Solo Winter Camping in the Snowy Mountains - Below Zero

- I spent a week solo camping in the Snowy Mountains of NSW, Australia. This first video was just a simple overnighter to test my gear before I would load back up for the remainder of the week and journey further into the valley. It reached below zero while I was out there and it was pretty incredible to experience this place on my own for the first time. Thanks for watching!

Fantastic start to what I don't doubt is going to be an awesome snow series. I'm feeling a little bit too privlaged on my own snow trip after watching this. I had the luxery of a hut on my first night, but you were packing up in the ice and snow from the very first night haha mad respect for staying out there as long as you did.

Do not take for granted your time on this earth, for there are many things to see and little time to see them.
The earth is a garden of ever changing seasons. It is filled with creatures big and small, that you will find in the tiniest of cracks and on the highest of mountains, deep in the big blue sea, and those that lurk only in the shadows. I think it was 2 years ago that I went with a friend to shining rock wilderness in NC and we had this crazy blizzard. I had my winter hammock setup on that trip. I learned A.) it's good to have a synthetic layer over your down quilt/bag to take the moisture from your body that would otherwise get trapped in your down. B.) I'm an idiot for not having snowshoes in 17" of snow. C.) as much as I love my hammock, a spacious tent for winter is worth the weight for the sake of my sanity to have refuge from the constantly blowing wind. I like seeing your awesome adventures dude keep it up!
That’s a really great bit of advice about the synthetic layer over the sleeping bag. I notice the bivvy shows signs of doing that so I can imagine a proper synthetic bit of layering would do a really good of doing that. Thanks mate! Valuable lessons!
And yeah, look, I really really did enjoy the experience of the tarp, I did do that on purpose, but I’ve done it now and I look forward to some luxury of a winter tent next year 🙌

Haha! Oh I don’t know. 1 degree was pretty damn freezing as well 😂 It’s so funny how conflicting it is, so incredibly beautiful but so unforgiving haha! It really makes you appreciate it though when you have to work for it. I’m editing the second one right now and some of the scenes are soooo breathtakingly stunning. I’m glad I wasn’t too cold to appreciate it and get out to film it 😂

a lightweight tarp would have been good to help secure your tent and give a bit of added protection from the elements and add a bit extra shelter especially when the snow was invading your tent set up
Hey mate, yeah absolutely. I go out with only a Tarp and bivy for the remainder of the week, I just wanted to test out the new pack but definitely could’ve done with taking the tarp along haha

Nah I find the bacon fat plenty enough to grease it up. I usually cook anything else up in the bacon fat too. 😄

Hey mate, the leather gloves I use for that sort of stuff are just a pair of Milwaukee Gloves. They’re actually really good. The longest lasting set I’ve had, nice and tough.
