We all know why Kept Confidence is slept on and/or never going to shine like Better Devils is - no Strand perks. Why Bungie rolled out the weapon like they did, is beyond me.
I agree. Kept Confidence is just a PvP weapon overall with the roll CoolGuy mentioned, where with Better Devils, its what Kept Confidence cannot be with the right PvE Builds.
whenever you end up trying Wishful Ignorance, i STRONGLY recommend picking up a Breachlight. my roll is Pugilist w Desperate Measures and its excellent
Breachlight is probably one of the best feeling sidearms I've ever used, think only Rat King has felt slightly nicer but not by a lot, Breachlight is just nice to use

I think as a heavy burst the Breachlight is amongst the highest damage legendary primaries in the game. Combine with desperate measures for even more damage and either demo/puglist depending on the type of build. And paired with facet of bravery you also have insane uptime on unraveling rounds. It’s an absolute workhorse, especially this episode with unstoppable sidearms.
I love Breachlight so much. I'm a Titan Main and my Pugilist/Swashbuckler roll is amazing for fueling melee builds. I just wish I could use it and Bastion at the same time. 😭
Demo/Swash (only Strand weapon to have it) will never leave my Grapple focused Prismatic Hunter. Demo/Adren can never leave my Warlock. 3 kills with Devour is absolutely broken with the facet Edit: the only perc combo that gives you a MASSIVE damage buff with Grapple grenade. Perfect for Hunters and Syntho Titans
I’m glad someone finally brought up Kept Confidence in PvP! Been using it with the swarmers and weave walk in crucible with Threaded Blast as mini nuke downing off anything tagged by my threadlings. It crush’s the hunter meta hard and a breathe of fresh air to play since I was never into Strand Warlock in crucible!
Love when you share when weapons have a specific roll that few or no other weapons can get. Really makes me want to go out and look for them to see how they fit in my builds
I'm a big fan of Slice. There are several builds that rely on frequent class ability and in togher content Slice can save your team from a wipe. Punchy hunter, Helion Warlock. I use a Call with slice, but it is nice to have a primary option. Of course, not every weapon can be a build specific weapon. The Call is craftable and worth crafting several varients depending on where you will use it. Of course, vault space is now more of a premium than ever, so build specific weapons are becoming a liability.
My current Hazardous Propulsion build is Slice/Frenzy Better Devils, Buried Bloodline and a Bait and Switch Rocket. So I pop my class ability, launch the rockets, hit them with Slice to Sever them, hit them with BB to Weaken them (if I have Devour procced) and that sets up Bait and Switch on my rocket. It's super synergistic and subclass agnostic, so you can build into different things with Prismatic, Strand, Solar, whatever.

@@InsipidMoniker It would only make sense to increase the drop rate the further out you get, that's why Bungo doesn't do it, they don't think that far ahead. Take the exotic whole class item fiasco as an example. The more you grind the more you're punished.
Spent a lot of time playing with this weapon in D2 Foundry this week while putting together my Mataiodoxia build (which is terribly slept on still, IMO). I love Explosive Payload Handcannons in PvE, and while I didn't pull Demo + Explosive like I would have liked, I did get Demo + Adrenaline Junkie. This thing with Demo + your Pugilist Aberrant Action flows beautifully with Mataiodoxia Prismatic warlock. Your Darkness weapon feeds your Light grenades, and your Light Weapon Feeds your Darkness Melee. Not to mention Handcannon + Mataiodoxia naturally lets you deal with every champ in the game. Definitely not the best in PvP, but, like you said, this thing is a fantastic build piece. I've got my eye on an ECap PvP roll to run double ECap with Better Devils + Embraced Identity. I'd love to see a video on the sniper if you haven't made one yet!
fun PVP roll to pair with prismatic Khepri's Sting: Swashbuckler. Swashbuckler x5 + a surge = 124 crits and unravel if you have Face of Bravery. Super fun conceptually but it really either needs a different sandbox to feel more viable - or a different pilot ^_^*. Like you said, feels like I'm either trying to fix the range, or the stability or the handling and the gun needs all of them for me. Still, locking that roll and float+zen for the future
I have a Frenzy + Demo roll, and it's one of my favorite new workhorses in PvE. It really is everything you want all at once: damage, reload, ability generation, and instant mag refills to boot. Notably: Autumn Wind can be crucible-focused for this combo too. Both are used for slightly different things, but both are totally worth getting.

