By now you’ve probably heard the incredible buzz on one of Netflix’s newest shows: The Haunting of Hill House. The ten-episode series, based on Shirley Jackson’s iconic horror novel of the same name, was created, directed, and executive produced by Mike Flanagan, whose credits include Oculus, Gerald’s Game, and Ouija: Origin of Evil. The story explores a group of siblings who grew up as children in what would become the most famous haunted house in the country. Now adults, the family must come face to face with their past in a very ghostly way.
Shortly before the series premiered, I got to sit down with Henry Thomas, Victoria Pedretti and Kate Siegel for an exclusive video interview after seeing the first few episodes. They talked about getting to work with Mike Flanagan, how much they knew about the arc of the season before filming began, how the show is a family drama wrapped in the horror genre, how they shot the sixth episode (which was shot like a play with extremely long takes), and a lot more.
While there are a lot of great choices on Netflix right now, I absolutely recommend checking out The Haunting of Hill House. It’s extremely well done and absolutely worth your time. The series also stars Michiel Huisman, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Elizabeth Reaser, Carla Gugino, Timothy Hutton, Lulu Wilson, Mckenna Grace, Paxton Singleton, Violet McGraw, and Julian Hilliard.

The only show in which it is impossible to hate any character. But out of the entire Craine family Nelle deserved the most to have an happy ending.
@Truth Seeker I know but it makes it even more sad. She was the only who did not have any hidden agenda.
@Truth Seeker Steve was self centered, Shirley was control freak, Theo was a hypocrite when she used the royalty money for her phd, Luke manipulated Nelle into buying drugs from a dealer. So from this context Nelle was innocent and pure. That's how I see it, maybe I am wrong.

1. From what I understood, nothingness means you feel numb and blank.
2. That I have been questioning too.
3. It is Poppy Hill's Husband I think.
4. Maybe they had the same vision and they saw themselves telling all that to Olivia.
5. To a parent their child never grows old. I think the scene had more of symbolic meaning like no matter what to Hugh , Nelle will always be his baby girl.
6. It was house playing tricks on her mind. Only Olivia was not the part of hallucination.
@Truth Seeker Hahaha... Mike Flannigan is a genius . I wish the older cast have their younger counter parts for an interview simultaneously .
@Truth Seeker Can't wait for what season 2 has to offer. One of the underrated performance of the show was by Catherine Parker who played Poppy Hill. She played a pure psychotic ghost.

i think the kids were all good because they had one director for all 10 episodes, who also happened to be the editor, writer and cinematographer. Mike Flanagan just knows what he wants and how to get those performances

The entire casts are so beautiful, I can't stop looking at their faces and can't help but smile whenever they talk. God, I've never fell in love with an entire cast before.

"He takes these ideas we have about families and really explodes them with the concept of horror. By the time you're invested in the family and the ghosts start to turn up, you really feel for the characters." Exactly!
I love how genuinely excited the cast was to hear Frosty's thoughts on episode six. These people are all so down to earth and humble about this, and I love that.
This show was extremely emotional. I expected it to be scary but the complete and utter sadness was unexpected

I love how, towards the end of the interview, Henry Thomas made an effort to reassure the journalist by asking his opinion on the topic he wanted to talk about. Seemed like a conscious decision and considerate, instead of just thinking "well, that's it over, onto the next one"

Henry Thomas looks so much better with the beard.
Here's something I don't understand: Why did they hire a different actor (Timothy Hutton) to portray the older version of Hugh, when they could have used makeup to age Henry Thomas? Not that I didn't enjoy Hutton's performance. I thought it was very good and extremely moving. I just want to know what the reasoning was to hire the two different actors.
Also, Kate summed up the very reason why I love this series, with her response to the first question they were all asked. I love the fact that we, the viewers, become emotionally invested in what is happening to the characters. We come to love the Crain family, and because of that we react strongly to what is happening to them. Not just because of the, "scare factor," but because we've become attached to them and we truly feel horrible for them. I love horror stories that allow us to become emotionally invested.
I find it made it more realistic I honesty couldn’t even tell if it was actually him or not? It was confusing but they did an amazing job at selecting him

The interview was before the premier and Netflix only releases a handful of episodes to the press. I mean, you could've read the video description

@@rainbowstar9475 Someone else at Collider had been issued all the episodes for a proper review (prior to the show's premiere), while other members of the press were only issued a handful of episodes. This is pretty standard nowadays. Netflix did the same thing with the first two episodes of Stranger things, and only released the first six episodes of each season of Daredevil to the press for review.

A great thing this show does is set up the final night well. You know everyone was freaked out, paraormal activity may have been involved, etc, and the full story was executed greatly
The Hunting house is more than a tv show is a beautifull piece of art. Everything is beautifull the cast, the acting , the story , how it was directed. Just a tragic story portray in a perfect way
I was so confused at beginning if Tim Hutton was an actual transformation of young Hugh. Just because of the resemblance of the eyes, damn there so blue. I swear I spend at least three episodes wondering !!

You don’t know how much I loved this show it had got to be the best scary show that I have ever see. In my life it is such a connected story and I thought it was boring at first then I got interested when things came together it all made sense in the end and just yasss

I'm looking forward to seeing Nell, her character being more developed into season 2. If you're actually going to bring back Season 2 . I would like to see Nell as a warrior fighting ghost.
I really had a lot of compassion for her character. I wanted desperately for her sisters and brothers to really feel her pain and see she was reaching out for them to hear her.. I also love the story between her and her husband but it did have a lot of sadness.
But at the same time Nell was very strong and that's what makes the show amazing overall. Its all the characters, they were so well developed and a lot of us can relate to the ups and downs of childhood trauma and the Ghostly memories that follow us into our adulthood.
So yeah, looking forward to season 2. Come back Haunting of Hill House!

Stop saying "I really have to go"! Such a bad way to close an interview, it shows disrespect to your guests.
I agree the phrasing is a bit problematic, but it's not like Frosty has a choice here in going on for longer. These kinds of things are usually set up with dozens of interviewers from different networks and outlets lined up to interview them each for a few minutes. It's why every movie interview you see that is not taped live in front of an audience will have the same backgrounds.
Yeah, bit he did the same in the other interview with the cast and it sounds to me just rude. Maybe " thanks for you time, we have to go now" " I appreciate your time, thanks for this interview"
@@ginettealvarez4926 Oh I agree, the phrasing is problematic. A lot of other interviewers will use stuff like "That's all the time we have" etc. and that sounds much better in my opinion.
It is a good tv show, but if you've ever read the novel, it bears little resemblance.

@@billytotham3090 It's brilliant. Written in the 1950s. Some character names are the same, but the story is very different. House is the same, and the ghosts are characterized in a less overt way. It's very creepy, and actually very Goth.
There’s a lot of people like me who don’t like to read. We are more visual... it doesn’t bother me because I never read the novel. This show was brilliant
The movie The Haunting with Liam Neeson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Owen Wilson is closer to the novel.
Catherine plays Theo, Wilson plays Luke, and that brunette actress plays Nell.... but they’re not related in the book.
There was also a “welcome home Nell” theme in the novel as well... I forget exactly the context of it.
I don't get why they do these short ass interviews! If ur taking the time to sit down with these actors why not make the time and effort to do a long inrerview???!!!!!
Not Frosty's choice. These press interviews are set up with a couple dozen interviewers on the same day, and someone from PR is cycling through the interviewers every few minutes. It's why if you watch interviews of the same cast from other outlets they all have the same sets of actors and same backgrounds around them.
poor cast. all of them are gonna get asked the same questions... "u ever had a ghost experience in this life?"
