He was already, in a class of his own even then. @:22 "I don't know how he did that!" It's not as hard, as it looks, but Efren makes it look so easy. (I was also an instructor, for 10 years.) The key is to strike the cueball high, with a flat cue. This raises the object ball ever so slightly* off the table, as it passes the 8-ball. * (Since the balls are round), only the center edge, of the 7-ball, needs to clear the center edge of the 8-ball.

All that hard work getting back, it was a low low percentage shot, I'm baffled why a player with his years of experience went for that, but Reyes was absolutely the worthy winner, great shot on the 7, which could also have gone very wrong, but didn't, and the rest is history 🤙

The reason Efren hit the ball so hard on that second shot is because he was using follow. If he hit it slower it was likely to scratch. When using follow or draw, the harder you hit the cue ball, the further along the tangent line it will travel before taking effect. Efren knows this. In other words the follow had no effect on the cue ball after hitting the object ball until after it hit the first rail. These shots do come up once in a blue moon. Even a lot of good players don't know this Ive found. Efren is not your average good player. Another thing a lot of good players neglect is the diamond system. Efren is a master of that too.

When your up ageist an opponent that can do magical shot like the 7, there is no safe! It go hard or go home that last round I would have taken the shot the same way he done
you should watch the match between efren against strickland where efren invented the Z shot or the zigzag shot in their hill hill match. thats was the greatest match in billiard history for me.
