I love their banter. Notice how Prior got emotional the moment Belize begins to rub medicine in his back. It makes you realize how much AIDS patients were likely starved of affection and love.

Jeffrey Wright is one of my favorite actors. Completely deserved his Emmy for this. What an entrance. ❤️

Also, to everyone commenting on how stereotypical they're acting, there is the moment when Belize is like, "We're acting really politically incorrect right now," and Prior's like, "I'm sick, I get to be politically incorrect if it makes me feel better." The suggestion being that a certain amount of their current manner is to cheer each other up.

People who are saying they are acting stereotypical have obviously not seen the whole thing. They are doing this to cheer each other up, the way two friends joke about when life is bleak and sad. They aren't generally like that the rest of the series.

It's also likely younger people who are not alive during the height of the AIDS crisis. It was a moment when the national conversation insisted that gay men had earned a torturous death because of their so-called sin. Reveling in your culture when you're in this kind of danger is one of the most life-affirming things that you can do. Kushner knew that, and it's why he won the Pulitzer for this.

They are supposed to be stereotypical as subtitle of the series suggests: " A Gay Fantasia." This is how many expressed and many still express their feminine side. It should be okay for anyone of any gender to act the way the want as long as it does not harm another. This series won more awards than "Roots" and holds the all-time record for awards and nominations. It obviously is good and means a lot to a lot of people. I love it and I am comfortable with either role a person wishes to enact or take on. It's their life and they were born into the bodies, chemicals, and feelings they have. Go "Angels in America!!"

Despite their prolific acting talents & body of work, these two straight men would likely not even get considered for these roles in our current overly PC & sensitive world. Obviously a white guy shouldn’t be playing a Native American in a show/movie like was done in the past, nor should other analogous scenarios happen: e.g. a black guy playing a Japanese guy or vice versa. Should actors be able to play soldiers? It’s a slippery slope & we’ve gone too far. As far as straight & gay men, I think a good actor regardless of his sexual preferences, can easily play a straight, gay or bi roles. In these roles too, an actor can only be as good as the writing. Tony Kushner is thr gay playwright who wrote this so his material is going to be quite authentic & if he gives these actors a stamp of approval for their depictions & work, then I think that is about an ultimate thumbs up as you can get.
Again, Jeffrey Wright & Justin Kirk (I Believe thats the actors name IIRC) did a phenomenal job in their roles. It just goes to show that in today’s myopic & inflexible mode of thinking, these two straight actors might not have or rather probably wouldn’t have been cast as Prior or Belize being that these are gay roles. Maybe I’m wrong. It’s controversial. Besides the authenticity aspect of these roles, it also gets into murky areas like these roles being made more open & accessible to not only those who represent it well but also could be among the margibalized groups who deserve greater access & representation after being slowed or blocked by various barriers in the past.
Ah, whatever. Any way you cut it, it’s going to be difficult & offensive or unfair to someone. When you open the door for one person or one group often times, you closing it for another. We just have to try our best to be kind & stop trying to be so PC & righteous that we actually become sanctimonious & intolerant which is sadly happening far too often these fdays.🤷‍♂️🤷
