Gotta love Schlager at 9:33. It seems as if he is enjoying just anything no matter how "small" the achievement is (ending up 3rd). Taking it easy. And why not, he was World Champion. Cool motherf***er.
It is really nice to see Baum playing at this level again. Very exciting. After reaching world rank 29 in Feb, he has plummeted back down to 50. You definitely don't want to see that kind of trend in a young player. Hopefully he starts moving back up now.
I like Baum's variation in blocking, like placement, aggressive and passive block, there are a lot of changes in rhythm. However, he needs to be more dynamic like Michael Maze to give more trouble to Boll!
German players were in an impresive form,a mention for Suss and especially Baum, who was beatin 2 great names in t.t,Samsonov and Schlager Anyway, all players, boys and girls altogether, show some lack of enthusiasm, due mabe to the empty hall where matches took place or,more probably, due to completly lack of money prizes!
My thoughts: Waldner was the best player ever, and had the most incredible longevity. But his style was not as exciting as it could have been because of his block and smash tendencies. I respect Waldner's abilities more than any other player, but imho, the most *exciting* players to watch of the last 30 years are: 1) Wang Liqin, 2) Timo Boll, 3) Joo Se Hyuk, 4) Jan Ove Waldner 5) Can't decide on 5th - Schlager? Grubba? Persson? Appelgren? Long? But I'm leaning toward J.p. Gatien as my 5th.
if Baum want to have a chance against timo, he needs to stay closer to the table and don't engage in those long rallies. also because Baum is not playing with coach he doesnt have a clear strategy. i enjoyed Baum's matches against Samsonov and Schalager. i think he is a talented player with good technique. he also has to stop doing that slow loop to start this attack, against Timo that is just asking for it.
Why are there so many funny parts on this video?? xD Very nice match, Timo played an interesting match, showing why he is Europe´s #1, Baum wasnt that bad, he just needed to keep on doing intelligent stuff instead of getting in long rallys with TB.
baum started the match motivated and sharp, but timo's spin variations dulled his edge. spin based players are his weakness, he obviously wants to engage in hitting and blocking contests where he excells.
how many hidden jokes are in this video? haha first the other players are just texting then there was a running table tennis bat that tripped then a camera man with table tennis balls for eyes
GREAT VIDEO! Except spectacular table tennis we also get to see the dumbest mascot ever borned, as well as Franziska, Ovctharov, Rosskopf and Schlager texting while the final is going on.
