The book says monkeys are immortal after Wukong crosses out their names from the Register of Life and Death. However, after he returns from heaven, his monkeys tell him humans have captured their kind for various reasons, including food. Also, the majority of them are killed by heavenly forces following Wukong's capture. That doesn't sound like immortality in the Chinese sense to me.
