@6:14 i see Lord Ganesh on your shelf. Thank you for showing the installation , my room is small around 225 square feet , do you recommend going for Q990D (my friend is in Samsung electronics so he gets me the employee discount) Like 30-40% off. I have 4k OLED S95D installed in the same room over wall :)
How's the music quality on that? How clear the frequencies are? How close the music quality is as compared to a mid range hifi system with av receiver and let's say bookshelf speakers?
Hi, I got this soundbar, and I was wondering if you have the same feeling that when the volume is below 15, the default sounds are very quiet, but the loud sounds are still loud. At +15 volume, everything sounds good, but at night it's impossible to watch a movie
Have you or would you compare this one to LG S95TR? As an LG TV owner, I’m thinking about the Samsung bar but somewhat feel that I’m losing the ecosystem perks because of the Samsung, and LG offers similar things if using their soundbar. Would be interested to hearing your thoughts on sound quality and immersion! Cheers
In Romania from Samsung official market I ordered q990d yesterday, it arrived today at 795,60$. Awesome product, works absolutely great with s90c 65" for my apartment. I got a home cinema dedicated room at my parents house where I run an old Bose 5.1 system with Dolby 5.1 and dts only with 120" projector. The room has been acoustically treated with bass traps and so on. That old system actually is a bit more imersive than this one regarding the separation between speakers. I mean if right speaker plays a sound automatically I recognized that it came from right. Instead with soundbar, it sounds awesome, but this thing I kinda miss.
I'm thinking of upgrading my soundbar. I currently have the Q990B attached to S95C 77". Whilst I accept the Q990D will be an upgrade on what I currently have, there is a new kid on the block that's getting rave reviews, the Sony Theatre Quad. I know it's almost double the price with the subwoofer but it is meant to be in a class of it's own.
I would think its not worth it. The difference between the B, C and D is really mostly some software and HDMI 2.1. If you have 2.5-3k to spend on sound id assume your livingroom also has space for a full home cinema setup, which at that pricepoint would outperform.
I am using a projector, and it will be located far from the soundbar, so physically connecting through HDMI is not an option. Is it worth buying the soundbar to connect wirelessly in this case? Or will there be a significant loss in quality? Thank you in advance!
picked up a used one today, for a dollar at a thrift store. no remote, and missing some of the extra wires, but power and hdmi is here. gonna test it in a few, fingers crossed it works.
It’s worth noting that the HW-990C (from 2023) is just as good as this. You can get that system for some amazing deals right now. Really the only difference is HDMI 120hz pass through. But you can easily find ways around that anyways
Doesn't really matter that much in price. The 990D comes with a 150 euro Samsung cashback and can be bought here in Holland (at Apollo) for 875,- minus 150 makes 725 euro.
How has your experience been with what you received from Woot. I'm on the fence and it's still available from them. Did you in fact receive a 990D and how ya liking it?
Amuone that have tied it with a Samsung TV tht supports Space fit, and Q-symphony? Especially, I'm interessted in knowing how the room correction works, and how good it is?
He mate thanks very much for the great review, and thanks for helping me decide on which one to get and vell I'm lost for words very very impressive, I absolutely love this soundbar money 💰 well spent I think ❤
Just wait a while and see prices dropping. You can Pick-up the C one for 800-900 euros retail. And the D is currently € 1000-1100 already (all u cluding taxes). Its every year the same, official 1600, dropping to 1000, dropping again to arround 800 when the new one is announced 😅 The differences between the models aren't that huge, to pay like double the price the get the new one, on release day.
How does 990D compare to the Sony Quad, in terms of audio quality and surround sound experience? and What would you prefer if you only had the option of getting one of these?
@@JilesMcCoy not sure about your media room layout, but the rear speakers for me get placed close to the centre of the room, where my couch is, and running a power cable from there will definetly look horrible, an create a trip hazard. CON for me an maybe other people with a similar setup

