several years ago a friend called me at work from a charity luncheon & said, “Guess who I’m sitting with?”
“I give up, who?”
“Kurtwood Smith!”
“Red Forman Kurtwood Smith?”
“Yeah! That’s him!”
“Dude, you’re on crack.”
“No, seriously! Here, I’ll put him on the phone”
(phone handling noises…”Can you say hi to my friend?” “Sure, what’s his name?” “It’s Eric.” “…perfect”)
“Hello?”
“Eric, you dumbass…get back to work!”
Like I was going to get any work done after that. Wotta guy.
Well that's just awesome
😂💀
I read it in his voice lol
@@j_bird27 Im glad I wasnt the only one!!
@@j_bird27 WE ALL DID.
"Piece of crap? That's a Vista Cruiser! You could literally .... cruuuuuise the vistas." 😂
I love it that they always called it the Vista cruiser, not the station wagon, not the car, the Vista cruiser.
That was grandfather and his Caravan. He would try to pile as many people to prove his point.
Wow….. that really shot outta there!
Haha yessssss.
He's about old enough now he looks like himself in the vision of Eric's future in episode 10 of season 4.
"Look at me... I'm whip cream head! 🍦"
'I can see my lips' lol
I am pretty sure Kurtwood studied my dad for the character of Red.
Nah, that was my Dad.
My dad died when i was 15 so red foreman raised me the rest of the way because of how much like my dad he was 😂
Well Kurtwood did say he based Red on his stepfather. Apparently his stepdad is like Red in a way.
It was the generation. I’m pretty sure he was playing his dad. That generation was forged in fire.
I try to channel my inner Red Foreman at times when I'm counseling my children.
Kurtwood smiths great line ever is..."bitches leave"
If ya know ya know lol
"Sayonara RoboCop!"
Absolutely unforgettable.
“I’d buy that for a dollar”!
Would love to see them work that into that 90s show - the guys in the group are dressed like witches for Halloween in order to be goofy as Hell, get on Red’s nerves…
Can you fly, Bobby?
I'll always remember his classic line from Robocop...."can you fly, Bobby?" He was such a great villain.
That was an improvised line, from what I hear.
I'm 50 and I forgot that line. I was like near 16 years old or was then at 16 years old when I heard that one. Red/Curt is a legend!
@@CharlesBukowski-m1o I quote that line pretty often, but sadly most don't remember anymore.
I loved Kurtwood in That '70s Show.
An actor’s career that includes roles such as Clarence Boddiker *and* Red Forman? Kurtwood just made those characters so memorable.
@@woozertoo Agreed
He made the show for me, it wouldn’t be nearly as good without him there and his chemistry with everyone.
He was so much like the dads I knew back then; they all nailed it.
Perfect casting. Kurtwood Smith is from Wisconsin so it gave it an authenticity it just wouldn't have had. Grew up in northern Wisconsin and theres a lot of Red Foremans. Charecter felt so real.
The entire cast was Brilliant Casting :-D and writing too!
Ashton like 'I don't wanna end up on some FBI list man' 😂
And now they're married lol
Kurtwood Smith is such a living legend. Red Foreman is iconic and such a great character, and let's not forget that Kurtwood delivered (maybe the stupidest, but) the greatest line in a scene ever put to film; "Bitches leave." - Clarence Boddicker, RoboCop 1987
That 70's Show was just pure comedy gold. the perfect storm of casting, writing and timing. Also, this show helped me get through some REALLY rough times, personally.
It helped Danny Masterson also
Clarence Boddicker...legend
Definitely!
Damn right…
“Well give the man a hand!”
Can you fly Bobby?
I’ll buy that for a dollar!
What is this shiiiiiiii!?!?!?!?
Rich's celebrity interview have been the best lately.
Kurtwood is a legend
I went to high school with one of the creators of the show Bonnie Turner. She was always funny in high school and in plays. She would have been one terrific comedy actress, but was even better writing comedy. Prior to That 70’s Show, her and her husband Terry were writers at Saturday Night Live where they wrote some iconic sketches. Two very talented writers.
They've made some of my favorite shows. 3rd Rock from the Sun was hysterical.
"You're about to read a book my foot wrote." and "All fear Whipped Cream Head!" are absolutely classic lines.