I have a Moving target + Ele. Cap max range roll that makers my stasis characters absolutely schmoove. On that, Ele Cap stasis is incredibly underrated: +20 recoil direction and 20% reduced ADS movement penalty is insane, and no need for recoil barrels and/or counter-balance mods
A note about Threaded Blast that I noticed in the Pale Heart running a Hatchling Aisha's Care & Traveller's Propagation (Strand kills spit out Threadlings): the Tangle blast, I'm 91% sure, *can and does* destroy your _own_ Threadlings. Be warned about this strange interaction - it only pops them if they're crawling along the ground, not if they're mid-fall as they spawn in, mind you.
When it comes to hand cannons with demo/frenzy. 3 of the 4 that have it are new this content release. Wardens law did not previously get demo in the third column before this episode. Something new swapped wellspring and demo around. Last time it dropped wellspring third column w/demo third. This time it has demo in third and wellspring fourth. Better devils is "new" this episode. As an aside, i with i got the wellspring frenzy something new last solstice, but i couldn't stand grinding for it any longer than i did. Hopefully this solstice is better.
grinded IB for days and kept every crucible engram to focus this. Ended up with Slice/Hatchling on 65 range and a Recon/OFA on 60 range and they both slap. Mustve focussed dozens of engrams though cos that loot pool is HUGE
My BD has EP/RH. It’s my main hand cannon. Since Final Shape = 3600 kills. And that’s while using I dented kindness with VS. I love it. Have always loved it.
Finally, I been patiently waiting for this video. I've dumped a little over 100 engrams on it after I hit 4 resets. My favorite roll just so happens to be the exact same roll you show cased. I also have a 75 range roll with perpetual/zen that I also really like, being able to snowball it to 85 range with nadir had me scratching my head after some gunfights a number of times. Nadir is definitely the the best possible origin trait for a handcannon in my opinion and I can't wait for Something New since that's gonna have precision instrument and Nadir

