    My dad used to work in Subic back in the 80's and so we had access to this station. It was awesome especially Saturday mornings with all the cartoons! My classmates would always wonder how I knew the plots to most shows even before they got on local Philippine tv! ha! Aaaah... memories! Thanks FEN!

    Channels 14 (Subic) and 17 (Clark) were shut down in 1991 due to the eruption of Mount Pinatubo. For the Southern Broadcasting Network (SBN), the only way to bring back programmings from both stations was establish Channel 21 in Metro Manila. But Channel 34 (San Miguel) survived the shut down by handing over its governance to ABS-CBN in the next decade. DWFA (Bataan) and DWFE (Olongapo/Subic) have the same frequency of 1512 khz up to this day. DWRW-FM 95.1 (formerly Far East 95.1) is the only station that serves all of Central Luzon up to this day.

    I remember one sleepless night living in base housing at Clark. I got up, sat down in the living room to watch a Celtics game. Too late and I was just in time to watch the the FEN sign-off as they play the Philippines national anthem. Looked over to my right and some filipino had his face pressed up against window right by my head. I screamed like a little girl. I yelled "WHAT THE HELL". He says he's a neighborhood security guard and "was just was watching the game". Poddy security at its best

    After US troops left the Philippines and Clark Air Base was handed over to the government in 1991, Far East Network was closed down and its stations were sold to Filipino owners.
    Channel 34 in Bulacan became an ABS-CBN relay station for Channel 46 in Pampanga.

    @mac17601 FEN went off the air when US Forces left the country in 1992. They were on various channels depending on which US facility you were at. A revised Status Of Forces Agreement (after Mt. Pinatubo) between Richard Armitage (USA) and Raúl Manglapus (RP) was vetoed by the Philippine Senate and President Cory Aquino was forced to order the Americans to leave.

    Too bad AFRTS does not release some old shows on youtube or the internet for historical purposes. I had no idea FEN existed before now. I even fond one CPN clip from the Marshall islands. Now all we have is AFN, everything is syndicated live from the states with almost no local content. Even the weather is broadcasted through commercial breaks from the AFN weather center. I think AFN lost a lot of magic from the old FEN era.

    @exgipias In the 1970s, it was known as AFPN (American Forces Philippine Network). The station was the Det 1, 6204th Broadcasting Squadron. When I returned to the RP in 1984, the 6204th had been renamed as Det 5, AFPBS (Air Force Pacific Broadcasting Squadron, headquartered at Yokota AB, Japan. FEN Philippines on TV 14 had quite a somehow vague history and all of it was still shrouded in mystery, all we know is that AFRS (later AFRTS) first brought it on the air in 1954, months or a year after DZAQ TV 3 of ABS inaugurated as the first TV station in the country in 1953.

      US anthem lyrics:
      O say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
      What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
      Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
      O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
      And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
      Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
      O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
      O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
      Philippine anthem lyrics:
      Bayang magiliw,
      Perlas ng silanganan,
      Alab ng puso
      Sa dibdib mo'y buhay.
      Lupang hinirang,
      Duyan ka ng magiting,
      Sa manlulupig
      Di ka pasisiil.
      Sa dagat at bundok,
      Sa simoy at sa langit mong bughaw,
      May dilag ang tula
      At awit sa paglayang minamahal.
      Ang kislap ng watawat mo'y
      Tagumpay na nagniningning;
      Ang bituin at araw niya,
      Kailan pa ma'y di magdidilim.
      Lupa ng araw, ng luwalhati't pagsinta,
      Buhay ay langit sa piling mo;
      Aming ligaya na 'pag may mang-aapi,
      Ang mamatay nang dahil sa 'yo.

    Before SBN 21 provided Filipinos international entertainment, there was FEN Philippines on Channel 17 (Channel 50 in Metro Manila) during the 80s and early 90s.
    Beaming from the Clark Air Base in Subic, Zambales and managed by the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service, this TV station which originally catered to the American audiences stationed there has also provided the Filipinos with US entertainment, news and information albeit to only those who can received a clear signal from this TV Network. Sadly it went off the air during the Pinatubo eruption and it was finally put into rest when the American army and navy have to leave the Clark Air Base after the Philippine government didn't renew the Military Base Agreement in 1991.

      We never had this in Cebu but growing up in the 90s all networks aired American TV shows, sitcoms and movies regularly then it dwindled in the late 90s early 2000s with more local shows taking over.