What if i have a Arc only tv- is samsung 8fn-uk version..and an nvidia shields pro what are the best connectivity options to get the best sound output.?
Hello Friend, I own the queue 990C. It was actually my first subwoofer. Technically, I auditioned the Sony A9, which I actually liked better, but when you added the price of the subwoofer and the A9 at the time, it was over two grand. Was able to get the Samsung Q990C for a little over $700 from Samsung. I do think the AI9 was a better system as you’re able to place the speakers wide and a four corners of the room or wherever you want. Sound bars have that directional and it’s just an inherent feature to the product. There’s nothing against Samsung. That being said the good side the Samsung Q990C is absolutely amazing. This product is so well designed for people that don’t know Home theater. Well set up is so simple. as someone who’s coming from a dedicated system with tower speakers it’s surprisingly good. I was constantly looking for places that the 990c was behind the the separate system, one of the things I noticed is the lack of mid levels compared to full tower speakers. a lot of what Samsung and Sony and Sonos are doing is using digital trickery so they don’t have to have giant speakers all over the room. I am definitely not against that and when talking about the Sony A9, I think Sony does the best mixing watch national treasure and it felt like I was hearing things and scenes that I’ve never heard before that’s a good sign. I didn’t get that feeling with the Samsung. The Sony seem to have a little more magic. Did it have $1300 more magic absolutely not maybe $300 more lol
Hi, can you help me out if you can please? I’m just like you I have an iPhone 15 Pro to be exact so I don’t know if that’s causing the issue but my SmartThings app, the option to move the left and right speakers to the front for equalization is missing and I am one of those people that has too small of a space to be able to put them behind me so I would like to have that option. It sounds great now, but after seeing this video, I feel like that option would make the sound even better! I’ve tried to set up the app twice now, but I can’t seem to fix this issue. I thought maybe it was a Wi-Fi issue but changing that didn’t help either. Great review BTW I agree this is an amazing set up!
Hey! Thanks for the kind words. I don't have a solution for your problem unfortunately. I'd call customer support. Just make sure you have the newest app.
When a bought my soundbar (Samsung HW-Q995D) it said it would support DTX:S but when I play a movie from ex PS5 the display on the soundbar say Multi ch. Does it really support DTS:X?? When I play DD, Dolby True and Atmos the display tells me that but nothing when I play DTS or DTS:X.
NOTE WELL: If you're looking for DOLBY Atmos, Your TV must support it, or it won't work even if your soundbar is Dolby Atmos! I have an LG TV that doesn't support ATMOS, and my APPLE TV box doesn't support it either. So all I can use with this "ATMOS" system is Dolby 5.1 surround sound, which still sounds pretty great !!!
I dunno about $1500. But here in the UK Samsung has a cash back offer on the 990D. So its only costing £479. At that price it's certainly worth it. The 990D was currently costing £979
You can do either. I’d try both and see what you like better. Samsung suggests plodding into their soundbar now that they can pass through the full resolution and FPS. Both worked ok for me.
I didn't know you could plug an Xbox or PS5 to the Samsung soundbar is that because of the eArc plugged into the TV? so does that mean if I have a Mac Mini do I plug it into the TV or the soundbar? Mine is coming next week :D
@@JilesMcCoy Thanks for replying Jiles! still confused why plug it into the soundbar? is it acting like an extra HMDI port or the device that is connected to the soundbar rather than the TV, will make it sound better?
@alexisuxdesign the q990d has 2x 2.1 hdmi ports. For xbox series x and ps5, a 2.1 hdmi port means 4k @ 120fps. Most TVs have 1 hdmi 2.1 port. So by routing both xbox and ps5 through the soundbar, you can Utilize it as a switcher. However, if your tv is like mine, a Samsung q90na, port 4 is hdki 2.1 and port 3 which is the eARC port is only hdmi 2.0. That means the console going through the sound bar loses the ability to output 4k@ 120fps. If you plug the sound bar into the 2.1 hdmi port then you lose the bi directional benefit and audio benefit of an eARC port. So basically, DONT plug your ps5 or xbox series x into the soundbar.
I just ordered the Q930D to replace our JBL 5.1 with the detachable surround speakers which we never detach and use. Hoping for better dialogue during movies and a fuller sound.
@@JilesMcCoy i'm happy to report back. I'm basically wrestling with the "Will i notice enough difference in a 4 year old sound bar" to make it worth buying this new model. As i stated, looking for better dialogue, but a couple other things I'm hoping are beneficial. 1. Night mode. I have a 10 year old son who's bedroom is down the hall so i rarely watch tv at night because of him 2. Google assistant - being able to hook it up to our google home stuff and have it play 3. I bought an LG tv in 2017 which if i had a 2018 they improved some connections so hoping to potentially upgrade to a samsung with the Q symphony at the end of of the year for a more seamless connection. All of this stuff kind of feels like "nice to have" even though i'm 50 and make enough to afford upgrades. I just get into this mode of "is it really worth it??
@@Gaming.Monkeys So i hooked up the Q930D to netflix on my laptop and the JBL left configured also to netflix and played a few minutes of Edge of Tomorrow the Tom Cruise movie. I know it's not dolby atmos which is fine but it has lots of thundering action, etc. When they jump out the plane in the Q930D all the wires of the jump were very crisp and stood out. The JBL was very flat sounding comparitively. Last night we watched the new episode of Power of the Rings. I noticed so much more depth in the audio, the surround was nice. There was also a point where the audio stopped and then the scene had big audio segue and we almost jumped! So, i definitely am happy with the difference. Music is maybe not as amazing as watching movies. I did notice setting it to Adaptive for music vs. Surround had a richer feel. For $717 on woot, i think it's worth it. Now i want to get a samsung TV during black friday as our 7 year old tv looks pretty dark a lot of the time. I think the combo will be a pretty big upgrade. Hope that helps!
Q990D is the best choice for movies and better up firing speakers providing the true Dolby atmos experience. Sonos is best when it comes to playing music throughout your house
@ Only 1 soundbar system? Maybe the Dragon with dual subs? From a mass market point of view. There are a bunch of high end soundbars that I would rather go for though.
Due to my experience with Samsung electronic devices, I am skeptical of buying another one. I got a TV and a Soundbar months apart and they both also suddenly just died months apart. Seems like their is an expiry date on their devices 😂.
I had the Q990B and to be honest was not impressed maybe i had it set up wrong but i found the sub lacking and the rears to be almost non existence so i sold it then got the BOSE 900 its pretty good but still is missing something so i am gonna give Sonos a try gonna start with the BEAM 2 + Sub Mini + ERA 100's its for a 12x14 foot room with 7.5 foot ceiling if i am still not satisfied i will try the ARC ULTRA + Gen 4 Sub + ERA 100's or the ERA 300's hopefully i can find my happy space lol great review cheers from Canada

