  • Hello and welcome to The Everything is Black and White Podcast.
It's time for another episode of Let's Talk About - this week Andrew and John focus on Newcastle United right wing.
What does the future hold for the likes of Miguel Almiron, Jacob Murphy and Yankuba Minteh - and just who are the club targeting to bring in for that position...
John makes a passionate plea to Michael Olise - who United are tracking in what would be the deal of the summer.

I think with ffp, make it a level playing field. All teams should be allowed to spend the same amount as the highest generated club that season, i.e., man city, I.e. 400-500 million so everyone can spend the same amount of money, but if club owners can't spend that amount of money, then so be it at least clubs have the chance to spend that amount of money

If they can I would sell Trippier, Almiron and Wilson. That should ease the Fair Play issues and allow us to buy about £150m of replacements because of the way the gearing works.

If I was confident that we'll eventually be able to catch up to teams like Citeh, Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal etc in terms of financial might, which almost always dictates sucesss and trophy wins, then I'd have more sympathy for the moral argument around the FFP rules, fair market sponsorship etc. The fact is though that football is already more or less a closed shop for the so called top six, with a few notable abberations such as Leicester winning the PL. At least if Man City win their case there is a small chance that your club gets taken over by owners with deep pockets and business connections.

Football has always been dominated by wealthy clubs. The real issue is that those clubs who have been traditionally wealthy do not like change and new wealth. It threatens their monopoly. City managed to develop before the protectionist rules were put in place. I support their legal approach which may show that the EPL are operating unlawfully.

The bitter truth is we have lost a season in our development because we didn't perform when we should have to ensure European football. Olise will not go to Newcastle - I'm no expert but played football and footballers now want wages and trophies. Newcastle can't at the moment offer either.

This seems to be be the opposite of what FFP was designed to protect against.
