    Hello guys, I need to make a quick correction: the Twi expression for 'later', as used in this lesson, is 'akyire yi', and not just 'akyire'. In normal speech, we do tend to say it as though it's a unit (something like 'akyirei') but please note that it's 'akyire yi'. Meda mo ase!

    This sentence I should have used at the airport:
    Mepa wo kyɛw, memm bɔume
    (don't cheat me)
    And to know the word Ɔbua just helped me to get a confirmatiion on what I had been suspecting when someone warned a friend of mine 😃👍 it helps to understand a language well... I need to study much more and harder 😊

    thank you a lot for all those videos!
    why is it "meretɔ" and not "metɔ" when the verb is "tɔ" though? with all other verbs I have seen before, it was enough to add the personal pronouns before them, I didn't quite understand why there is a "re" in between the personal pronoun and the rest of the verb in this case. Thank you again for your help:)

    • @learnakan
      @learnakan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The "re" is the progressive/continuous marker. This is equivalent to the "-ing" that you attach to English verbs to show that the action of the verb is ongoing. So, just "metɔ" will be "I buy", but "meretɔ" is "I'm buying".
      We'll delve more into this when we get to verb tenses.

    Mepa wo kyew, in the negative 'menni' is ni another verb for have or...?

    • @learnakan
      @learnakan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nah, Joanna. This is an irregular verb so the positive has no correlation in form with the negative. The positive form is "wɔ (to have)". We'll look at these when we get to our verbs.

    What's the difference between "wo and "wu"?
    For example:
    Wo ho te sɛn? (How are you?)
    Wo papa ho te sɛn? (How is your father?)
    Wu kunu ho te sɛn? (How is your husband?)

    • @learnakan
      @learnakan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      wo = you (in the case of your context, i.e. it has other meanings)
      wu = to die
      It's the same "wo" used in "wo kunu ho te sɛn?", not "wu", but its sound is affected slightly by the "u" in "kunu" (vowel harmony).
