Great video and analysis! Very interesting points about OD ( I am an OD player myself and very interested in their comp play ). I think there is also something to be said with their internal balance, especially between their brutes. I think Kanephors need to be looked at as well. They’re innately blessed with hardened 1 d3 and e2. It’s hard not to look at them and think they fulfill too many roles, much like the Ashen Dawn but not as severe. One little change I would like to see the Buccephaloi get is adding the Leader and Devout rules. It would distinguish them from the other brute units and in the lore they cut off their own horns as an act of faith to Hazlia, thus making sense for them to have Devout. I don’t agree that legionnaires themselves are an issue, I think it’s the Optio. It’s the cheapest officer option in legionnaires and it’s the most powerful. I think that needs to increase by 10 points and not the regiments standard by 5 and the regiment by 5. Again great video and analysis. Cant wait to see more!
The Chant rework was mentioned by the Devs in the Wadruhn Discord channel when the last round of balance changes happened. I think that for the Wadruhn they just need to get rid of the flat stat buffs from the chants. Currently it's limiting the design space too much and that forces people into War because defence is the most important stat. Thr current design of the Chant system is creating a bit of a Trollbloods Krielstone problem. Something like a Thunder Rider should be defence 4 base or at least 3 with Shield. But they can't have that because would be completely broken with T1 War. So instead we have things with Warbred stuck at Clash 2 and TRs at Def e because the potential of the chants means that the units have to be balance around the idea of them having all the potential buffs simultaneously.
I think Chant system must be Development nightmare as you want to have cool mechanic idealy for whole army but then how to balance it.. Iam afraid that they will change it that chants will be much weaker(so less impactfull just little bonus there and there) and buff some stats on units - it makes balance on WD much easier but we get less uniq race...
The jarl ability is exactly how Nords have always supposed to play. They can’t score “a billion points” and can be beaten in the last two rounds of a 10 round game.
I have actually had some luck with the Valks. I deploy a large-ish group of them with the Volva, who takes both Runes of Fate and Rune of Shielding. Anything that doesn't have cleave really struggles with that unit. It's not perfect, but I did tank like 19 hits recently with no wounds suffered. The Nords just don't have anything that can take a hit other than trolls, and even they aren't all that good at it. So they are the best I have for an anvil unit.
I recently played in my first tournament, my first opponent (who also won the tournament) had the max amount of Ashen Dawn regiments in his 100 K army, it was devastating. He joked that PB will probably nerf the Ashen Dawn in the next rules update.
On Supremacies, it's worth noting that some of them are useless because of the release schedule. For example, Carrier of the God Flesh is terrible without Clockwork Hoplites (and honestly Clockwork Hoplites aren't great without CotGF), but they won't be out until September. It's still not a great Supremacy, it's just clearly designed to do something very specific. I'm sure there are others like that where the issue might not be the Supremacy itself but instead the competitiveness of the target unit.
I think all characters should count as mediums end of story. This give you an active choice as to where you want to put them without giving some armies an edge because they having something that can make a light score. Plus it would make dueling a bit better because dueling out the character in the brick of lights ends it's scoring
If you see the changes to dueling that you are eager for, what do you think would happen to caster-focused factions like the Spires? The casting lists already saw a nerf with the latest character placement rules revision, and they don't have particularly notable regiments to protect the casters.
About OD im curious - is it like dominating on US turnaments? Iam wondering you didnt mention FD - i dont think it is worth it to strip all mechanics that works with Dark power when there is just one spell - Blackflame Coruscation that goes stronger with Fallen Pantheon pool(and with DP too ofc).
I'm still very new but I hear the Mimetic Assassin has 2 issues: first, he's all about duels, so if duels get improved that will help him a lot. But also apparently Flank on him just does not function as intended? I'm not sure I get how but that's what the main Conquest discord keeps saying
Flank states "This regiment...": RAW, it does not apply to a Regiment the character is a part of, which is why Forward Force exists. It is uncertain whether it's an oversight or the assassin is not meant to give flank to his unit. But yeah, his main problem is duels not being common. Thing is, he flat out destroys anything this side of a FD in a duel :D
@@mrindecisive6615 Yeah that's the part that confuses me, if he doesn't give Flank then what's the purpose in him having the ability at all? Seems like RAI it's surely meant to work
@@RetnabBanter it's a refuse, probably. He used to give flank when forward force didn't exist. The fact that it does and he doesn't have it probably points to the fact that he's not supposed to let his regiment flank
