    😉👍Gen 8 is ok but nothing beats the trx4! I got a bit more steering by bending the front aluminum rod on mine but that's awesome the radio does add a bit more for sure! I have a Ko propo radio that I use a flysky module in for use for flysky 2.4 I wonder what my Ko pro can do it has loads of adjustments and stuff I may bind it up and give it a go!. Thanks for the test video.

      @@RCReviewChannel 😁👍 Your welcome, Man do the mod I did remove that hump on the bottom skid plate of the Gen 8, I just put any size thin steel skid across the bottom I just put up my test video after doing so it ran 100 times better! You will love the Gen 8 after doing so trust me👍 you can also use 4 little flat button top screws to hold it on but I liked the 100% flat method I went with and show because I did this many times on other RC's.

    I'm not sure if Redcat made a revision but I just received mine last Wednesday and I got 45.5" right turn and 49" left turn with the stock receiver and transmitter. I measured inside wheel to wheel just as you did. It sill has very touchy throttle.

    You keep talking about the turning radius and the steering degree angle compared to the TRX, have you considered if they are the exact same wheel base or not? This affects the turning radius! If the redcat has an even slightly longer wheelbase it will have a larger turning radius! Look into it please!

  • @KTMcaptain
    @KTMcaptain 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    2:15 you can see the difference between the trx4 steering and the redcat's ackermann steering. Since the outside wheel would trace a larger circle it doesn't turn in as much. This is suppose to negate some binding from the steering axle as both wheels turning circles do not intersect.
    I added ackermann geometry to my trx6 and it seems to help it turn sharper, but that's an anecdotal observation as I didn't measure the before and after performance.

      Just like crawling and off roading in real life, you'll see guys with high dollar rigs that cant make a line, then a guy in a stock 4runner will walk right up.
      People who thing more expensive is better are just compensating.

    I noticed when the wheels turned the axle was shifting off center is the panhard bar geometry messed up and not holding the axle

  • @alexsiniov

    Nice work as always, you became my favourite RC reviewer :) Buy the way, your advice will be very appreciated. I currently have Axial SCX10 fully upgraded with metal parts, i use it primarily for crawling/mud bashing, but due to 275mm wheelbase, it struggles a lot on steep hillclimbs. I was dreaming of buying TRX4 Defender with all the technology it offers and upgrading it for super scale trail/competition crawling, but since GEN 8 came out and almost at half price, what would you recommend to get now? only these 2 models are being considered, due to portal axles i love :) Thanks in advance!

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What does that mean? Wheelbase is too short for very steep climbs? Longer is better?

    • @alexsiniov
      @alexsiniov 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RCReviewChannel Sometimes seems so, it goes over obstacles better, but when climbing on steep hill even with 65% front weight distribution and low center of gravity it tips back. So do you recommend GEN 8 over TRX4 for crawling/trailing? 150$ difference in price can go straight to good brushless combo or brass portal covers set and good ammout of upgrades. I am asking you because it's not available worldwide yet and you already have good experience testing it :)

    Expo should have zero influence on geometry (just how soft the steering feels on center). Does the radio not have adjustable limits? Have you hooked the receiver/servo to a tester?

    • @RCReviewChannel

      Sorry, not steering expo but steering rate, or range. Completely maxed out on stock transmitter and cannot hit limits.

    0:40 is your tie rod bent or is that the camera lens. My tie rod came straight as an arrow and it bumps the diff cover, preventing me from getting full steering, even with a fully programmable transmitter. Cheers and thanks.

  • @DriftomaniacsRC

    Odd mine has no problem getting to that max 47 (not measured but looks 45+). Turning the steering D/R control to the Max seems to work for me. I find it very odd that redcat are going to sell a car stating it does one thing then it not be able to do so because of the transmitter issue? Seems very hard to believe any issue is just down to a transmitter.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree!! We have two Gen 8s and both behave the same way. Also we now of several folks that had a the same issue and fixed it with a radio swap. Are you using the stock servo horn?

    It is obvious that the trx4 has more percent in making a turn since it has the ability to not use the FWD when you want it with the touch of a button while the gen8 does not come with that system so much that to make a turn with the FDW all the turns are more comprehensive

    Doesn't the gen 8 have a longer wheelbase? That would result in less turning also.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      True but it is not very significant. The Gen 8 has a wheelbase .2 inches longer (12.5 vs. 12.3) than the TRX4. This results in only two more inches in steering diameter results.

      .2 is just under 1/4” , which is plenty to dramatically affect turning radius. Add 1/4” to the wheel base of the TRX if it’s not significant and see what happens

    • @dwaynebaker8733

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The difference is very small. We have a TRX4 Defender with an even longer wheelbase and its turning radius is much tighter than the Gen 8.

  • @adamsmith2400
    @adamsmith2400 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct!! We have that data and video somewhere. I believe it's 32 inch circle diameter instead of 38. We find locking/unlocking during technical maneuvers is not quite worth it since the TRX4 already has best in class turning radius.
