Certain paints can be dry yet not be done off-gassing. Those fumes can cause cure inhibition so give painted surfaces a bit of extra time to finish off-gassing after it's dry.
I made a mold yesterday from an acrylic piece which cost me multiple hours to make, and the result of the molding was a sticky mess. The leftovers did cure fine; only the surfaces in contact with the acrylic were affected. I searched the internet for answers, and I found this video which explains what happened.

Yes! The old hot glue I would get at Hobby lobby never had issues but the stuff I’ve bought recently inhibited the silicone. I’m on the lookout for which hot glue is suspect. That will definitely be a future video topic.

I have been trying to make a mold of a poplar wood piece i made. what would be the best thing to seal the poplar and stop the inhibition .i am using bbdino mold maker and it will not dry and when i pull the piece out there are holes and the mold is very sticky>

Hi, you said "some SLA resins & 3D printing materials". Do you know of at least one 3D printing resin brand that does not inhibit a reaction? Thank you
@@casade2831 you can cure the resin out in the sun for a few days and let it off gass for a few weeks or use some layer on the print that won't inhibit the cure like a paint, or something called inhibit-x thats advertised exactly for sla resin
I was working on that silicone baby doll project I’ve mentioned before… First batch in my mold did great, totally clean, but there were some bubbles I missed. When I tried to fill in the bubbles (by reusing the mold and first casting and filling the voids), I got a puddle of completely uncured goop all over the original casting. Now, given that my partner gave me the plastic spoons, I don’t know if they were brand new or washed in the dishwasher. I thought I had used the plastic cup brand for mixing before, but it was a new package… So I think I’ve narrowed it down to those two tools. But… how do I clean the ruined silicone off the mold and the doll and properly decontaminate both? I can seal the mold, but I need the silicone to adhere to the doll… Any tips? (You can ignore this next part because it’s midnight and I kinda went on a ramble. Sorry.) It’s so nasty and goopy. 😭 I think it must have been the mixing implements if only because the whole batch was like…clotted slime at best. I mean, thankfully it was a tiny batch (about 20ml to fill in the voids in my test mold), but I don’t want to scrap what I DID manage to make in the initial batch… (the mold was a mouth for a premade doll-gums, tongue, etc-because I wanted to start small but detailed in preparation for making a full custom baby doll. Also because I opened the baby’s mouth so it could suck its thumb or maybe a pacifier (not tested-wanted to avoid contamination), but then having a carved out maw kinda freaked me out.)

Silicone lubricant is very different from release agent. That said, you should not be using any silicone based release when making a silicone mold as you will either get a bond or cure inhibition.
I have heard mixed reports on SLA resins. There are some that do not inhibit platinums and some that do. Hopefully we can compile a list of compatible resins at some point.

@bitymoldsupply I've used metallic duct-work tape to seal the seams in my boxes, and it works excellent!
How would you remove the uncured silicone from a resin print after it didn't fully cure?
Depends on what silicone you are using and what the print medium is.

Unfortunately, not all platinum silicones are created equal. That formula is VERY sensitive to cure inhibition, hence the low cost. :(
Any recommendations for other silicone ? For 3d printed parts ?
Our 5092 sets over just about any surface. It is a Tin Cure formula that is almost impossible to contaminate.

If I have a mold I had run foam latex in, will I be able to do a silicone cast in the prosthetics mold?
Clean the mold with acetone first and then run a small test.

Do you use the EF or standard version of the Clear Guard?
For this test I used the regular, not the EF.

Couldn't you have just smeared petroleum jelly over it to keep from sticking?
