I live in China working as an ESL teacher, my wife is Chinese and I have been incessantly talking to her about Tesla. I have taken her to a Tesla store, but regretfully she hasn't taken one for a test drive yet. As soon as I can arrange one, I am sure we will be new Tesla owners. (special note: the reason why I haven't bought one yet is the fact that I never had a driver's license as I never wanted to drive an ICE car)

Just buy a Chinese EV. There are literally hundred models available. And way cheaper with the incentives. Like the VW Lavida electric that just has been introduced for CN¥160,000 (US$25k) with a range of 275km. Or how about a BYD the new Tang ist gorgeous. Or the BYD Pro. Or how about a mini car with the size of a Smart like the ZhongTai e200 after incentives for CN¥60k (US¥8.5) there is literally no need to buy a Tesla. The BYD e6 Taxis in Shenzhen, show the development. I was just in e6 that has driven 317,000km in 18 month! You do have super charger stations in Shenzhen with up to 600(!) stalls. There is a wave coming of cheap reliable Chinese cars, that also look gorgeous.

Oil companies will lose. Elon really threw a wrench in their business. They can try to slow it down, but there is nothing they can do to prevent the inevitable.
c. 65% of USA electricity production is fossil fuel, including lots of coal. 20% nuclear. So to considerable extent into the foreseeable future it shuffles the oil/natural gas usage from vehicles to central power stations (which are more efficient than cars but still burn the fossil fuels.). Large scale conversion would require immense amounts of lithium (e.g.) and it makes sense oil companies would switch over as they have the global supply chain well oiled.

At the moment Tesla is throwing a wrench in their own business, more and more customers are unsatisfied with the after sales service. They just lost a 5 million € order from a german electric car rental company because of this. The cars and technology are great but Tesla needs to put a lot more effort in service. That is where they are way behind the traditional car companies.
It isn't just Tesla. Plenty of 'news' articles criticising renewable energy too on completely false premises and ignoring the massive issues with electricity generation from fossil fuels. You are correct that younger people are way more enthusiastic about EVs.
Robert Smith all people need to continue asking is, “with so many other western countries doing “it” (whatever “it” is...), why is it so bad/detrimental/difficult, etc...
There are plenty of reasons to criticize renewables. The German experiment is imploding. It gave them nothing but expensive electricity and bad emissions. I'm comparing against nuclear of course, not fossil fuel. If Germany had spent their hundreds of billions of renewables Euros on reactors they would have had a carbon free grid and cheap, reliable electricity by now. It's absolutely amazing how renewables supporters can say that climate change is an immediate existential threat and then go on to completely reject nuclear although it's both lower carbon, safer, more reliable, doesn't need storage, takes up very little land, and enabled the fastest buildout of grid electricity in history. It's more or less a religion at this point.

When I decided to buy an EV in 2017 I wanted a Tesla model 3. At the time, there was a very long delivery period (6 months to a year) so I settled for a Hyundai Ioniq Eelectric. It doesn't have the autonomy of a Tesla but with a much smaller battery (28KWh) I can drive more than 250 km (155 mi) before charging (except in the canadian winter where the cold drastically reduces the autonomy). It cost 10 000 $ less than the model 3 and I'm very satisfied with it. I can't imagine going back to an ICE car. I'm not a fan of conspiracy theories but this one makes a lot of sense.
Well done. I have a Toyota Hybrid, as are all the taxis in Sydney(and no doubt elsewhere) and it is terrific. Uses half the fuel and has great low end torque. Hope that Toyota shelves their silly hydrogen idea, the thought bubble of their aging maestro, and gets with the EV trend. I'm sure that they will see sense; it's all about the availibilty of batteries just now.
My problem is that I could not afford a $50k (CDN) car on a fixed income. With luck I was able to buy my 2018 VW e-Golf before the incentive rebates in Ontario were cancelled by the newly elected provincial government. I love my EV and I agree with the presenters here ... I am not going back to the ICE age!. If I could afford one I would love to test drive and most likely then purchase a Tesla but it seems a remote possibility.
Hi guys, I purchased a 2019 Tesla Model X for personal use as well as Uber driving and development of my transportation business. Currently, I have had about 300 riders from my starting point of March 28, 2019. Uber business sees 99% of the people having never experienced riding in a Tesla of any kind! So, if asked, I tell them this car is the best automobile I’ve ever owned!!! I think everyone comes away from the ride, knowing more about the Tesla brand than before. Just thought you would like to know. Kent

