- Here's something you don't see every day (only because it happens late at night): a TV station sign-off!
This sign-off comes from WRC-TV 4, the NBC affiliate in Washington, D.C. It features scenic aerial footage of the nation's capital set to the national anthem, followed by the 1980s WRC-TV 4 logo, a few seconds of black, and a vintage-looking test pattern. Neat, huh?
Voiceover by Mac McGarry (longtime host of the television quiz show It's Academic on WRC-TV 4).

Can't believe it's taken this long for a WRC sign-off to show up
Mac MacGarry was better known as the longtime host of It's Academic!
Mac McGarry also hosted "In Our Town" and
was also the announcer of the NBC News bureau in Washington. These people were also staff announcers at Four-Stu Finley, Peter Hackes,Phil Gaines,Maurie Higdon,
Paul Anthony and Lee Dayton.
WRC had that same studio renovated recently...
I have always wanted to see a WRC-TV sign-off...especially voiced by the great Mac McGarry (RIP). And I must say, WRC's sister station, WNBC New York is rather weak when it comes to sign-offs, as it's just slides followed by the US Army National Anthem film. 'RC goes a step above with a video postcard of the Nation's Capitol. And then...the old school WRC-TV test pattern...well that just wraps it up nicely.
That pattern happened, in that form, to date to 1978 - before Tele-Measurements (which made that TP) altered the colors and grey background between the width and height circles.
Haven't seen it in ages.

The Proud N was still on their building at the time.
Also, did anyone notice how similar the backing music to the sign-off sounded to that on the signoffs of CBC's Winnipeg station, CBWT, in the mid-to-late 1980's?