What size is your TV? I'm guessing 55. I have a Samsung OLED C4 55 and my CREATIVE SXFI CARRIER is short and thick and it doesn't get in the way of the TV. The dimensions of the Q990D is smaller so it won't get in the way. The Q990 is longer so I hope it isn't longer than a 55 in, otherwise it won't look good. If the Samsung Q990D is better than the CREATIVE SXFI CARRIER then I'll return the SXFI CARRIER.
@@JilesMcCoy Mine just arrived this morning. It's as long as my 55 at the back and the second corner from the front is just a few mils longer. It looks OK. Looks better on TVs bigger than 55.
I got to hear the 1300x at AAL this year and I thought it was good. I would need to have some time with it to have a strong opinion, but it was for sure good. They Samsung is really dang good though.
Nice review, but I would never recommend connecting a gaming console to a soundbar as this will certainly increase input latency. You're much better off connecting consoles directly to your TV and setting the display to pass through the audio to the sound bar via e arc.
@@danno4800 Check your research. How can input latency be better (lower) if the signal has to pass through the hdmi of the sound bar and then into the TV, rather than the console being directly connected to the display. This 'is not rocket science.
@Jamic9 However, this might not be ideal. For example, many TVs don't support decoding of DTS formats. In case your soundbar supports DTS and your TV doesn't, you'll want to connect your media players directly to the soundbar.

