Sergei never leaps. He flies! His amplitude, plié, height, landing and the way he uses his upper body to stay in the air for yet another second, is just textbook perfect. Thank you Pam, yet one more time!
I am a great fan of Sergei Polunin. He is one of the most talented ballet dancers of this century. I also think that his journey in the world of Ballet makes him even more interesting than any other dancers because he stands out for so many reasons intrinsic to him... Also, he does not want to conform to what he does not like or see necessary (even after a good try!). I do really like this aspect of his personality, a strong young man, who is not going to be pushed to accept whatever which disagrees with his vision or aspirations. Superb. I adore him!
I saw him in Milan with Osipova in 2015, I think their first exhibition toogether. It was a dream. My daughter and I met him after the ballet and he was very kind and available for photos and authographs. He gave his best on the stage.

I wish we could see him in the states. We saw Mikhail Baryshnivkov (sp?) at the theater in Princeton, near where I live. That was an honor. But I don't know if I could breathe watching Sergei!

You’ve knocked it out of the park....Again! Ive had a thought (imagine that!) about why Polunin is so exceptional (other than his very obvious abilities). Ive been studying Indian Classical dance forms thru YT, & I believe they are, together with ballet, the most difficult to learn & perform. They are also the most beautiful! A critical component of the various styles in Indian classical dance (there are 8), is expression. The dancing itself is highly formal & facial expression very codified, as are all the steps, hand gestures, etc. This is because the dance is ancient, always telling a story in which the dancer plays all the parts, & these are mostly stories about the divine. Ok...getting long winded here. SP has that very quality of expression. What’s going on on his face when he dances is an integral part of his performance, particularly when he’s not dancing the formal ballet guy roles. And in both forms of dance, dancers are using old, or ancient, forms to tell new, contemporary stories. For me, that’s very exciting, & I sure look forward to more storytelling thru movement.
