I have watched that well over 25 times, and every time I am just blown away. I think it is the best live performance I have ever seen. The song was originally recorded by them in 1967. So powerful.❤️

Agreed 100%.... This is the greatest live performance of a single song ever recorded. It's much better than the original studio recording. Hard to believe music can be this beautiful. Gary was an amazing artist.... the world is a better place because of you.

Cimdy I enjoyed your reaction to the song, and it is indeed a monumental song for me. ..as I was on my way to work on a cold winters day in 1967 over my 1957 Chevy's radio I suddenly heard an eerie, but beutiful sounding organ and my ears and soul went up like a high fly ball as I said to myself what is this ? Then I heard this Heartrwenching voice, and could've sword I was levetating. .well needless to say it was the Procol Harum's new song A WHITER SHADE OF PALE. ...A few weeks later I was on my way to serve my country for 3 years, ,Viet-Nam and Germany, but the whole time I was in I carried that song with me, ahh ! the power of music !!...it's always there when you need it

Great concert! Salty Dog, Conquistador, Simple Sister, all a part of this show. Procol Harum is an English band, many great tunes and some famous band alumni, Robin Trower being one.
Gary Brooker, the singer, was a player on George's All Things Must Pass album, and a recurring member of Ringo's All-Star Band.
Fun fact for you: Paul McCartney met Linda while attending a Procol Harum show in a London club.
Love your reaction, and that smile! 🌹

    Step 1 - Orchestra prelude
Step 2 - Gary Brooker and orchestra
Step 3 - Gary Brooker + orchestra + band (Procol Harum) + choir
“A WHITER SHADE OF PALE” was released by Procol Harum in 1967 and it was their first single
    ❤ RIP Gary Brooker 1945 - 2022
*PROCOL HARUM is a latin expression that means "beyond these things”, but the legend tells that was a Burmese Blue cat, that belonged to a friend of the band and that he lived until 1972. The cat’s name was actually "Procul Harun", but the cat’s name was misspelled.

That was much better than I expected. The organ parts are lifted from Bach, so adding the orchestration makes sense. I liked that rather than try to recreate the original sound that broke the top-ten back in 1967 they adapted the song to sound like something Paul McCartney or Joe Cocker or Elton John might have sung in the decades in between. It wasn't really until the familiar organ riff kicked in during the segues that they brought the song back to 1967, but without the maudlin nostalgia that can easily wreck such performances. I've always considered them a one hit wonder, so I can't recommend other songs by them. But I can recommend other songs that share a similar sound, if not feel -- Joe Cocker "You Are So Beautiful To Me" from 1974, Blind Faith "Can't Find My Way Home" from 1969, and even Sam Cooke "A Change Is Gonna Come" from 1964.

    • @jeffreybooth5129

Not a one hit wonder, but should have done much better than they did, vastly underrated.

I don't have to say anything....you said it all brilliantly. As this mirror tells it's tale's ........I wandered through my life playing cards.....wondering what my letter would be...knowing it's soon to end.....I know my face will turn....... a whiter shade pale. John Lennon said this was his favorite song......it inspired him to do many of his works. 💖🎼💖🎹💖🌈💖

Jot down on you recording calendar to consider playing, from the same concert and same orchestra "Conquistador". But only if a few people agree with me. Same act. Same instruments. A little less perfect, but a little more "kick you in the tail".