I also wanted to upgrade our bedroom soundsystem from an onn 5.1.2 soundbar system.
I was SHOCKED at how much better the 990d was from the Vizio Elevate, which is usually a consensus top pick for the money spent. Didnt think it could be that much better for a soundbar system. The overall sound profile is so much fuller, biggest change is the front side sound feeling filled in now and its a huge difference.
Hurt my soul to spend $700 for a soundbar that i wasnt even sure would be an upgrade from what i had, but jesus am i glad i did. Havent watched any movies yet, just gaming, but its been huge

The Q990d is a very good soundbar. The only one I like more is the Dragon but it is much much more expensive.

How's the music quality on that? How clear the frequencies are? How close the music quality is as compared to a mid range hifi system with av receiver and let's say bookshelf speakers?
I think the system way better than just a set of bookshelf speakers. No comparison.
For music and also tv, this or Kef LSX II LT?
@ will you add a sub to the KEF? If so then do the KEF is you don’t need surrounds.
Hi, I got this soundbar, and I was wondering if you have the same feeling that when the volume is below 15, the default sounds are very quiet, but the loud sounds are still loud. At +15 volume, everything sounds good, but at night it's impossible to watch a movie
I haven’t had any issues like that.
Can this be setup via bluetooth? I want to pair it to my Samsung projector.
It can connect via bluetooth.
Cheers
If I can get my hands on the LG I will. I've not heard it before though.
@medroid what did you settle on? I'm in the same situation at the moment.
Sound bars are wonderful, but they don't replace a large home theater.
I can’t wait to try one out!
I would think its not worth it. The difference between the B, C and D is really mostly some software and HDMI 2.1. If you have 2.5-3k to spend on sound id assume your livingroom also has space for a full home cinema setup, which at that pricepoint would outperform.
For 3000 you really have to want the Sony. It seems really cool though!
Yeah it’s not worth the upgrade.
No Q Symphony on the Sony. I would not give that up especially if I dropping a lot more money.
Any known issues pairing the q990d with Sony bravia3?
Not that I know of. Just plug in the HDMI.
I am using a projector, and it will be located far from the soundbar, so physically connecting through HDMI is not an option. Is it worth buying the soundbar to connect wirelessly in this case? Or will there be a significant loss in quality? Thank you in advance!

It’s worth noting that the HW-990C (from 2023) is just as good as this. You can get that system for some amazing deals right now. Really the only difference is HDMI 120hz pass through. But you can easily find ways around that anyways

Just wait a while and see prices dropping. You can Pick-up the C one for 800-900 euros retail. And the D is currently € 1000-1100 already (all u cluding taxes).
Its every year the same, official 1600, dropping to 1000, dropping again to arround 800 when the new one is announced 😅

Thanks for watching and the comment.
Hi, can you help me out if you can please? It sounds great now, but after seeing this video, I feel like that option would make the sound even better!
I’ve tried to set up the app twice now, but I can’t seem to fix this issue. I thought maybe it was a Wi-Fi issue but changing that didn’t help either. Great review BTW I agree this is an amazing set up!

You can plug it to either spot.
@@JilesMcCoy Thanks for replying Jiles! still confused why plug it into the soundbar? is it acting like an extra HMDI port or the device that is connected to the soundbar rather than the TV, will make it sound better?
@@AlexisUXDesign This is just Samsung's recommendation. I can't tell a difference.
This is information I needed thank you! I have the same tv. What sucks is I have a Xbox and PS5 and only one hdmi 2.1 port on the tv.@@JacobH-z8u

Nice review, but I would never recommend connecting a gaming console to a soundbar as this will certainly increase input latency. You're much better off connecting consoles directly to your TV and setting the display to pass through the audio to the sound bar via e arc.
Thanks for watching!
Apparently it's better through the sound bar actually according to all my research
Also goes for dolby atmos..the 990d supports it, but if your tv doesn't, now you can decode it via soundbar
