Well, actually this "contemporary worship" isn't even worship indeed. It is a true talent shown in these so-called new churches because the leadership is afraid of losing members, especially the youngest ones if they are not allowed to do what they want, which is an opportunity to show up somehow. "Contemporary worship" is not worship because it isn't even addressed to God, it's something to please themselves.

@finaldaylight3804 I am not a musician nor a church historian, so I could not give you a technical answer. Maybe one of my many brothers and sisters here could explain how that works. Many other psalms sang a capella in the Reformed churches do not follow the biblical psalms ipsis litteris, however they convey their core message, at the same time that the words are inserted in the metrics, melody lines etc... I imagine it is like writing a poem. I can see the message of the original Psalm 102 being properly delivered in this song. It touches my soul profoundly, especially in times when going through grief and sadness. What a wonderful reminder of the passing nature of this world, which dims in face of the eternal path we have ahead of us in Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior. To Him be the glory today and forever and ever. And ever. And ever more.
I’m baptist but I just read a book by rosaria butterfield and she talked of this reformed Presbyterian Church. The more she shared, the more I felt this was what I was looking for. I’ve never heard of this before. I want to by my first psalter through crown and covenant but I don’t know how to sing them. Surely I will feel God through this music. The songs Jesus sang. There are still songs I love to sing, such as How Great Thou Art, but they are few. Most songs today are too much music and not enough Spirit or Word. Maybe God will help me learn these songs and teach them to my children.
There is also a “book of psalms for worship” app where you can hear the tunes and see the words at the same time! I grew up in the RP church with this psalter (and exclusive psalmody) and it has been such a blessing in my life. I was actually at this conference and it’s so beautiful to hear all those brothers and sisters in Christ from all around the world praising the same God! These psalms have been written on my heart and I hope they will soon be in your’s and your children’s hearts! ❤️ (let me know if you need some psalm recommendations, I have lots of favorites ;) )
Anna Parnell yes! I’ll take any suggestions. I really like Psalms 30 and have been singing that one along with 23 and 25. It is so different from what I’ve been brought up with. I wonder if our music minister would include psalms in our church?

Praise God for his Psalms and the way we can communicate to him in such emotion and feeling through his Word. Awesome singing-the Free Church of Scotland released a completely new Psalmody in metre in 2005, FYI translated from the original text into rhyming enlgish. it too is fantastic and conveys excellently what the scripture says. I'm getting my Anglican church to use it!
This is absolutely beautiful! It's amazing how the historical singing acapella singing style for the Psalms of the Scots and Scots-Irish is similar to the traditional acapella singing of the Carpathian people of Eastern Europe.
That was haunting. I was once a member of the RPCNA in Colorado Springs and listening to this congregational singing of the Psalms tugged at my heart. Beautiful.
This is one of the most beautiful things I've seen. This reminds me of my grandmother, who was part of Dutch Reformed church. She's been gone from this earthly life for a long time now, but this video made me stop walking and just stand still. She would always sing the Psalms throughout the day.

The Lord took me from the fearful pit of sin and condemnation, which is the porch to hell and from wallowing in the miry clay of iniquity and degradation. The glorious triune God set my feet upon that sure rock which is Christ in His amazing counter imputation. He, as the Kinsman Redeemer, lovingly, became responsible for the consequences of my sin and set me free.
This was a Sabbath afternoon Psalm Sing. When we had a full worship service in the morning, the dress was much more "formal". BTW, this was not a trained choir. This is our denomination's quadrennial international family conference, and this was "just folks".
Don't say 'just'! In Christ Jesus we (who know Him) are a 'royal priesthood', part of God's family. That said, a session of praise at any time is good and right. What a God we have !

Mine is a hymns and psalms no-choir type of worship with a very reverent piano. I respect the E-P from reformed churches and am equally blessed by it. TH-cam isn't a place for a debate on E-P but I know the issues and respect your point of view. Thank you so much for posting this video.
This is wonderfull praise God! I'm also hooked on the Genevan Psalter I now have New Genevan Psalter imported from Canada from the Reformed Churches. Both are wonderful. I sing them at home because we don't sing psalms at my congregation though both our edifying however the more I study the issue I tend to lean Psalm exclusivity.
In France, protestants always sing psalms from the Genevan Psalter (psautier français ou huguenot) : music from XVIth Century, words in modern French (it is just the XVIth century texteadapted in modern French, not a very new text.
My church needs to leave the PCUSA for a different denomination. The PCUSA has departed from Biblical tenets and the real meaning of scripture in numerous ways. I pray we could join the RPCNA or the OPC.
Lovely harmonization. Good to hear congregational singing as it should be done - chin up (not down your shirt), singing for content. Better than some of the old metrical versions where the sense is sacrificed for rhyme. AMEN!
Psalm 102A from the book of psalms for worship. you can find the website by typing in psalter and putting an org right after that. :) Singing the Word of God is incomparably better than hymns (for the sake that it's God's Word meant for singing and Hymns are written by men. Obviously hymns are still good...but Psalms are just awesome. :)

