I mentioned in a recent VLOG that I took a week off for a #paintcation a couple weeks ago. Our house has almost 15' ceilings and we were painting the hallway with a staircase. It's not exactly easy to paint walls that high, even harder to do it on a staircase. So I came up with this ladder platform idea to use and it worked out great! You can buy something called the “stairmate” if you don’t want to DIY.
What I Used:
Reclaimed 4x4 pine
Reclaimed 2x4 pine
Deck Screws (Torx / Self-Tapping)
Drill (Hitachi) - amzn.to/1T5lsRH
Miter Saw (Hitachi 10") - amzn.to/1SMKrGB
Circular Saw (Hitachi) - amzn.to/23zGAC3
Wood Glue
Silicone Caulk
Clamps :)

I would want one more brace to form a triangle between the legs and the platform, but other than that, awesome. Using 4x4s left over from a fencing project. Seems be the natural destination of extra 4x4s
The silicone was brilliant. I just made mine and it kept it from slipping around.
Glad it worked out for you! 😃
Good idea, and good job implementing it. You scared me for a minute there... I thought you were going to rely on the glue to hold it without any screws. :)
haha, no way! Thanks for watching :-D
overbilt, i love it.
Great idea. I've been putting off decorating the hallway as I didn't have the correct ladder. Thanks for the idea of making a platform which I can easily do with the reclaimed wood in my garden. Now I can paint my hallway anytime!
Woohoo! Glad this helped :-D
This is exactly what I was looking for....thanks!
Awesome, glad you found it :-D
this is the first and only step platform I think would work safely on my steps! thanks for your creativity!
+BillM Martin glad to help! Be safe! 🤓
For extra safety I would put a lip on either side just in case the ladder would slip.
Good tip! Thanks :)
Great idea & thanks for sharing! I'm not sure how many times I've used an A frame ladder and 2x10 for make shift scaffolding, but this would work well in my house.
I don't like climbing ladders and that setup would make me a little too nervous :) thanks for watching!
Good build, would be handy for masking, cutting in, maintenance and cleaning too. Sure beats a paint roller duct taped to a broom handle.
haha, yeah 🤓 thanks for watching!
I added a cross piece in the front, about 10" high, so the legs wouldn't go anywhere. I also screwed in two corner triangles between the posts and platform for extra safety. I should have used the 5% cut and silicon ideas from the video. My platform was only 17" wide, so one person could be on the platform and another person could (carefully) get around them. With the 17" width, minus two 2x4 widths, that left a 10" space which I filled with 17" wide 1/2" plywood instead of old 2x4s. 3/4" OSB flooring would work great, too. Finally, I put a narrow strip of wood on the platform edge farthest from the tall wall for the ladder to lodge against (i.e. so ladder won't slide off the platform because I have a railing, not a short wall as in the video).
Looks heavier than hell..
thumbs up for the silicone idea ! will perfectly work not only for this project!
Thanks for checking it out! 🤓👍
What kind of clamps did you used And where you got them from they look cool
Ramiro Lucio those are just cheap Harbor Freight bar clamps... thanks for watching!
You sir are genius.
Well, I wouldn't go that far, but thanks 🤓👍
Had a mare trying to reach up to the stair well ceiling putting up plasterboard. Then I found this video. Got loads of scrap wood so will be building one of these. Cheers.
I hope you got yourself squared away! 🤓
@@LivefreeanddiyTv Yes, built one thanks and worked a treat.
@@vikingofengland that's awesome!
Love the silicone idea I am going to improve mine
You can buy a gadget for that called a stairmate
Neat, thanks for sharing... mine was faster and cheaper though 🤓👍
that will work!
it sure did :)
Staircase ladder platform
Yep 👍
Awesome
