      @@MatrixMaverick1980 Yeah I'm a Linux user, but I also do visual/web design, audio production, and video production. Obv MacOS is the media-workstation standard, and I've often found myself considering buying a Macbook Pro. But I also sort of a hate Apple, and if I bought one I'd definitely end up using MacOS instead of Linux to get the true benefits. But with the M1's performance in video rendering it's even harder to say no.
      Fun fact, look into the Linux for Apple Silicon project. Some hopeful work being done there.

      @Watcher I've honestly never attempted it in KVM/QEMU. I "might" be running MacOS in VMware Workstation though, and it may have a slightly noticeable, but not unmanageable performance penalty. I wonder if it would perform better with QEMU/KVM?

    If you like Linux, chances are you'll like MacOS because MacOS is a Unixoid operating system, with a package manager like Brew, MacOS is even more fun.
    And a Mac is not as closed as some here claim, you can install applications either or from the AppStore or from any source on the internet like Linux or Windows.
    And if necessary, you can run Linux in a VM, possibly soon even natively as a dual boot (Asahi Linux).

    My spouse, a teacher, has recently gotten one of these Macbook Airs lately. Part of a German government initiative for the pandemic - laptops for teachers. And of course Apple got their dirty fingers on the contract. Now all the teachers got a macbook air, with absolutely no accessories, no adapters and no licenses. While the school operates with windows, has a windows server with windows network drives, projectors with HDMI (or even still VGA) ports and 90% of the staff have never even seen a Mac.
    so they just need some of those apple TV boxes then you say? Yeah, the Laptops were provided as the teachers' personal equipment by the federal state. and the projectors and hardware to connect to them are part of the building which is run by the municipal council. And they say, nope. Ain't got money for that.
    BIG SUCCESS!!

As the governerment needed almost 20 months from deciding to buy laptops to actually doing it and getting them to the teachers they either bought their own laptop or don't use any anyway. There is no MS-Office license with them (which is waht it taught to the kids and generally used) and due to the lack of connectivity they all now have an expensive toy at home that they just keep in the box and don't use at all.

    The hard part is accessing common files on hardware accessible to all Systems. I run macOS, Windows and Linux and end up duplicating way too much stuff. Linux's and Window's dated formats hold back macOS if you try and maintain commonality.

    • @DSTechMedia
      @DSTechMedia 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dated formats? I'm not sure what you're referring to there. But yeah, I have a mostly Linux home network with a couple Windows machines running for specific things. It's WAY too difficult to get just Samba on Linux to work well with Linux, and sometimes you can't even figure out what the issue is. I think they need to work on that since Samba is clearly intended to work with Windows shared directories.
      For a long time I ran a VMware ESXi machine with all of my servers/files. But now with all of the HD video projects, graphics, and music I can probably justify setting up a dedicated NAS. I might go the wild way and run a Plan 9/Inferno NAS server built on Venti.

    The problem with Linux for me is I can not find any decent equivalents to all the amazing suite of macOS Apps, plus the huge selection of commercial macOS only Apps.
    As a designer with several PCs and Macs I am looking for a solution where I not just open and edit my documents on all my Systems: macOS, Windows 10 and Zorin OS, but can easily access my resources without duplicating them.

    Apple is such a unique beast. I think their hardware is excellent, and their software often works well (although I ran into my fair share of bugs when I had iPhone / Mac), but their methodology of pushing users to use Apple-only services has rubbed me very much the wrong way.
    Apple has almost become a religion. I don't like religion.

  • @AliensInc.
    @AliensInc. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Apple still have the 50V line next to the 1V that goes into the CPU and one drop on that connector blows the CPU.
    Have had this for 9(?) years as what Louis Rossman says.
    Bad design made just to make you buy a new one.

    • @John7No
      @John7No 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      although this used to be correct, I don't think it applies on the new ones, the majority of Mac users tend to have their devices for quite a long time. Yes there are always failures, but iMac, Mac mini and MacBooks tend to age quite well. The comment of having it to make you buy more is not really true. Bad design yes.
      Louis says many truths, but you always have to keep on the back of your mind that he was making money out of servicing/fixing Apple devices. He lost most of his income when Apple shifted towards on non-easily repaired hardware. So this is not an objective point of view. just saying.

    Another good video, this time on Mac integration. You didn't touch on the aspect of mounting and integrating the Apple File System (APFS) in Linux, in such a way that one could even copy files from and to a Mac and do other things.
    BTW, the choice of your sponsor, MeisterTask, is a bit meh. It is an interesting solution but clients exist for MacOS, Windows, Android and iOS. Where is the Linux client? Ok, one can use it in the browser but the others have dedicated clients. Nothing against proprietary and paid solutions, as long as they are valuable and improve your life...and don't spy you.