"The reason that bad things happen to you, is because you're a dumbass."
When Red said that line I knew this show would be a hit.
It's a crying shame Kurtwood Smith never received and Emmy for his work on that 70's show. He was hilarious.
The show was basically perfect the first 4 seasons.
Agreed the season when Topher Grace left and they had to replace him with some guy from SNL was the Nail in the Coffin!!!
@@renesandoval1454 It's actually not a guy from SNL. It's a guy from SNL's younger brother.
"Can you fly Bobby?"
"Can you fly Ashton?"
Yes! If I didn't see this in th first couple finger scrolls, then I was gonna post it
One of my all-time favorite sitcoms
Really!? That's unbelievable!!!
Went to a taping of That 70’s Show in the third season to be one of the live studio members. Insanely cool experience that felt so surreal to be there in person. They shot every scene twice. Ashton’s entrance made everyone lose their minds. Kurtwood and Tommy Chong came up to the area we were sitting and talked with everyone many times. Tommy signed some Zig Zag papers. I still have the papers. They handed out autographed scripts to the audience members that laughed the most and best. I’ll never forget being there. Only show I ever went to see live like that. Kurtwood and Tommy will always remembered fondly. Good dudes.
Kurtwood Smith on that 70’s show and Stacey Keach on Titus always reminded me of my dad. They both played such no nonsense fathers in the shows.
Kurt has aged extremely well.
Loved that 70's show one of my favorites of all time🔥
“Guns-guns-guns!”
Tigers are playin'... TO-NIGHT!
@@flyprdu"I never miss a game"
@@jasonmohning1708”Just kidding”
Strike up a deal..... tonight.
Funniest scene ever is red and kelso in the garage. Kelso explaining why he needs the saw because eric threw a rabbit up a tree.😂😂
seems like a real down to earth guy! great character actor!
Red Foreman is an American Treasure! Love him
Can you fly,Bobby? One of your biggest fans sir. If you ever see this, thank you for becoming an actor and making this once poor boy's childhood a little bit better❤
I watched that 90s show for Red and Kitty. Ive come to like them more than either sets of teens.
He looks great for 81
Red ruled that show. The only character not in fear of him was Kitty.
One of My Favorite TV Dads.
I STILL use my favorite Red Foreman line when I’m confronted with a plate of veggies: “That’s not food…that’s what food EATS!”
Between Robocop and 70s Show, Kurtwood Smith just casually dropped a pair of inimitable performances for the ages. Fantastic!
You know, there's some actor's that are in countless movies and television shows and nobody recognizes them years later. Kurtwood Smith only had to star in one role to be immortalized forever, he's an amazing actor.
My favourite tv dad of all time. Legend.
I despise sitcoms but that 70s show has one of the greatest pilots ever made. I knew i was gonna love that show about 2 mins in
I like sitcoms, but when they get older most of them are really hard to watch the first few seasons. That 70's Show is the only one that can still easily hold up from the very first episode on.
@@jeremyc9593 anything with a laugh track is drivel to me but i enjoy the first 4 season or so of 70s show 👍🏻👍🏻
Holy moly. Dude's 80.
My favorite character!
I couldn't imagine a version of That 70's Show, where Kurtwood Smith wasn't Red, and Debra Jo Rupp as Kitty.
❤ I miss That 70's Show and Kirkwood was the Best Dad Ever on that show!!! He was gruff, yet He had a heart ❤️ It Really Reminded Me of My Own Dad, who passed away in 1995❤
took awhile for me to stop thinking of his robocop villian part but he pulled it off flawlessly
I was an extra on Last of the Dogman with KWS (1995). I was picked for a small scene with him. Lots of fun. He got me in the A Team (actors & crew) tent for lunch ((amazing food (Reg. Extras got a sandwich)). KWS is a fine gentleman. A great day! I felt like a working actor for about 8 hours.
That 70's Show wouldn't have been nearly as good without Kurtwood and Debra Jo
Probably my favorite character on the show
Is Red Forman one of the top-10 TV dads of all time? No.
Hes top-3, easy. He's my #1.
It's absolutely one of my favorite shows ever. I actually put it on while I'm driving. I've seen the episode so many times that I don't have to watch them, I listen to them the same way you listen to old time radio shows. I love it.
Trying to think of all time great TV dads.
