Making ham a woman just throws off the whole dynamic of the crew, with vin being the only woman, if there are other women she is going to naturally be more trusting of the crew, and not nearly as skeptical as she is in the book. She would also side with ham, and get much closer to him, if they turned him into a woman, because vin would naturally probably feel more comfortable being with the woman in the group. I'm not saying there aren't women in thriving crews, camon had plenty of women, but they were beaten and raped who knows how much, so vin, who is already incredibly untrusting of people, joins into an only man crew, and slowly, through the course of the book, gets to know the crew, and know that she is fine, and that they are good men. Also ham is well...ham. I know why Brandon is doing it cause there's not very other main female leads, but there can still be plenty of noble women that are on screen, like shan. So I hope Brandon doesn't change the dynamic of the crew.
