  • A very nice MCW Metrobus Mk2 with little rattle, comfy semi-coach seats and perfectly smooth ride. The 4-speed Voith D854.2 gearbox, especially when at overdrive, creates a harmonious whine which makes the ride even more enjoyable.
    Thank you for watching!

3:38 the downshift sounds absolutely mighty here, followed by the melodic shift up, then the whistling brake sound - the sound is just as gorgeous as I remember

Within seconds, that distinctive Metrobus engine/gear change soundtrack. Cue 😊

This is the sound of my youth, getting the number 11 from six ways down to villa park when we were playing at home. Always hoped that the driver would go as fast as he could as I loved the whining noise from the engine. Would love to get back on one of these again

It sounds so different to an Olympian and a Dominator. The engine and gearbox layout and acoustics give it its distinct sound. Deafening but sounds great.

Eventually it goes into 4th at 2.29. Most 4 speed Metrobuses clunk when going into 4th.

Very nicely captured. Superb gearbox whine - a big smile hits my face when she clunks into 4th gear. I remember how quiet these were if you sat upstairs, the coach seats were very good at soaking up the noise but they did obscure your view out.

I always liked to sit downstairs to listen to the engine in its full glory!

Love my mark 1s with the asymmetrical windscreen but the Mark 2 had a nice clean looking front to it.

One would very occasionally come across these seated buses in London, once in a blue moon

I could swear that WMT had a few single deck Leyland National and Lynxs as Timesavers back in the day.

Some of the OOX-R & TVP-S Nationals were painted into the timesaver livery those delivered as Dual Purpose not sure of fleet numbers though. No Lynxes were painted but 20 I think it was did have coach seats fitted

I remember the timesaver than ran down the Bristol road. It was either the 966 or the 366.

    • @Squiz1971

Neither would of been the 963 then 964 both Gannow to Brum

Rode this baby from the museum to Maypole & at the end of WMT happy hour rode her back to Wythall again from the Maypole stop sounding as good in the flesh as she does on the 2 video's of 2912 on here, this one & Trident4370's too. In fact I am on this ride at the start as we switched to 2989 at the Maypole

Sheffield had these models as the 'Fastline' brand. Very smooth ride, but not sure if that was the suspension or just the plush seats. SYPTE really spoiled us back then.

The seats really make a difference, though the suspension of Metrobus itself is pretty good, a bit bouncy but will never torture you spine.

Agreed, we had mk1 and 2 new from 1980 to 1984. Occasionally the express buses would operate the X32 from Sheffield to Leeds which was a fab experience up the M1.

Use to go to Coventry on the 900 last bus 11pm every night bus driver would go faster

Yes and the 900 had those seats, whereas the other routes typically had much more basic seats. I used to go from Pool Meadow to Birmingham by the Bull Ring on those all the time, via the airport. I love the sound of those MCW Metrobuses I'd love to go back on one if there's any around on open days anywhere.
