I kind of don't understand the factoring part- like why is it set up in that order (12 + 1x)(1000-10x) like why are these numbers paired together; the rest makes sense though

Lol. Pay closer attention, buddy. 'x' represents a single $1 price increase - so in this case if the price goes up by one dollar, x=1 (which brings the price up by one dollar and brings the quantity, also multiplied by 'x', down by 10).