@CincinnatusUSA I grew up in the RPCNA so I know where you're coming from. But unlike you, I NEVER smiled and reveled in the concept of such a thing as preordained eternity. I spent years in agony, searching and praying, because no matter how hard I tried and how many pastors I spoke to I knew in my heart that such a thing is simply incompatible with a loving God. I've heard all the arguments for it and they fall short. I imagine you now think that means I am preordained to burn in hell too.

this looks to be more like a retreat or conference than church service. i was raised presbyterian and we never sang like this, we had a psalter set to familiar hymn tunes but very rarely used it. (in fact i visited there recently and they have been removed from the pews) we just sang from common hymnbook w/ organ/piano.

When Jesus Christ our high priest leads the assembly of the saints in worship in heaven what do you think they sing? The only thing that bring honor and glory to our Lord. HIS OWN WORD! They're not Singing "mercy me" or other human inspired songs. So neither should we as God's people. Exclusive Psalmody
why is it so hard for an all powerful being to reveal himself and give us truth to a lost people and preserve it? Why do you hate God for being just and merciful? why do you accept mans word over your creators? I ask questions that God already answered: man is sinful and in willful rebellion to God, and the more he revealed himself the more we hated him, he came and died for our sin so those who believe would live, and those who did not would recieve justice for their sin.

The other question would then make sense that they had a pitch tune before the recording started? just guessing though. BTW this was very special and meditating on the words as the hearts sang out, was impacting.
@mimmar3891 It isn't a concept that there is preordained eternity, it isn't an argument either, it's what the Bible says. Acts 4 says that God predestined Jesus death for sinners: "for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, 28 to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place " (Acts 4:27-28).
Anglican chant is a lot harder to learn since it doesn't rhyme or have steady rhythm, when done well, it is my favorite, but the arranged psalms sung to hymn tunes is probably best for congregational singing :)

I attended an RPCNA church for about a year. And i like psalm singing, but why do people say "it is singing the psalms" when there are NO musical notes or arrangements IN the Psalms of the Bible? ONLY THE WORDS are "the psalms" and NOT the octaves or scale or timing or notes or melodies ... no bass or treble clef is in the bible book of Psalms?? meh .... all of those things were added later by men. not by God??? Personally i prefer Eastern Orthodox chants in terms of worshipful aesthetic beauty but i fail to find those in the bible either. :-\

This is actually how the Orthodox pray. They just chant the psalms- no instruments made by men, just voices made by God. It's very beautiful. I hope all Christians return to the ancient Orthodox faith.

This is a very nice song. The video has good quality as well. A small quibble: this isn't a Psalm. It's a Psalm paraphrase. Nothing wrong with that, per se, but it's to Psalm 102 what Luther's 'Mighty Fortress' is to Psalm 46. Does your church body sing the actual Psalms, meaning the verbatim Psalm text?

God's inspired Word does not say anything about the Protestant Church being founded by Christ. You can be in the Protestant or Catholic Churches and die an eternal death. The only way to live is through the ransomer, Jesus Christ. He died on the cross to ransom a people for himself.

Awesome singing-the Free Church of Scotland released a completely new Psalmody in metre in 2005, FYI translated from the original text into rhyming enlgish. it too is fantastic and conveys excellently what the scripture says. I'm getting my Anglican church to use it!
I'm a Fundamental Christian, not Reformed or Calvinist, but there is no doubt that these are my Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

This is absolutely beautiful! It's amazing how the historical singing acapella singing style for the Psalms of the Scots and Scots-Irish is similar to the traditional acapella singing of the Carpathian people of Eastern Europe.
That was haunting. I was once a member of the RPCNA in Colorado Springs and listening to this congregational singing of the Psalms tugged at my heart. Beautiful.
This is one of the most beautiful things I've seen. This reminds me of my grandmother, who was part of Dutch Reformed church. She's been gone from this earthly life for a long time now, but this video made me stop walking and just stand still. She would always sing the Psalms throughout the day.

