I was just admitted to the BA/BFA program with Lang and Parsons for this spring and I was so nervous about getting into parsons! Your portfolio is so well done and I felt like mine wasn’t good enough to submit to an art school. But I’m thankful I got in with a similar scholarship and maybe I’ll see you there this spring!
I was confused at first because I honestly thought the college would want actual sketches of clothes or some pieces of fashion that was created. I like that they cared about what you could actually come up with besides if you could draw or not. That's really encouraging to hear.
Also...the one that you said was the weakest piece was my favorite. I don't exactly know anything about art portfolios but that one really hit me hard. I love the girl with her hanbok- I love the concept in general. It was really cool to see as a Korean (even though I was adopted...but still)!

So did you submit any of that? Is it necessary to be good at pattern making and garment construction? (I know it's the base of fashion, I'm not good with stitching) How has the experience been so far? This was very helpful thank you :)

You could submit ANY kinds of artwork u want, and doesn’t have to be major specific. But I encourage you to show a variety of different materials because they like to see the experimenting and skills you have

i'm currently uploading pieces to slideroom and i have a couple of 3D pieces with multiple pictures from different angles, as well as a couple of series of works that i want to submit, did you do this by putting the photos in a PDF or by individually uploading each one directly into slideroom? thanks!

Art world is a different game lol. If you’re sure you want to pursue design school there is no use taking classes that don’t help you with your portfolio. Unless it’s AP art there’s no use
I think you did a fine job considering you're still in high school or just graduated, but I feel like from the perspective of someone who enjoys fashion and art as a hobby, your portfolio is decently well done but extremely unoriginal. I'm not at all surprised the jesus piece was the only one the representative liked since that's the only one that draws upon inspiration that is still trending within the past 2-3 years. If I were the representative and saw the suit/dress rip off that a handful of the most notable antifashion designers have used in their runway as 1/3 of your fashion design related portfolio, i would not have a good impression of you. But then again, maybe I'm just salty cus I settled for a fiscally safe career path that I'm not super passionate about as opposed to throwing something together and applying for parsons, risd, or fit.
Question: Say if your strengths are more in clothes making/designing and not so much is drawing, would it be smarter to base my portfolio concepts with fashion pieces? Is that allowed? pls help

I think you can do it with any DSLR! Just adjust the shutter speed to be longer than 1 second I believe~

You can submit all of this! They encourage you to submit anything creative you’ve done. Just make sure you photograph them well!

I’m not sure because you can only apply FAFSA if you green card older or citizenship. Other wise you can only go for the Merit scholarship.
