The director, Martin Berger, was once the director of the cathedral choir in würzburg, germany. It is assumed that this song revolves about one of the bridges in würzburg, as its located next to the main river and has a castle (for the king). way back when i was new to the würzburg choir, i barely knew berger as the director, but it makes me happy to see that he took traditional songs like this one to his new job :D
How wonderfull you did this....amazing arrangement and perfect pronouncation. This song is one of the most touching german folk songs....it is about dying ....in a light and happy way...as an easy dance. You caught this feeling .... 🦋
Actually, it most certainly is *not* about death but instead a faint memory of a medieval Tanzwut (mass hysteria that consists of dancing until you drop of exhaustion). There were many historical events of this kind in the middle ages and one may have taken place at a stone bridge over the Main River. Compare Sûr le Pont d'Avignon where, likewise, all sorts of people dance at a (stone) bridge.
@@elektra121 this Dance in the Song is not a Dance of the living, it was celebrated on Bridges, like in Frankfurt ("...über den Main") as a Dance of the Dead, but in a happy and emphatic way, with "Tanzwut", like the Living do....to create a more hopefull view of life's end 🙃
@@1964Marido Yes, i have allways heard, this song is a beautiful and light song about the death. The death is a bridge, and over this bridge everybody will go, poor and rich, even the king. Many people tried to destroy the bridge, but they couldn't do it, because they had to dance as well over the bridge and they loved it. Sorry for my bad english.
An amazing arrangement, a marvellous performance, superb German pronounciation! Thank you for this wonderful song! Probably you could mention the composer of this great arrangement?
It is by Christian M. Heiß, a contemporary composer based in a little German city where he is master of the chapels in the local cathedral. The music can be ordered at möseler verlag.
Christian Heiß has been appointed as the new conductor for the Regensburger Domspatzen, the boys' choir of Regensburg Cathedral with more than 1,000 years of tradition.
@@steviewunder9909 Actually the composition is from Felicitas Kukuck: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felicitas_Kukuck . The arrangement for mixed choir however is from Christian M. Heiß. Cui honorem, honorem.

Sublime. Your repertoire is so broad and varied. The arrangements are great, and you perform each number so well. I often share your videos with family and friends. This one touches a special chord for me as I spent a year in Germany a long time ago. My German is not as good as it once was, but I still retain enough to concur with the other commenters on how good your German pronunciation is.
the director himself is a german and once directed the würzburger domsingknaben choir in würzburg (the city which the song probalby revolves around). my best guess is, he taught the singers the correct pronounciation.

Es ist doch wohl nicht so schwer zu verstehen, dass es sich hier um ein Totentanzlied handelt.
