- Here's my approach to observing this Easter Egg, with smooth transitions between Wacky Workbench's time frames. Read the annotations as they appear if you can.

6/23/17 UPDATE: Happy 26th Birthday to Sonic! If you can't see the annotations, just follow the video and what I say below:
There's a certain spot in Wacky Workbench Act 1 that will change depending on the time frame you're in. First, I get to that spot in the Present, then I show off that spot in the Good Future. As you can see in the video, both of these time frames have nothing to show.
However, when I go into the Past and the Bad Future, things get interesting. After showing the Good Future, I show off the same spot in the Past. It's now opened up where Sonic can reach a hidden room with old bricks and a green angel statue. This statue will release a fountain of Rings from her hand when you get close to her.
In the Bad Future, this secret spot changes. It has instead a golden Eggman statue that you can destroy. Doing so will cause a bunch of bombs to rain down in the spot, but you can easily dodge them even though I didn't do so in this video.

Turns out that finding the angel statue gives you an achievement in the HD XBL/PSN/Steam port of the game. It's called "Statue Savior".
From what I'm seeing, trying to get to it is different in those ports than in this original Sega CD version. Unfortunately I don't have that HD port yet, so I wouldn't know unless I checked someone else's video and started comparing them.

Someome had to make that statue in that part of the little planet and since this is in the past, it should be an old cultur. Someone also had to make the Stardust Speedway and some other buildings and places in the past of the planet. And Eggman just did the modern robotic thinks.

Makes sense. The level obviously existed for long enough to get an animation in the credits so if there was work done on the stage it would have been a waste not to fit some of it in somewhere

@@stackmin5220 It’s not called “Relic Ruins”, it’s just called R2 (short for “Round 2”, because Zones are called Rounds in Sonic CD).
It’s been so many years, and yet no one ever bothered to ask someone at Sega what the _actual_ prototype names for R2 were. I’d really like to know someday.

Sonic CD is probably my least played 2D sonic, but I noticed a lot of details they took and put in Sonic Mania after playing so much of it.
Like Sonic's freezing animation being the same from Marble Press act 2, and how near the top of the screen, there is an area that resembles those electric fence things in Flying Battery act 2

Yeah! Sonic CD's more open level design helps it a lot too! I'd want a sequel with even more secrets than before! Better yet, make an open world Sonic game with the same overworld concept as the fangame Mega Man X Corrupted. I would buy that.
Present: no statue.
Good future: no statue, was planned to place an unused sonic statue
Past: angel statue that gives you rings
Bad Future: eggman statue that, if you destroy it, bombs will explode you

I must say, thank you for this. I usually prefer to take on these challenges myself, but I looked everywhere I could possibly think of for the statue myself, with nothing to show for it.
That sucks, howd you find out about it though? I mean if i found out about it, id look around for it too but usually id just try to find it from the source.
I remember finding this in the Sega CD version over 20 years ago and to this day I still wonder what that angel statue is all about. Is it a cameo of a character from another game?

Sonic would prefers the green angel statue in the past over the orange "Eggman" Robotnik statue in the bad future anyday. The green angel statue would gives him a lot of free rings, while the orange Eggman statue would gives him a booby trap that would makes lose rings, even killed him, if he doesn't have any rings with him. Also, the angel statue is nowhere near as "homey" as the Eggman statue as well.

This will be helpful for those who purchased Sonic Origins Plus and are willing to destroy the Eggman statue with Knuckles or Amy.
I here for this reason, i beat the whole game as Amy and never found It, Discovery later that you only can see this on Bad Future, so decide to do a New playtrought as Knuckles 🤣

Wacky Workbench is hard. And is a massive headache. I'm pretty sure that everyone despises it.
Actually its my favorite Sonic CD stage because its wacky nature is just more fun to me that holding Right and pressing jump every now and than again as I do with the rest of the game.
Only the one hit kill thing in the last phase of the Boss is really stupid.

I Had To Say Sega CD Is A America Only Mega CD Version.
There Are 2 Reasons: 1. The Mega CD Uses Japanese Music While The Sega CD Uses American Music.
2. Each Version Has A Different Startup.