I don't think that Tesla is going to become the most selling brand. World wide market and most of the population don't buy prime cars like Tesla's, and the Chinese market has matured quickly these past two decades, they will be the ones to decide the future of evs
Sergio Ibagon 10 years ago batteries cost $1500/kWh . Now they cost $140/kWh, they are about to hit way under $100/kWh (threshold for price parity with petrol). So the Teslas will become mainstream cost in just a few years. They are leading battery development and I predict Legacy auto will have to buy the Tesla “skateboard” or die... I would hate for every car to be a Tesla, but if every other car had a Tesla battery/powertrain that is a world I would welcome.
It's not just batteriy technology that gets shelved, there have been countless improvements in design and technology that would improve gas mileage of ICE that were quietly bought up and shelved over the years.
I actually witnessed this at SEMA in 1996...There was a firm called Coats Engineering who had invented bolt on replacement heads for the major ICE Engine blocks around the world...the difference was instead of using valves in the heads, they used a rotating lobes on a camshaft for intake and exhaust thereby eliminating up and down movement and converting it to rotary movement. The result was staggering increases in RPM for all engines...the higher RPMs resulted in way more power output or a reduction in displacement to achieve the same power=better fuel efficiency. The entire booth and all materials disappeared after being open 4 hours! I have never seen the technology emerge again.
Im gonna come out and say this straight I love the sound of my V8 camaro but if im gonna get another car its gonna be electric and its NOT gonna be a Bolt or BMW E car, Elon is literally my Favorite business person on the Internet right now
Chevifier I agree. I love my 2011 Camaro 2SSRS and never plan on selling it, but I would trade it for any fully loaded Tesla model. Especially the Roadster ❤️
You'll thank yourself immensely. Buying a Tesla was one of the best decisions I made. The car is fun as Hell and just makes so much sense. I worked on cars for 20 years and 15 minutes driving a Tesla Model 3 while on vacation had me converted. I haven't even worked on any of my project cars since. They are getting sold!
Justin Griffin oh heck no, I love that my Model 3 is silent while blowing other cars out of the water. Just pure, quiet torque. No subwoofers need apply.
My buddy bought a Tesla 3 all wheel drive with two motors. It does 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. That beats the 2020 Shelby GT500 Mustang which achieves a 3.3 0-60 speed.

This is what I've been saying for years. The idea isn't to bankrupt Tesla. Its to DELAY their growth as much as possible. The trick is, automakers look at this as a failure of the market to adopt Tesla, so they fail to act. In reality, Tesla's path of innovation is just being slowed. Think of how many incredible projects Tesla has had on schedule that have had to be delayed or cancelled due to their various cash crunches. Think about WHY they've had layoffs. Right now they are being forced to run as efficiently as possible. This isn't a viability conversation, its an autonomy versus investment conversation. Point being, do they want to continue to raise money to cover their gaps (at the risk of dilution), or do they want to trim as much as they can to keep operating and moving forward. When you look at it this way, if treated like a normal company, Tesla would be destroying the market. We'd already have Gigafactories, $25K entry level Teslas, Tesla Pickups, Tesla Semis, and some of the lowest cost batteries on the planet. When you squeeze a company like the market has squeezed Tesla, you prevent them from spending more money on engineers, testing, R&D labs, college programs, etc. That has a direct effect on how quickly they can realize new technology developments, and in turn, push their company forward.
What they can't squeeze though is time, regardless of how the market is doing. It may take just 1 engineer in their basement to make a breakthrough that will bust the dam completely.
Excellent point and perspective given here. BUT, the other side of the squeeze is a blessing in disguise. In having to get lean, trim the fat, cut the waist and remove the dead weight, the company is better and the core of what they want to do, the breakthroughs, the innovations and the mind boggling amount of dynamic changes and new thinking, has resulted in this company becoming more of a threat... not less. Their dominance is going to be even more pervasive, brutal and out of left field, the acceleration of how this will come to pass is probably going to be due to Elon saying they have to tighten their belt and so this squeeze, has turned the coal... into the diamond that will cut through the &(^(*& and probably bring about the changes faster and better through out ( cost wise) than it otherwise would have. Tesla is inevitable.
I am an enthusiastic Tesla owner. I just purchased the $3k upgrade from enhanced autopilot to FSD last night. This video was very timely as any little doubt I had about that $3k leap of faith dissipated when reminded of all these facts. Long live Tesla ⚡️

John, you are 100% correct. Elon makes statements that are relevant in ways we don't realize in the moment, but judge him due to his delivery or by the fact that he's just so far ahead of everyone. We thought the Cybertruck was a joke, but now there are over 650k reservations.
Often electric energy is made from oil, natural gas and coal and that is not always bad Here in the Netherlands we do a lot of farming in greenhouses and some are so big that they build there own powerplant on natural gas and filter out the CO2 and use that to make the plants grow faster 1 company like this produces 40 million tons of food and whit 15 of these farms/powerplants we can have the electricety we need plus massive extra food production witch is all grown in a quarantine so no poisen has to be used 👍
@@miguelpereira9859 And that's the point. By continually shorting the stock the oil companies can spread enough FUD that it keeps the stock price down and allows them to maximize the profits of selling prehistoric liquified dead fern juice for around $3-5 per gallon for as long as possible.

