  • Well this is it, the long awaited walk through.
    The truck is quite an amazing machine, but you can make it better for a small amount of effort, and modest cash. This video shows how to increase wheel travel and approach and ramp over ground clearance. Obviously no need to fix departure angle!
    Any technical questions on this video, please post and I will do my best to reply. Take care and stay safe everyone.

      obviously I can't say I built it, just modified it a bit. There's some guy in Korea who cooked the motor doing stuff as steep as this, but the gearbox saves the day. Thanks for watching! I got to do something with lots of wheels next but I want 1;10, however the wallet says no! so might be asking your advice soon 😀👍🍺

    You can see these mods in action on the latest video. It's quite an exciting video if you like trail driving / rock crawling, freestyle off-road challenges.

    Awesome video! I just got my rig but noticed the first rear axle jumps even when driving straight. I was going to ask were did you get your tie rods? Awesome fix by the way!

    • @carlbModels
      @carlbModels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made them from universal rod ends, and some 3mm threaded bar. If it jumps, it could be the gears are not meshed properly. OR you've got a problem with the wheel hexes. If you do them up too tight you can break the little pins, then things rub and jump. When you say jump, does it do this with the wheels off the ground, eg put it on its roof and see what happens 👍🇬🇧

      @@carlbModels it’s more like wheel hope and when I flip it I notice there is a ton of torque steer and I feel the rear axles are too loose due to no reinforcing

      ah right, yes mine sort of did that so I did the tie rods. This makes it way better, so if you can do it, go for it! The suspension does have a lot of slack sideways, and not enough up and down..!

    Hey I have a question for you. My cable steering went out on my 2nd axle I fixed it but was thinking if braided fishing line might work better. It is smoother stronger and more flexible

    • @carlbModels
      @carlbModels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi, if it is stronger than steel.... yes, go for it. Although I bet steel is tougher, and where the little screws tighten onto it, steel will last longer.
      Can I suggest that you look at Servo On Axle? you can do away with the cables and have a servo on each axle. Steers a lot faster and more accurately. Do a search on it, I've seen it - might be just what you need. Good luck! 👍🇬🇧

      hi, thankyou! someone elses review of the rear tyres;-
      rcnewb.com/hands-on-with-pro-lines-grunt-1-9-g8-rock-terrain-tires/
      The rear wheels are Injora 1.9 beadlocks, however there are other vendors. Front wheels are from the HG P408, which are plastic but cheaper and easier to bolt together. Plus, they are probably more "purist" if that matters to you. The front tyres are some Absima 1.9 tyres, which are a lot harder than the Prolines, and when they wear out I will get more Prolines.

    what was that about a gear reduction unit on the motor? I have this truck and I think it's to fast. I would like more power and less speed. Thanks.

      well, this;- www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07VRCZ6N5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_NNS45FN18WFS6RKD2M8X?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
      However I reviewed it, so it's up to you. You will need to file the axle to make the pinion fit. It does make the truck a lot slower, but it can push my armchair with me in it. You will need bolts. Good luck, and thanks for posting. It's not too hard to do, you will need to cut the shell a bit to make it fit but it is worth it 👍🍺

    Hello, do you have a link for wheels and tyres? thank you very much :-)

    • @carlbModels
      @carlbModels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hi, tyres on the back are "pro-line" Grunt. They are designed for military models, and run with 1.9 inch wheel. My wheels were Injora metal beadlocks. Sorry no links, got them from ebay, and the tyres from a real model shop. They are very soft and grippy. Front tyres are Absima of some kind 👍🍺🇬🇧
