Great instruction video, thanks for showing what a struggle it was. I'm totally onboard with doing work fixing what's broke, like the door actuator, thanks for that video also btw! I don't ever see myself going through all this for a shorter shift throw, thanks again for doing all the work and showing us!
Did this today and regretted every minute of it lol! Used a Mishimoto weighted shifter. Shifts are so krispy now. Thanks to this video for showing me the way 👍
Ayy great video, thanks! If you end up not getting a new knob for a while, or if your new knob isnt lining up correctly, you can cut some gasket material(or whatever you have laying around) to the size of the bolt hole and shove it in before screwing the knob on. This acts as a spacer, keeping the knob from bottoming out past the correct orientation. I look forward to seeing more progress dude, keep it up!
Awesome video bro! I've had this shifter laying around for a month now finding motivation to get it installed lol. Some of the other how to videos on youtube were a bit eh but I think with this one I'll be able to do it
I just put the Monkeywrenchracing shifter base bushings and cable bushings on my stock shifter, works great. install took like 30 minutes for all the bushings. easy as pie. makes a big difference, shifter feels much more direct and solid.
The shifter bushings on my rx7 broke / wore out before. I had to replace it with an aluminum one. After seeing the install, sort of glad I won't have to mess with the shifter anytime soon on the celica...
my other trd shift knob came with a nut so you can adjust where the shift knob sits. you can probably find something similar online with the same thread pitch to make it sit correctly. My skunk2 s2000 knob came with something like that too
Stumbled across this video. Just add a nut on the rod before screwing on the gear knob and use that to lock the knob in place at the preferred rotation.
This short shifter is 50/50 to me. I don't like that it doesn't naturally go back to neutral when taking it out of gear because it feels stuck all the time despite greasing it. The height placement of the knob, like you said, is pretty short, when all you really need is a shorter "throw." The metal base is, probably, all you need from this kit to have a better driving experience. You should do the metal shifter bushings after this as it improves the slack we get from the rubber ones that came from factory. You might want to try the Mishimoto knob. It's heavy as fuck & cylinder shaped, so it'll go hand-in-hand with the new shifter. Also it's only like $40 for a good knob, only thing is it sucks when it's summer because it'll burn your hand, so find a baby sock to put over it LOL. Also BattleCraft hyper teardrop knob is amazing but they're always out of stock.
Some good points made, but then again it’s some cheap no name $40 shifter lol. And yea I’ve been eyeing the mishi knob. Will look into battle craft, never heard of them.

Glad to see your posting more videos. Your Celica videos are the best on TH-cam, I do enjoy watching them from Liverpool UK.
Thank you 🙏🏽

I ended up switching knobs, and yea someone had suggested something similar by using a nut as a spacer.
Appreciate the support! 🙏🏽

You should do the brass bushing shifter cable upgrade next. Shifts feel more precise.
Yeesssss finally another video
🙏🏽🙌🏽
@@equinoxgts does it keep u in lift ??? Better than stock ?
i just did the shifter cable bushings today and was planning on doing the short shifter tomorrow. good timing on the video.

MORE CELICA VIDEOS ! 😂 and videos of you driving I’m tryna hear the exhaust haha
Bc the 6 gear is already tough enough?
Love the video. Great work! I have the same problem with my shift knob. I put a good amount of plumbers tape on the thread. Try it out!
That shift knob is gigantic.
They are a job to do but totally worth it in my opinion. Great video
Totally agree and thanks!

All good, I upgraded to a mishimoto shift knob
my favorite celica on youtube😆

What about just cutting and rethreading????
Nice video, I have this kit laying around in trunk for about 9 months ...if you can do it, I'll have to do it soon :-)
That’s the motto, if I can do it, anybody can do it lol
Did you forget to put the original plastic piece that holds shifter boot from sliding down?
I just didn’t put it back on bc my boot isn’t loose enough where it slides down on its own.
Do you plan on installing a detachable steering wheel at any point
Not any time soon
I remember doing this to my Celica. It really does suck. Short throw feels way better than the stock shifter though so it's worth it
I was about to install a short throw shifter, but I realized I don't even have a Celica :'(
It’s ok, just install it in your pretend celica 😎
@@equinoxgts I just installed it. It was a PIA.
this car sounds so goooooooooooooooooooood

Ooo good idea! But I ended up just switching the knob anyways bc it felt awkward now that the shifter sits lower.
dude i did this a few months ago it was the worst but the results are worth it 💯🤣
Exactly lmao
Dude I thought the gts had a short shifter?
I believe only the sports m did, which wasn’t available in the states