1. Follow the money and for the most part 2. The result is the intent. As they explained, in the video is not possible for the people at SEC to not see this. If they did not know they would incredibly dumb. Dumb people generally do not rise to that level of power.
They're kind of glossing over the fact that tesla's stock price actually collapsed last year, and the number of shorts out now is reflecting that. It's not some massive conspiracy-- basic logic says that if a stock suddenly surges without a clear cause (2019 was a poor growth year) one might reasonably expect a market correction to be on the way.

This reminds me when the sugar beverage companies kept marketing and funding studies where it said that fat was the cause for obesity and heart attacks.
Complex carbs are the best source of fuel. Lots of folks making money off erroneous notion that fat is healthy. Of course you need EFAs. Beyond that stay away from fats especially animal/saturated fat and you'll avoid a host of diseases.
Because it is: Eating fatty foods is directly measurable as more lipids in the bloodstream. So the more often that happens to your vascular system, the more plaque builds up in your arteries. Sugar is bad for other reasons, like increased risk of type 2 diabetes and caries, and ingesting excessive calories in any form will make you fat. However keeping your energy intake on level with what you burn, it is physically impossible to gain weight, without violating the law of thermodynamics! So when people claim that soft drinks makes you fat, they are talking about people ingesting more calories than they need on top of what they eat op fat and protein, and in that sense they are right, but it is an unscientific conclusion as the comparison is made on different premises by not using the same calorie intake when comparing High sugar and low sugar diets.
These guys are partly right about Tesla gaining more of the market. But as far as people not knowing about EV's is just dumb, it's the price. That's why some people don't get them.
Yes, the prices (of batteries?) are ridiculous. It's, simply, NOT profitable for a "regular" person to get a EV (and sometimes not even a hybrid); those who simply do not drive a lot, the starting price is so high, that 20 years of paying for gasoline won't match it... EDIT: Probably, possibly, "slow" adoption is good in a way, allowing for infrastructures to get made - and not creating a spike in the prices of electricity. Though, it's bound to happen: the more people need something, the more it'll cost - instead of it being the other way around... More and more people paying for something means an increase in profits, but the main driving factor (today) has become GREED, meh. AKA "If I don't do it, somebody else will" (The most disgusting "philosophy" of the day, blah.)
Price and 2 hour detours on road trips to recharge. When I can buy a reliable used EV for for $7,000 bucks that I can reliably put another 100k miles on, I'll be interested to pick one up.
I bought a Tesla X, and like it very much. My only complaint, is they could have easily put a battery that gets 550 miles to a full charge, and since the model 3 came out, when I have to use a SUPER Charger, I have to wait in line 10 to 25 minutes. But no gasoline guzzler comes close to a Tesla X in safety and comfort.

The FREAK'IN CITY BUS has better acceleration than most cars and quieter. Consumers simply will not accept that situation which is why I feel the electric conversion will be an avalanche over the next 5 years.

Congrats!! So jealous. Glad there is an older generation that love Tesla EVs. I would expect there are many of you because the majority of younger people don't have the funds to buy new cars. Thank you for doing your part for the environment and for our future.
The kid thing is absolutely true... where-ever I drive around where I live (not many Teslas here) - little kids see my car and LIGHT UP and generally jump up and down pointing... is kind of amazing.
I just was in Germany and rented one on Turo , same thing . When I drove it on the US base some kids asked me " is that the new Tesla" I was impressed since the one that asked was a girl . She even asked how much they cost I had to laugh and tell her $45k then she said " I'm getting one of those " 😊 that was a good day.
I had just dropped off my son at the ft Lauderdale airport and this 9 or 10 year old boy dragged his father over to show him my Model 3. I invited both of them into the car, but the father stayed behind while the kid had his first sitting. He took pictures and thanked me before we both were being pushed out by security.