I rarely use 140s in PVP unless they have 100 stability, since I play on controller. I recently got a Better Devils to drop with Perpetual Motion/Elemental Capacitor. On void, it'll only need 1 stack of PM to achieve this. Can't wait to try it.
I’ve been using a Wishful Ignorance build using Banner/Feltchette storm that has a more mid range build for strand titan that’s a nice change from the synthoceps brawler. I actually have become a full convert but you just have to be mindful of positioning but you get hefty chunks of melee energy back and can have consistent unravel round up time
I use a pugilist hatchling roll for my swarmers/ electric slide build and I love it so much. Devour feeds your grenade and the hatchling kills feed your melee energy. A weird roll but so effective.
Ive got the same extended/accurised/perp/ecap range mw roll and use it with storms edge and embraced identity (opening ecap) The double 100 handling is beautiful nadir clutches up! Love the vid as always Coolguy ❤
I have a perpetual explosive roll with 70 range and it is my absolute baby. Nadir focus feels too good as an origin trait and just makes winning duels that much easier. Pair it with a sniper and it is chefs kiss
I'm still focusing for a couple rolls I want to try. I have a few already that I'll probably keep unless I can get better stats on the same perks. One I have that isn't going anywhere dropped with Air Triger + Kill Clip for PvP *and* Perpetual + Frenzy for PvE. I was a little excited when that dropped about 40-50 engrams in.
Better Devils is great. It was BY FAR my most used hand cannon before (and probably well into) Forsaken, and I'm super happy it came back strand. I'm almost exclusively a PVE player, so it being stuck in PVP kinda blows ass, but it's worth shooting for.
If it helps at all, while it is the latest addition to the Crucible weapons, it costs only a single engram apiece and nothing else to focus. This will go up to 3 engrams and some glimmer, I believe, when a new one comes out.
Moving Target works really good with the Nadir Origin Trait since it increases more your accuracy Got myself one with Moving Target + Opening Shot and with the Nadir Origin Trait, can say it really feels like gives me an advantage when starting combat Unfortunately not maximum range but still it's great specially since run a Strand PvP build
I have a max range 75 range roll with Perpetual and Zen Moment. I've never shot a better feeling hand cannon in my life. I've used Austringer. I've used Rose. I've used Fatebringer, I've used Exalted Truth and Palindrome. I've used god rolls of all of the above, and nothing came close to the buttery smoothness that Zen Moment brings to that hand cannon. It's an unparalleled level of shooting experience, and I wish that other Hand Cannons could feel this way. It's peak.
I found a year 1 Better Devils in my vault and decided to take it for a spin while i do the kegendary campaign. It wasnt as good as sunshot 😅 but i still had fun.
been looking for air trigger and zen for pvp on it and finally after 2 weeks of grinding a 3 out of 5 dropped and thats good enough for now. it only having 65 range makes it self present a lot but it just feels so good that i wont take it off really love what they did with it.
Impatiently waiting for Mayhem or Scorched to be the featured! I'm really burned out on PVP atm but Demo x Hatchling on the Mataoidoxia Build will be utterly ridiculous! Messing around with Wish-Keeper for the extra suspend atm but I really do love Hand Cannons & if I can slot one in? I'm gunna 😄
Been waiting on this one! Will be burning all my cruc engrams this season for an ideal roll. Hate hand cannons overall, but a strand one is necessary at times, and I'm not going to talk about the neomuna one.
I really see some dope combos for pve on this thing. Like you said pve monster locked in pvp. At least its a drop and not something thats locked behind trials
@@bernardturner7929 I completely agree. It just depends on the build. Higher end activity slice is a godsend. Mid to lower, grenade spam is amazing. Joined a group that asked me to be their 6th against the witness in the raid, demo Explo just hard carried for add clear (they just needed ad clear ironically XD)
Zen Moment/Reconstruction is a funny combo I've been goofing around with in pve. EP/Rapid Hit on my pvp one though has been doing pretty alright but it feels like it's missing something.
Hammer forge accurized reconstruction zen moment and a range masterwork. U get 70 range, Reconstruction is slept on. Keeps u in the fight longer. In threes u almost never need to reload. And zen fixes the stability. Its a perfect dualing weapon.
Dude get out of my head! 😂 i took this around pale heart just for some target practice with about 5 rolls, testing them out. It felt so good, i forgot i was just there to test it and kept doing PvE stuff. "Huh... maybe this isn't just for PvP..."
Perfect video. This hand cannon is at the height of is career in PvE this season. Threaded blast is so strong, and this gun is very satisfying on red bars.
I have one with Reconstruction/EP and it’s great in PVE. I’ll be trying to farm other rolls like the ones you mentioned to try em out. Overall I think this is a solid hand cannon
I have and Adept Warden's Law with Demo+Frenzy, I also have The Something New with demo+Frenzy. Still farming the Crucible for a Deno+Frenzy roll of the Better Devils. 🤞
Was hoping it'd come back in season 15, 16 or 20 since they were more Queensguard related. Would have been super nice to have crafted. Guess Bungie are waiting for the population to start dipping low again before bringing back a fan favorite

