Granted, her reasons for being so are believeable, however, she only tries to "save" Sato so that she can feel better about herself since she's so consumed with self-loathing to the point where she can't live without someone being worse than her. That's why it annoys me when people say "everyone needs a Misaki." Now, I'm not saying that she's a bad character. If anything she's a great character, just not someone that should be idealized.

Yeah. I think Misaki is genuinely an empathetic and wise person to a FAULT who is the type to instictively help others because she just has big heart. The other side to her that you see is just a byproduct of her loneliness and trauma. She is, in my opinion, on par with Nina Fortner from Monster & Kikyo from Inuyasha when it comes to female characters with the best personalities. All of them very wise and understanding with a big heart.
