19:31 I just adore this piece. It is the closest Luke had ever gone to the dark side. You can see the emotion in his saber swings. Embracing his anger like his father had done. I like to pretend that the vocals are the Jedi and Sith spirits chanting at each other trying to determine the outcome of the duel, with the Sith emerging victorious at the end when Luke cuts off Vader's hand.
You know the choir could represent Palpatine. It’s strong, certain and unwavering until the decisive moment at 23:02 when he too succumbs to blind frustration at not being able to turn Luke and its voice becomes unfocused as Vader hurls him over the edge and is silenced. Have been thinking that being emotionally compromised by one’s own ego can make a user temporarily disconnected from awareness within the force, the same reason Vader was caught off guard by Han at the Battle of Yavin (feeling frustrated at himself for not getting a lock on Luke’s X-Wing).
28:40 - taken from ‘Rescue from Cloud City’ in the film, then merged with ‘The Main Reactor’ from this film score. Works great though. The film version as you’ve presented it here is the one I’ve been looking for for ages.
There’s a lot of similar themes and passages he likes to reuse and remix just slightly. It’s why you can listen to almost any of his scores and identify them as his. He has a signature
In two scenes in The Rise of Skywalker I noticed there's short snippets of Superman's theme. One of them is when you see the ships head down to the navigation tower
James Horner also mixed in leitmotifs from Wrath of Khan into his later scores, I think all composers do this to a degree especially if a producer wants a scene to sound like that earlier work, their creative freedom can be limited to some extent.
"Well, how can they be jamming us if they don't know... that we're coming." "Break off the attack! The shield is still up!" "I got no reading, you sure?" "Pull up! All craft pull up!"
Yes, that sequence is my favorite too - as Lando & Wedge reach the reactor room with TIEs in pursuit, then cut loose with missiles, causing the reactor to topple.

Finally found the film version of Battle of Endor III
Just about all of the music from the Battle Of Endor is criminally underrated, especially the final duel soundtrack.
I love the into the Death Star moment and the final duel part of the soundtrack even more
It’s why ROTJ is my personal favorite movie. No one can convince me otherwise. It’s John Williams at his very best and most creative.
Uderrated?Ive seen countless of people considering it the most emotional peace of music Williams ever wrote.
@sup - I fully agree. Well said.

13:20 Sounds similar to the chase theme from Last Crusade
I wouldn’t be surprised if John Williams ever took inspiration from his own work
There’s a lot of similar themes and passages he likes to reuse and remix just slightly. It’s why you can listen to almost any of his scores and identify them as his. He has a signature
Since the last crusade came out 7 years after ROTJ, I think John Williams did take inspiration.