We need a strand 180. I've been loving word of crota for void builds, but ideally I want a good kinetic slot HC to pair with parasite and ikelos sniper (the hard meta for everyone but celestial hunters).
Yay another weapon I won't ever get due to it being locked in the PvP. With a perk pool as large as that I won't even set aside an afternoon trying to get it. To many PvP player said "Put more PvE guns in PvP so they have to play are game mode". and instead of getting that result we instead get great weapons like this one that will never get used or not used as much as they deserve to be because of the toll to get them.
I got my first Better Devils drop with Stability masterwork and Demolistionist and Adrenaline Junkie and haven't taken it off in conjunction with Ex Dris / Mothkeepers
Awesome breakdown and review. I was really looking forward to a deep dive on Nadir Focus origin trait. Is that coming at any point? We have the new Solstice HC coming with it as well. I swear there’s something going on under the hood that just makes that origin trait make weapons so sticky. Community insight on 3rd party sites are still a bit empty in terms of hard information too.
Put what you want on it as long as you have EP as well. I love mine. Wished I used it more. Must have sharded 100 of them before I found what I wanted.
Ngl I just want a 140 strand cannon with shoot to loot / EP for my strand hunter build. That'd pair so well with my build. Kill 2 enemies, drop orb of light, shoot orb of light, get woven mail, kill another enemy, spawn a tangle, shoot the tangle, unravel beyblade. A self-contained, consistent and reliable loop that allows me to effectively pull abilities out of my gunplay and clear entire rooms. Not even taking into account that i can use my abilities, too. Yes, better devils is still good for this build with pugilist/EP or similar. Yes, the rocket sidearm from the pale heart would be incredible for this build too. But the shoot to loot addition for picking up orbs would do wonders for playing this build the way I want to and helping keep woven mail up after the duration nerf on the fragment without having to run in dangerously close to enemies. And no, I don't want to use a rapid-fire scout rifle.
I've been thinking.. Bungo should totally bring back Duke mk44 as a Strand 120. We have two different feeling strand 140s, but only one 120 which is Round Robin. Just a thought.

kept is still better in pvp imo. i’ve been using that mainly since it launched and it has never failed me.
I have a post box full of better devils with hatchling etc and slept on them . Haven’t even tried one shot since Abberent came out

It's also worth remembering that Slice works with Facet of Courage to give light supers and abilities a 10% damage bump to whatever you Severed.

I have a perpetual explosive roll with 70 range and it is my absolute baby. Nadir focus feels too good as an origin trait and just makes winning duels that much easier. Pair it with a sniper and it is chefs kiss
I've been using a Reconstruction/All4One roll in PVE and have been really enjoying it

I'm still focusing for a couple rolls I want to try. I have a few already that I'll probably keep unless I can get better stats on the same perks. One I have that isn't going anywhere dropped with Air Triger + Kill Clip for PvP *and* Perpetual + Frenzy for PvE. I was a little excited when that dropped about 40-50 engrams in.
Better Devils is great. It was BY FAR my most used hand cannon before (and probably well into) Forsaken, and I'm super happy it came back strand. I'm almost exclusively a PVE player, so it being stuck in PVP kinda blows ass, but it's worth shooting for.
As soon as you said it was Crucible only I was like "....guess Ill figure something else out, damn."
If it helps at all, while it is the latest addition to the Crucible weapons, it costs only a single engram apiece and nothing else to focus. This will go up to 3 engrams and some glimmer, I believe, when a new one comes out.
I absolutely love it with slice+hatchling. Got like 3k kills with it in a few days in PvE (which is a lot for me xD)
Moving Target works really good with the Nadir Origin Trait since it increases more your accuracy
Got myself one with Moving Target + Opening Shot and with the Nadir Origin Trait, can say it really feels like gives me an advantage when starting combat
Unfortunately not maximum range but still it's great specially since run a Strand PvP build
I have a max range 75 range roll with Perpetual and Zen Moment. I've never shot a better feeling hand cannon in my life. I've used Austringer. I've used Rose. I've used Fatebringer, I've used Exalted Truth and Palindrome. I've used god rolls of all of the above, and nothing came close to the buttery smoothness that Zen Moment brings to that hand cannon. It's an unparalleled level of shooting experience, and I wish that other Hand Cannons could feel this way. It's peak.

