So far, I've used the machine to cut a variety of wood up-to about 1/2" thick when doing multiple passes. I wasn't successful at cutting metal, although I was able to get it to engrave aluminum slightly when it was covered with a think plastic. I suspect though if the metal was painted, it would have more success, though I doubt it would be capable of actually cutting aluminum. 20 watts just isn't enough. That said, it does cut wood beautifully. I'm working on a new video that will showcase a bunch of projects that feature detailed wood cutting as well as engraving using the machine. All-in-all, it's a great little machine that is very easy to use. Highly recommended!
