what makes it high tech. This is the minimum.

I am really enjoying this series. It’s great to see step by step both in stuff I also do and techniques I am still building up the courage to take on.

Dry start method is waaaay better in my opinion😄
Thank you for putting all this together! This is exactly where I am at and so helpful to have.
If you started 2025 with all this content already, I predict a crazy year. 👍
Excellent vidéo as usual. You re right about the hose of the oase. Too hard… i ll try with yours and lillypipes.
Wasn't expecting episode 2 to come out so quick. Can't wait for the rest 👍
So happy to see how far you’ve come MJ!

Thanks for sticking around :)
Really nice ! Thank you so much MJ for sharing your expertise with this step by step tutorial serie 👍
I'm about to set up a low tech, planted, 75L long peninsula, and I'm excited for episode 3.
Another awesome budget friendly light is the hygger series. I have 2 of them and i love them both!
So excited for this series MJ. And also happy new year
Nice first step

Nice ! I hope you will show us how you manage the algea issue (if there is one) in future episodes !
Yes please esp thread and hair algae for low tech
Theres a playlist how to manage algae
Enjoying this series already, excited to see the rest 👍🏽
Thank you for the next episode MJ!
Nice video and great info! For sure going to Watch it again when starting up myself
i love to watch videos which don't promote their sponsor's products. so a like to this one.
Love these new guides

Mj do a q/a
How long will the 500gr CO2 canister last? And besides looks, what makes the twin star light so much better?
There are two things that bother me with the Superfish internal filters: They always come with active carbon inside, but that can be easily replaced with any preferred media. They also block up quickly at some point requiring cleaning up often.
Hi MJ! Don't you use a drop checker and bubble counter?
Hi Mark. Happy New Year! Love this series☺️ I have questions. You put an outlet extension in the cabinet next to the canister filter. Is there ever a worry about water getting into the plugs? @ awesome! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Greatly appreciated
I would personally go for the HOB filter for the low tech cos it wouldn’t take space inside
Also could have been an option yes!
What is your opinion on glass in/out flow vs stainless steel?
I have previously used glass, but I felt there was too much cleaning involved.
I’m currently setting up a UNS 40C as a little neocaridina shrimp setup. As it’s an odd size, what light would you recommend? I’m torn between using a spot light setup, or a light bar.
heb de 200 serie van het Oas filter maar wat een gedoe om het open te maken. Heb nu al 2 keer een kapotte klem gehad.
Nog geen last van gehad 😁
Would you say the chihiros b series is a lower budget light compared to the A2 series light?
Even though b series has wrgb while A2 series has just white light?
How long BBA life in aquarium,in my setup there is a more than 6 months stuck on rock
Mj I’m absolutely loving these episodes where’s the best place to buy hardscape from as all my local store (I’m in the uk) have barely anything and I don’t have a clue how to find a piece I like
Any tips❤
In the UK I only know Aquarium gardens or Horizon aquatics, I don't know where you live, but those shops are worth a trip
@@MJAquascapingyes I would love to visit them is there anywhere online that you know of
Thanks for the help😄
@ they both have online shops as well 🤣
@ yes true thanks🤣
Where do you refill the co2 bottle?
I have a ''guy'' near me who does refills in his garage, but you can get refills in fish shops or ask a brewery
I thought the hyperspot was your fav light
For big tanks yes definitely 👍
why is it when i use a check valve my co2 won't come out? when i remove it the co2 comes out easily. i use pressurized co2.
Your working pressure is too low. If you use a regulator, you need to increase the main knob pressure by turning clockwise.
Also make sure the check valve is placed in the right direction :)
Ive got the Twinstar 600EA on my fluval roma 125 and have experienced it getting extremely hot on the top casing, is that the same for you? mines been like this from the start cant tell if its faulty or if its supposed to be like that
Is it the EA series 3 or 4? I think I had the same with the 3
@@MJAquascaping Its the 600EA IV

Yes definitely! Actually these rimless tanks do come with a glass lid
4th comment 93rd view😭😭
That's a *lot* of equipment for a "beginner" setup.
It’s literally a filter, co2 system and a light
Man discovers aquariums require equipment
Its for aquascaping, not regular aquariums for breeading or simple fishkeeping.
Not really. Any tank will need a filter and light. If you live where you have winter you'll need a heater. The high tech adds the CO2 because that's what makes it high tech. This is the minimum.
😅I don't think so
A low tech beginner aquarium also need filter, heater ,
And
If u r making a planted one then u need a good light also😊