I think you're kind of offbase on Nords. I've seen them go through a few balance passes now, and I can say that as the low defense faction they're balancing on a razor thin wire when it comes to balance. Very difficult to balance one way or the other. Access is basically Nord's issue. Their warband distribution is horrible. The good units are too easily taken, the bad units are hard to fit into a list. The Blooded's warband completely holds back list building variance. Bow chowsen would not be half as bad if they were locked behind Konungyr, who is an expensive character for his profile. He offers far less than tempered sorcerer or Lineage highborne but unlocks amazing profiles. If you nerf them too far the faction quite literally falls apart.
I don't mind the objectives being blocking terrain. They get to count as height 2 so they can been seen over infantry. Also, a flat plate would mean that i just park a thick regiment with a defense of 4 on top of the plate and you can never destroy it. As is, you want to get past the ovjective? Kill it. Is it friendly to you? Well they are hurting themselves by not destroying it. Saying a win using it as a blocker is empty is like saying hiding in hindering terrain from cav is an empty tactic.
Oh man, I'm going to have a lot of comments here. The penalties for declining a duel seem weak, until you have two anvil units with characters fighting over a zone. It can decide the game under those circumstances. Declining a duel could stand to be a little more impactful, but not much.
And with Dweg its relatively easy to bring 1 character + one infantry regiment (all Dwegs infantry have free duel action), thx Hazlia that Dwegs are more focusing on gunlines these times 😛
The Spires can turn any light into a medium every turn, but the foot Strat turns one medium regiment into a light for one turn, and everyone loses their minds.
I am a new player. only got like..a couple games in. I choose Nords for the looks. But i am not having alot of succes with them. Specialy not into dwegs or od
They're my only faction right now and I enjoy them. I would say they aren't the easiest to get used to, bow chosen are your best unit. I like them with the blooded setup for range. The 1's ignore defense are my go to for dweg, and my Od opponent really doesn't like taking nords. My main aim in games is to score early to get ahead of my opponent and then carefully mitigating engagements as much as possible to keep ahead.
If it makes you feel better Im new and play OD for the same reasons (cool models) and I'm not winning much either. I usually just shoot for knowing what rules I got wrong and seeing incremental improvement.
I'm new too and I went with Nords for the look as well. I played in my first tournament and lost all 5 games, but had a great experience. I really appreciated the patience that the other players extended towards me with my inexperience. The other players were very generous with some of the tips and tricks I could have used as a Nords player during the game and following the games conclusion. I've really appreciated Para Bellum's rule transparency and free app usage. Compared to GW it's a breath of fresh air!
I'm having the same struggle, but I'm starting to get my hands around them a bit. I love playing them, but I really wish I didn't feel like I will invariably lose every fight against any other unit of similar point cost.
I was a tad disappointed in how little time you spent on City States, I do see the concern, I think it's a bit premature. Chariots are very good, but they're not operating in a vacuum. You're not going to put nine of them on the table and win games with that, they need a battle line to operate around. They look so impactful because CS only has one other ranged unit to work with, and Selinoi are more specialized. You do need to have them in any serious list, but it's more because they're the only thing in their class than how good they are at their job. The Talos is kinda in the same boat, he's more durable per point than anything else in the faction right now, but Clockwork Hoplites will be competitive with him once they come out.
@Briko-22 I left three words out of that sentence because they seemed redundant, but I guess I should have been more explicit: "...competitive with him _in that category_ once they come out." Not _highly_ competitive on durability-per-point, but hands-down closer than anything else for any given enemy profile.

As a Spires player, I agree with all of your points. Desolation Drones are hilariously bad.
They need to add them to the underscores and as a mainstay for the pheromancer.

One thing
The Maharajah when riding the mahut, removes the mahut's barrage

Had good results against bowsens with kheres. nords is so affected by the player experience its so hard to compare units in a vacuum
Agree on CS not becoming Pay to Win.
My son was trying to play on TTS, but he couldn’t figure it out.
Perhaps he could join the conquest eternal discord, or my discord, and we can give him a tutorial

arent the bowchosen meta a pure reacton to just how prevalent and powerful the ashen dawn are?

How is For site NOT a player decision...
43:35 woah your 330 point monster slaughtered 150 point infantry!
People keep being shocked that the single most expensive thing in the game beats most other things in a 1on1 fight
