WOW! I use to live in Santa Monica over 20 years ago. I now live on Miami Beach, FL. I do visit LA, but I've not been back since then, so I was shocked to see this video of how it looks like today. The Sand & Surf use to be the Mann Criterion 6 movie theatre. I'm shocked that so many stores and restaurants are closed. The Third Street Promenade is so empty! Sunday use to be sooooo packed on the weekends. That huge empty 1940's storefront at Santa Monica and Wilshire use to be a GAP store. That giant orange bldg by the alleyway use to be a Hooters 20 years ago. WOW! That REI store closed down? Damn, Urban Outfitters is still around for 20 years? The AMC Broadway Theatre was originally owned by Cineplex Odeon. I love that store. WOW! Oh yeah, I was there that afternoon when that car plowed down the Farmer's Market and killed 10 people and like 70 people got injured. It was so busy that day, and I had just left the area and was walking home. Horrific scene. After that, Santa Monica PD put patrol cars at both ends of the Farmer's Market to stop anyone from driving down the street. Thanks for the video!!!

Thanks, for the comment, John (Jhon?). That whole place was the center of my universe for probably 10-15 years, so to see it now the way it is, like you express, is heartbreaking. I went over to Main Street which was fine. Lots of stores, lots of people. I went over to Westwood to take it look, and it was fine. I may go to other locations as well, but for some reason 3rd Street Promenade seems to be taking the brunt of all of the Santa Monica areas. Not sure why that is, but it's a mess as you can see.

@@ScottBentona Yeah, I miss living in Santa Monica. I did visit last July and October 2023 but it was quick. This year will spend a couple of hours and walk around. I need to get a Hot Dog on a Stick.

@@jhoncornejo9358 - Now that you bring it up, I should probably head over to the Santa Monica Pier (and that whole Big Dean's/Hot Dog On A Stick areas), and see what's happening there. I know Venice is a mess, even more so than it usually is which I also intend to check out, but this is not the same Santa Monica you remember in general. Much different vibe, and definitely no fun any longer.