Slice and hatchling builds well into prismatic warlock running phoenix dive
Slice / Explosive Rounds is really really good in pve. Even in easier content you still get free tangles with slice
I use it with Demo/Wellspring for my Stasis Turret build in PvP, it's great.
Slice + Zen is a really interesting sleeper pick for pvp. Free sever on like prism hunter dodge spam is definitely something
What? Slice currently does not even work in pvp, it does not lower enemies' damage output. It's been this way for a while

I found a year 1 Better Devils in my vault and decided to take it for a spin while i do the kegendary campaign. It wasnt as good as sunshot 😅 but i still had fun.
been looking for air trigger and zen for pvp on it and finally after 2 weeks of grinding a 3 out of 5 dropped and thats good enough for now. it only having 65 range makes it self present a lot but it just feels so good that i wont take it off

Been waiting on this one! Will be burning all my cruc engrams this season for an ideal roll. Hate hand cannons overall, but a strand one is necessary at times, and I'm not going to talk about the neomuna one.

Joined a group that asked me to be their 6th against the witness in the raid, demo Explo just hard carried for add clear (they just needed ad clear ironically XD)
Been using my roll for Prismatic Titan (Pugilist + Hatchling) and I love it. It's what the first 140 strand handcannon should have been.
Thankfully it's Momentum Control this week, finally an enjoyable PvP mode
Zen Moment/Reconstruction is a funny combo I've been goofing around with in pve.
EP/Rapid Hit on my pvp one though has been doing pretty alright but it feels like it's missing something.
Hammer forge accurized reconstruction zen moment and a range masterwork. U get 70 range, Reconstruction is slept on. Keeps u in the fight longer. In threes u almost never need to reload. And zen fixes the stability. Its a perfect dualing weapon.

got a slice/exp roll i like a lot for spreading dark debuff anytime I have decent class ability usage, tangles are nice from it too

Perfect video. This hand cannon is at the height of is career in PvE this season. Threaded blast is so strong, and this gun is very satisfying on red bars.
I have one with Reconstruction/EP and it’s great in PVE. I’ll be trying to farm other rolls like the ones you mentioned to try em out. Overall I think this is a solid hand cannon

I have and Adept Warden's Law with Demo+Frenzy, I also have The Something New with demo+Frenzy. Still farming the Crucible for a Deno+Frenzy roll of the Better Devils. 🤞

We need a strand 180. I've been loving word of crota for void builds, but ideally I want a good kinetic slot HC to pair with parasite and ikelos sniper (the hard meta for everyone but celestial hunters).
Yay another weapon I won't ever get due to it being locked in the PvP. With a perk pool as large as that I won't even set aside an afternoon trying to get it. To many PvP player said "Put more PvE guns in PvP so they have to play are game mode". and instead of getting that result we instead get great weapons like this one that will never get used or not used as much as they deserve to be because of the toll to get them.

Awesome breakdown and review. I was really looking forward to a deep dive on Nadir Focus origin trait. Is that coming at any point? We have the new Solstice HC coming with it as well. I swear there’s something going on under the hood that just makes that origin trait make weapons so sticky. Community insight on 3rd party sites are still a bit empty in terms of hard information too.

Put what you want on it as long as you have EP as well. I love mine. Wished I used it more. Must have sharded 100 of them before I found what I wanted.

Ngl I just want a 140 strand cannon with shoot to loot / EP for my strand hunter build.
That'd pair so well with my build. Kill 2 enemies, drop orb of light, shoot orb of light, get woven mail, kill another enemy, spawn a tangle, shoot the tangle, unravel beyblade.
A self-contained, consistent and reliable loop that allows me to effectively pull abilities out of my gunplay and clear entire rooms. Not even taking into account that i can use my abilities, too.
Yes, better devils is still good for this build with pugilist/EP or similar. Yes, the rocket sidearm from the pale heart would be incredible for this build too.
But the shoot to loot addition for picking up orbs would do wonders for playing this build the way I want to and helping keep woven mail up after the duration nerf on the fragment without having to run in dangerously close to enemies.
And no, I don't want to use a rapid-fire scout rifle.

Bungo should totally bring back Duke mk44 as a Strand 120.
We have two different feeling strand 140s, but only one 120 which is Round Robin.
Just a thought.
Recon/Explosive is a straight workhorse in pve
The fact Kept Confidence was robbed of Hatchling makes me not want to even look at this weapon out of principle.
Crazy that it still manages to cook in PvP with potentially the worst perk pool ever