This was a Sabbath afternoon Psalm Sing. When we had a full worship service in the morning, the dress was much more "formal". BTW, this was not a trained choir. This is our denomination's quadrennial international family conference, and this was "just folks".
Don't say 'just'! In Christ Jesus we (who know Him) are a 'royal priesthood', part of God's family. That said, a session of praise at any time is good and right. What a God we have !

Mine is a hymns and psalms no-choir type of worship with a very reverent piano. I respect the E-P from reformed churches and am equally blessed by it. TH-cam isn't a place for a debate on E-P but I know the issues and respect your point of view.

This is wonderfull praise God! I'm also hooked on the Genevan Psalter I now have New Genevan Psalter imported from Canada from the Reformed Churches. Both are wonderful. I sing them at home because we don't sing psalms at my congregation though both our edifying however the more I study the issue I tend to lean Psalm exclusivity.

In France, protestants always sing psalms from the Genevan Psalter (psautier français ou huguenot) : music from XVIth Century, words in modern French (it is just the XVIth century texteadapted in modern French, not a very new text.
My church needs to leave the PCUSA for a different denomination. The PCUSA has departed from Biblical tenets and the real meaning of scripture in numerous ways. I pray we could join the RPCNA or the OPC.

Lovely harmonization. Good to hear congregational singing as it should be done - chin up (not down your shirt), singing for content. Better than some of the old metrical versions where the sense is sacrificed for rhyme. AMEN!

Psalm 102A from the book of psalms for worship. you can find the website by typing in psalter and putting an org right after that. :) Singing the Word of God is incomparably better than hymns (for the sake that it's God's Word meant for singing and Hymns are written by men. Obviously hymns are still good...but Psalms are just awesome. :)

@CincinnatusUSA I grew up in the RPCNA so I know where you're coming from. But unlike you, I NEVER smiled and reveled in the concept of such a thing as preordained eternity. I spent years in agony, searching and praying, because no matter how hard I tried and how many pastors I spoke to I knew in my heart that such a thing is simply incompatible with a loving God. I've heard all the arguments for it and they fall short. I imagine you now think that means I am preordained to burn in hell too.

this looks to be more like a retreat or conference than church service. i was raised presbyterian and we never sang like this, we had a psalter set to familiar hymn tunes but very rarely used it. (in fact i visited there recently and they have been removed from the pews) we just sang from common hymnbook w/ organ/piano.
@mimmar3891 The Bible doesn't say that God loves everyone in the sense that modern Christians talk about. He only has a special saving love for His Elect.

why is it so hard for an all powerful being to reveal himself and give us truth to a lost people and preserve it? Why do you hate God for being just and merciful? why do you accept mans word over your creators? I ask questions that God already answered: man is sinful and in willful rebellion to God, and the more he revealed himself the more we hated him, he came and died for our sin so those who believe would live, and those who did not would recieve justice for their sin.

The other question would then make sense that they had a pitch tune before the recording started? just guessing though.

It isn't a concept that there is preordained eternity, it isn't an argument either, it's what the Bible says. Acts 4 says that God predestined Jesus death for sinners: "for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, 28 to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place
" (Acts 4:27-28).

Anglican chant is a lot harder to learn since it doesn't rhyme or have steady rhythm, when done well, it is my favorite, but the arranged psalms sung to hymn tunes is probably best for congregational singing :)

I attended an RPCNA church for about a year. And i like psalm singing, but why do people say "it is singing the psalms" when there are NO musical notes or arrangements IN the Psalms of the Bible? ONLY THE WORDS are "the psalms" and NOT the octaves or scale or timing or notes or melodies ... no bass or treble clef is in the bible book of Psalms?? meh .... all of those things were added later by men. not by God???
Personally i prefer Eastern Orthodox chants in terms of worshipful aesthetic beauty but i fail to find those in the bible either. :-\

This is actually how the Orthodox pray. They just chant the psalms- no instruments made by men, just voices made by God. It's very beautiful. I hope all Christians return to the ancient Orthodox faith.

Yet, it is pretty clear in the Bible that some people God foreordained to hell, and some to heaven. To go against that is to deny what the Bible says. Ultimately, God chooses us:

A small quibble: this isn't a Psalm. It's a Psalm paraphrase. Nothing wrong with that, per se, but it's to Psalm 102 what Luther's 'Mighty Fortress' is to Psalm 46. Does your church body sing the actual Psalms, meaning the verbatim Psalm text?

God's inspired Word does not say anything about the Protestant Church being founded by Christ. You can be in the Protestant or Catholic Churches and die an eternal death. The only way to live is through the ransomer, Jesus Christ. He died on the cross to ransom a people for himself.