BIG TOXIC OIL IS THE MOST POWERFUL VOICE ON OUR WORLD MMMM..... Batteries electricity with renewable energy on the other hand are very interesting, Example 1930s the same batteries in the local lighthouse have been working fine with about every 10 years they have a service a person takes the lid off swamps around the same eletro plats and thats it virtually no pollution for 90 years! batteries this type of simple technology could help save our world but we have BIG TOXIC oil IN POWER? . Batteries can last a long time storing reusing clean energy over and over for years. Big toxic oil never seas the bad news about its core product which is highly toxic, gas oil is their main product to sell to us. The big difference between a battery and 1 tank of toxic fuel is you will burn all the toxic full then fill up to do the same all over again a battery last 10+ years plus in a car then has a second life as energy storage at home up to 20 years then finally is 98% recoverable to make a new battery, clean energy and best of all we may give a future to our children buring big toxic oil will never work, but will kill our world. the other big is how less toxic the materials are compared with petrol gas toxic which is very bad but wast is good for toxic business each time you fill up daily with toxic fuel then burn the hole lot think how good for business it is big toxic. Old toxic fuel is burnt very quickly turns in Co2 good for toxic business and war!☠💲💲💲💲💲 but killing our world we need to change and fast go green go non-profit and buzz off toxic #buzzofftoxic cool world with no war. would be a good ending what do you think? .

The success of Tesla and electric vehicles in general isn't a foregone conclusion, especially in places that are run by environmental Luddites. You're not going to convert all vehicles from petroleum to electric without an electric grid that can supply the huge amount of energy needed. The present grid is weak and getting weaker, especially in places like California. Solar and wind power won't cut it. Until the public changes its mind about nuclear energy, our coal- and petroleum-powered world will continue with business as usual.
@@MasterUxi So tear down existing fuel network that has been working decades, replace that with powerplants using same fuel to be converted into electricity of course with loss cause its not 1:1 conversion. Rebuild energy grid to meet the need, what will cause even more loss over distances and then be charged into EV's using lithium batteries that are huge polluter to mine and process the material, witch also double the vehicle weight causing even more loss in energy. EV is already 2.5 times more polluting than any old gas guzzling car and this would make things even worse. What was the point in all this? Ou right, create lots of hella profitable governmental projects for Jesuits and Freemasons with their good old boys to steal money from tax payers.. business as usual, as it was said.

Once the absolute cost of the Tesla EV falls below the cost of ICE, and the long term cost of ownership, and the cost per mile has already dropped -- there will be a 500 mile range, and a million mile battery. Once that happens, we have hit the tipping point. The transition could happen as quickly as Tesla can manufacture cars. IT IS ALREADY GROWING EXPONENTIALLY.

Pham Nuwen what are you talking about? “Electricity so cheap” it’s $.10 a KWH in most of the US. This is for advertising purposes not “competing with taxis”.

Often electric energy is made from oil, natural gas and coal and that is not always bad
Here in the Netherlands we do a lot of farming in greenhouses and some are so big that they build there own powerplant on natural gas and filter out the CO2 and use that to make the plants grow faster
1 company like this produces 40 million tons of food and whit 15 of these farms/powerplants we can have the electricety we need plus massive extra food production witch is all grown in a quarantine so no poisen has to be used

They're kind of glossing over the fact that tesla's stock price actually collapsed last year, and the number of shorts out now is reflecting that.
The current POTUS is a swamp maker not a swamp drainer. It would be useful to have another Teddy Roosevelt to shake things up in the finance world but the finance world (and their great partners, the fossils and their Republican mensch impersonators) have made sure that there are no Teddy Roosevelt wannabees out there and the closest there was (likely John McCain) they made sure that they clipped his wings as much as they could, without being obvious. What Sir Isaac Newton described as "action at a distance".
The fossils are the Pied Piper of our age and they shall not be denied the pay they feel they deserve, whether it is really deserved or what the cost of their "service" to society is does not matter to them.

This. Without nuclear power, EV charging will come from oil power plants anyway and the oil companies could vastly simplify distribution.
I totally agree with you guys about the need to educate people about EV’s and I decided to do my part. I just joined Uber today.
Great idea! Let the guys know if you make this happen. Enjoy your Tesla!
Good to know that I was not alone in thinking this way. Thanks Jack!. And thanks Z and J for this episode.
Everyone loves the Tesla. But the problem is price of this car.i think cost of Tesla is the real problem.
If you are reading online complaints for anything on wheels, you will get that impression. If however, you DRIVE a Tesla as I do, no, everyone loves Tesla. All ages, colors, persuasions, seeing riding, they,LOVE it.
The prices will drop as Tesla acquires mineral rights to worldwide lithium deposits and puts yo mama to work assembling batteries.
Same price as any other new car. Plus when the iPhones came out, people thought they were too expensive as well. A better product usually has a higher price. You get what you pay for. Oh and most people don’t even factor in the gas savings/no oil changes or maintenance. Also Tesla’s retain their value 3x as long as ICE cars and OTA updates can actually appreciate the car
Jack is brilliant guy and a brilliant writer. Being in the DIY EV business, I frequently find myself referring to work he was doing ten years ago and it's still relevant and sometimes better than what we are doing today.
