I had never heard of her before because I'm an almost 60 year old white suburban housewife. Yet even though I'm white, I've suffered much the same discrimination because I was poor. Don't get me wrong, simply being white was an advantage that she was NEVER given.
People at all ages should listen to her reading of her poems. Watching her performing her poem during the Biden inauguration was like breathing fresh of air. Just amazing!!!!
Oh my God, I'm SO BLOWN away by this woman, this poet and artist. Living in Europe I must admit that I've only just now discovered her and like so many others am looking for everything available on-line that features her. Her Inauguration address moved me to tears, I have never felt such emotion from a poem. Knowing that the US is capable of producing and nurturing talents like this restores some faith in humans, certainly in that country. I hope to be able to vote for her in the 2036 presidential election. What a courageous declaration, 15 years in advance, I have no doubt that she'll make good on this promise too.

I agree with you Cam. Unfortunately, goodness and the arts of the most gifted are too hard to claim or maintain for big companies and corporate America, so mainstream media settles for the plastic, laughable, mindless matter because it is easier to market and more useful for chatter. It is easier to push stereotypes and trash because it can be replaced so easily. Shock, sex, drugs sells and what matters most in the arts which should be the pinnacle of inspiration for our youth is hiding somewhere in text books which they're sadly reluctant to read. Amanda Gorman will indeed inspire many for years to come, but this country and it's corporate industries aren't interested in the embodiment of her work and message unless it's quick cash. . .Look what's happened to the music industry over the years. It's disgusting. Social media has become a social poison. I'm not going to spend more time listing disgusting songs, videos, or talk about underserving fame, but I will say this: Love her! We are known by our words and this young lady is belching out words like eruption of a volcano. Girl your life is the canvas, your heart is the bank where you store up the words, your tongue is the pen of a ready writer, your brain never stop thinking. Those who be hating on her, is that born of the realisation of your own inadequacy and inability to even do the same (in your so called mother tongue)? - and I'm not even talking about her poetry!
Amanda's poems💕 are exponentially an expression of "EMOTIONS." I have to engage my real feelings when I hear her poems. Her poems is as a formal dance around our emotions obtaining an engaged audience while also stimulating our brain. Emotion on its own is mere sentimentality.
I like that Amanda referred to what must be (from her perspective) our historical viewing earth from the moon for the first time. Remember Lonely Planet? That image amidst historical Civil Rights changes showed we can revolutionize how we act for the betterment of all. If we can reach the moon we can have justice on earth was said then. Amanda reminds us we can revolutionizes how we must act and think today. What habits have we changed during 2020 that we can keep to keep our Paris Agreement for carbon reduction by 2050? One domicile, vehicle, or action at a time. Changing with a friend makes is easier for us to adapt faster.
Amanda Gorman is a national treasure--I sincerely hope that the school in Florida that allegedly restricted access to Amanda Gorman's literary works reverses their decision--very sad!