Archie Bunker
Tim the tool man
Al - married with children
Fred Sanford
Danny Tanner (not really a fan of his character).
Etc
Sounds like a debate a talk radio show would milk out for a whole day
@@Ka_Gg Fresh Prince of bell air dad gotta be on there.
@@nathanbrandon1304 oh yeah, just trying to think off top of my head. I didn't watch FP much but everyone loves the dad on there.
I feel like his voice was the inspiration for Chief Wiggum in The Simpsons. "Weeeeeeeaah"
My friends and I were instant fans of That 70s Show. Had a great run until the end
Red Foreman was my second dad growing up
Loved the show.. almost perfect
Does anyone else feel motivated after watching this video?
Working actor, never phones it in.
He wasn't that 70s show man when he did robocop.
70's was a Killer of a Sitcom..😛👍🏻👍🏻
Nothing has even come close to ot
It's funny to sit back and look at all of the great roles Smith has portrayed over the years... RoboCop and Dead Poet's Society are two of the more prominent movie roles that come to mind.
70's dads rule!
Nothing like an interviewer sitting there with his arms crossed half the time, basics man, basics
One of the best endings ever. Last season wasn't good but they wrapped up the show really well. Unlike how I met your mother...
I loved him in Robocop.
My father is a combination of Red Foreman and Frank Barone from Everybody Loves Raymond…
I first remember him playing Clarence Boddicker in Robocop - what an excellent bad guy he was. 👍
He will be 81 July 3th. He is still in good spirits.
This man is awesome, a fantastic talent.
As much as we all love that 70's show, I'll always remember him the most, for that line Robocop.
*Enters a mans house with a gun*
"Bitches Leave"
*prostitutes leave*
He was great in Robocop
I knew the show would be a hit the minute I saw Donna.
Can you fly, Bobby?
Red is my all time favourite character on that show. You know it was a going to be a good episode everytime Eric got called a dumba$$.
can we talk about how Kurtwood is a sick name?
Pleasantly surprised he's still alive. For some reason I'd thought he died many years ago.
You can literally cruise the vistas
“Give the man a hand!”
those metal chairs are really fancy...
Red and Al Bundy, 2 legends.
Red!
"Can you fly, Bobby?" EDIT: Someone already beat me to it. *sigh* How about "Sayonara, Robocop!"
Between RoboCop and Dead Poets Society this guy scared the crap out of me in the 80's
He was great on House with Dave Mathews
Chuck Norris as a regular in a sitcom!? That'd tank faster than That 80's Show.
“Hey you! No screwin’ around!” -Kurtwood Smith
YOUNGER ACTOR: “I thought that guy was one of the older actors, not the producer…”
The 90's show is good, that 70's show was great.
When does the Tom Landry biopic come out lols
Rich is slowly turning into Bruno Sammartino
Much better as Clarence Bodiker in Robocop lol
The legendary Red!
did Peter Weller ever cameo on That 70s Show
Red Forman is one of the most ironic dads of all time.
The show dropped at the best time for people that were teenagers in the 70's. The Foreman's house all decked in 70's regalia. The music. The marijuana. Tommy Chong. Everything just clicked!
Tigers are playing tonight.
I never miss a game.
You act in many movies and shows for most of your life and then your biggest role is being remembered as the dad calling his son a dumbass almost every episode.
Little known fact - Chuck Norris is up for Every role. If he shows up, he gets the part.
Danny Masterson is exactly where he belongs
Most of the principal cast of that show (the "teenagers" anyway) turned out to be dirtbags/enablers of dirtbags, kind of makes me glad I was never a fan of that show.
Free Danny

Chuck Yeager makes Chuck Norris look like Chuck Schumer.
The part he just comming down the basement and see everyone and says, omg it's 100 morons in my basement
Notice how he correctly pronounces "New Orleans". Not New Orleeeeens.
Interesting choice having anyone but Topher Grace from That 70s Show on your own show, Rich.
Far as I’m concerned everyone in front of this camera condones Danny Masterson’s actions.
"It's great to get a call from Tom Werner," as opposed to getting a call from Time Warner.
After all these years the only thing I see when I look at this dude is Clarence Boddicker.
Book him!
What’s the charge?
He’s a cop killer!
Ill buy that for a dollar!
