The Lions were more worried about looking impressive than just winning. They did the exact opposite of what the Eagles do. Their run game was unstoppable but they had to run trick plays and take risky shots down field. If they stuck to the run, they win that game.
I vividly remember the iconic Broncos vs. Redskins game and Doug Williams' remarkable comeback in the second half to secure the victory. During the 1991 season, the Buffalo Bills were a defensive powerhouse. Many believed it was their destined moment to finally win the Super Bowl, especially after reaching the big game for the fourth consecutive year, only to be met with disappointment once again under the leadership of Jim Kelly. My father was an ardent Redskins fan and frequently traveled to Washington, D.C., for work. On weekends, our routine was watching Notre Dame on Saturdays and the Washington games on Sundays. My children grew up experiencing years of middling performances from the team, with occasional glimmers of hope that never quite led to greatness. This season has been different. The turning point for me was the game against the Bengals; it was then that I realized something special was unfolding. Even my children noticed the change, asking if this was how it felt in the past. I told them that this time, it felt even more extraordinary. From that moment, I knew the league would soon recognize the potential of our team. It’s not a question of "if" but "when" Washington will demonstrate its full capabilities.
It’s been a long time but you’re slightly misremembering that 87 team Super Bowl. Broncos did take a 10-0 lead in first with an elway bomb early. But skins scored 5 tds in the epic second quarter. Then coasted in second half.
I am a Lion's fan , but I am also ok with Washington making the Super Bowl if they do it. I believe the Lions thought this game would be easy, since they were playing Washington who had a horrible reputation the last 20 years, 10 point underdogs and with a rookie. I don't think the Rams or Eagles will make that mistake, they will see Washington as a real contender, still, if the Commanders play the same ball they have been playing, JD5 is going to the super bowl.
What have the Lions done in the last 20 yrs ? Oh that's right absolutely!! So sick of Lions fan acting they are back to back super bowls champs. I'm so glad they got smoked last night
This team is a good roster, it’s just not the best. That’s what why Jayden Daniel’s has played at this level because he does have good talent around him
Absolutely dominant. I think it gets underrated cuz rypien didn’t have a great or long career. Gibbs winning 3 super bowls with 3 different qbs in basically a 10 yr stretch is not heralded enough.
DQ, KLIFF AND Whitt had our guys ready.to play. And the guys executed the plan perfectly. They said we needed to be perfect to win. Jd5 and Co said "that ain't no problem"
@ you do know in the regular season DQ took a team that won 4 games and replaced everyone from ownership to waterboys and replaced over 50% of the roster and had a rookie qb…they won 12 games and landed the 6 seed in the playoffs…..
As I said when I got ripped on here last week....JD5 hung 5TD's on the Eagles a few weeks ago. The Lions defense has heart and played hard, but you can't lose that many players and expect to keep winning. But my biggest complaint is that everyone talks about how garbage the roster is other than Daniels. Luvu, Wagner, Fowler (I called him Crowder last week for some reason) have made a MASSIVE difference to this new defensive scheme and adding Lattimore and Allen for the playoff run is massive. Sure, we "only held" them to 31 points, but compared to other teams that's impressive and we turned them over 5 times. But keep being dismissive of a complimentary defense that got two wins with Mariota this season. I thought that the Lions would win....they have been everyone's sweetheart SB winner pick for good reason and it was sad to see it end....but now that the Commanders are in I am not afraid of anyone left in the NFC....the AFC is another story.
You hit the nail on the head. This roster gets no respect but they've been out there making plays when they need them. But most importantly, Quinn and Peters brought in guys like Wagner, Luvu, Ertz and Ekeler because they are good leaders. This team is playing as more of a team than any other team in the league right now. You can see that "brotherhood" mentality when B Rob comes over and hugs Quinn after his TD. He knew he made a mistake earlier and they still put the ball in his hands and said I believe in you, go get this.
Beating the Detroit Lions will never be considered "greatest anything in history". You obviously do not know anything about the NFL nor the Detroit Lions. Those who do know those two things know this game's captions is: "Same Old Lions".

The sting of losing as a 1 seed is not a consolation ever, As a Redskin I am happy about how we outscored in a non-defensive battle with the Lions. I am thankful and excited to have a dude at QB that can win that kind of game. It has been 40 plus yrs for me as a skins fan. Change in ownership, GM, and luck out with a stud leader at the most imp play maker is real for me?? We won the turnover battle and mistakes made

18 defensive players on IR is what got us. I've also been realizing that Goff just might not be it for the super bowl. NFC North really fumbled the bag this season. Lets see what changes are made post-season, and what happens next season.
Both loosing teams made too many mistakes today... Lions had 5 TO's with a pick 6 and Texans gave up 8 sacks, missed FG, missed extra point, blocked FG, gave up long kickoff return.
I remember the 91 year. The Redskins were top 5 in offense defense and special teams. We had 3 shutouts that season. One of the shutouts was on a playoff team. It was the Lions and the score was 45-0. We lost two and should gone undefeated but vaunted Cowboys stole a victory. The coach didn’t play his starters in the last game and lost to the Eagles. ESPN has voted the 91 Redskins as the best team in history. The 85 Bears had two shutouts. My Redskins had 3 and dominated throughout the playoffs to winning the Superbowl.
Never seen a selfish player such as Kelce. He never blocked but only wanted to catch the ball. Watch the game and see how many crucial blocks he didn't even try to make.

Fun fact time. Since 2018 when Mahomes became the Chiefs starting QB, KC has been penalized for 693 more yards than their opponents (playoffs included). That's the 4th worst penalty yardage differential in the NFL.
I think the collapse of the NFC North in the postseason is an under-reported storyline here. The Lions, Vikings and Packers dominated the regular season, but went 0-3 in the playoffs, and not one of the three losses was particularly close.
I actually thought the Commanders had a shot, just because Jayden's shown himself to be that good and clutch, so I wasn't surprised. On any roughing calls, just instantly review them, since they're dead ball situations afterwards anyways.
So, do you understand why Sean McVay pulled the trigger on Matthew Stafford now. All those turnovers from the Detriot QB in an important game when your best is required.
Agree with the bad calls, but I also saw the 8 sacks, the missed field goal, the blocked kick, and the stopped offense. I've also seen the Chiefs be the most penalized time in the league. Look it up.
NFL needs to fine Mahomes. He knows he gets the calls if it’s at all close and waits to the last possible moment to go out of bounds or slide. It’s ridiculous
Detroit had that game to lose or win. Injuries don't mean nothing, but those turnovers hurt them worse than any broken bones. I think we can say Detroit is a team that can win they just aren't clutch to do it when it matters.

@@RealTH-cam33 let me guess, the refs caused the blocked field goal with the Broncos, the refs caused likely’s toe to be out of bounds in the Ravens first game, the refs caused the Bucs to kick a fg instead of going for the win, then caused KC to win the coin flip so they never saw the ball again, did the refs cause the panthers to kick 4 field goals instead of get touchdowns inside the red zone, did they cause them to lose to Buffalo earlier in the year to make it seem legit?
